The journal an effort to provide forums for academicians and researchers who are interested in the discussion of current and future issues on Islamic studies. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the political dynamics in the formation of Islamic family law in Indonesia through the perspective of the sociology of Islamic law. The study focuses on how the interaction between the state, religious scholars, and society shapes the character of family law, adapting it to social change and the values of modernity. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical library research method. Data were obtained from various scientific literature, laws and regulations, and official documents related to Islamic family law. The analysis was conducted using content analysis and thematic analysis techniques to identify ideological patterns, power relations, and political influences in the formation of Islamic law. The results show that Islamic family law in Indonesia is the result of political negotiations between conservative and reformist groups, in which the state acts as a mediator between religious authority and the demands of modernity. The role of religious scholars and religious organizations is ambivalent, serving as both guardians of morality and tools of political legitimacy. Furthermore, women's involvement remains symbolic, and the legislative process is often influenced by electoral interests and the politicization of religious identity. This study confirms that Islamic family law is not merely a normative product but also an arena of complex social and political interactions. The implication is that the renewal of Islamic family law must be directed towards a participatory, inclusive, and socially just paradigm to align with the principles of maqāṣid al-shari‘ah and the needs of modern society.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the rapid technological advancements of the modern era and their significant implications for socio-religious reality. The mediatization of religion shows that Islamic messages are now widely disseminated through social media. However, this dynamic has also led to fragmentation in religious understanding and authority. Often, hadiths are disseminated on social media to strengthen the position of certain groups in the social, political, or religious spheres. This study focuses on the dissemination of hadiths through social media, using the Instagram account @Kajianislam as a case study. The study employs a qualitative approach with a virtual ethnographic focus and is based on Teun A. van Dijk's critical discourse analysis theory for data analysis. The study's results show ideological construction in the presentation of hadiths on this account. First, text and visual elements are strategically used to reinforce the manhaj salaf ideological message. Second, the choice of diction and narrative in each post creates an understanding that aligns with the values of Manhaj Salaf. Third, the content produced on this account demonstrates an attempt to maintain group identity while instilling Islamic interpretations consistent with the promoted ideology. Thus, disseminating hadith on social media functions not only as a means of da'wah but also as a discursive practice that reproduces religious ideologies in the digital space.

Abstract

This study explores tahnik and aqiqah as expressions of fulfilling children's rights within the framework of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) and Islamic education. Both are classified as sunnah muakkadah practices that hold not only ritual significance but also deep spiritual, social, and pedagogical values. The aim is to analyze how these practices function as early educational media to instill monotheism, compassion, and moral responsibility from birth. This research employs a library-based approach with thematic analysis of classical and contemporary sources. Findings indicate that tahnik serves as the child’s first spiritual education, introducing faith and parental affection, while aqiqah embodies gratitude, social care, and character formation. The integration of fiqh and tarbiyah Islamiyah highlights that fulfilling children’s rights in Islam begins at birth through spiritually and educationally meaningful practices. The study underscores the importance of revitalizing the meaning of tahnik and aqiqah beyond tradition, as integral instruments for nurturing morality and spirituality in Muslim families.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menelaah konsep yang terkandung dalam pendidikan Islam berdasarkan QS. An-Nisa 59, QS. An-Nur 54, dan QS. Muhammad 33, serta relevansinya terhadap pengembangan karakter moral dan spiritual peserta didik. Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan studi pustaka untuk memahami makna ayat-ayat tersebut dan menerapkannya dalam praktik pendidikan Islam kontemporer. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa kepatuhan kepada Allah, Rasul, dan ulil amri (pemegang otoritas) bersifat bersyarat, berlaku hanya jika perintah sesuai dengan syariat dan tidak bertentangan dengan ajaran Islam. Pendidikan Islam tidak hanya mengembangkan aspek intelektual, tetapi juga membentuk dimensi moral, spiritual, dan sosial yang berlandaskan nilai-nilai wahyu. Penelitian ini menegaskan urgensi penguatan pendidikan karakter berbasis nilai Islam untuk menghadapi tantangan global tanpa kehilangan identitas keislaman. Selain itu, keberadaan fondasi menjadi penting bagi kedamaian sosial dan pengembangan individu Muslim secara utuh. Kajian ini berkontribusi pada pengembangan model pendidikan Islam yang komprehensif dan kontekstual di Indonesia, mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai normatif agama dengan strategi pedagogis yang efektif untuk melahirkan generasi beriman, berakhlak mulia, dan mampu menghadapi dinamika zaman dengan kesadaran spiritual dan moral yang kuat.

Abstract

AbstrakArtikel ini mengkaji peran agama sebagai kebutuhan fundamental manusia dalam masyarakat yang majemuk, berdasarkan tafsir QS. Al-Hujurat [49]:13. Ayat tersebut menegaskan bahwa keberagaman suku dan bangsa merupakan kehendak Tuhan untuk mendorong saling pengakuan dan bukan perpecahan. Dengan menggunakan metode kajian pustaka, artikel ini menganalisis bagaimana agama berfungsi sebagai kebutuhan manusia dalam masyarakat yang majemuk. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa agama dapat memenuhi kebutuhan manusia secara holistik apabila dipahami secara inklusif dan substantif. Dengan menjadikan ketakwaan sebagai tolok ukur utama, ayat ini mendorong terciptanya masyarakat yang adil, rukun, dan saling menghormati. Integrasi teks-teks agama dengan teori-teori kebutuhan manusia modern dapat menjadi solusi untuk membangun masyarakat yang damai dan beradab, sekaligus mengatasi permasalahan identitas dan disintegrasi dalam masyarakat yang majemuk.Kata Kunci : Agama, Kebutuhan Manusia, Masyarakat Pluralistik.

Abstract

This study examines the dialectical relationship between the normativity of revelation and social reality in the Islamic legal thought of Munawir Sjadzali. Islamic law is not merely a normative-legal system derived textually from the Qur’an and Sunnah, but also an ethical framework that must be continuously interpreted in response to changing social conditions. Using a qualitative library research approach, this study critically analyzes Munawir Sjadzali’s major works to explore his epistemological framework, methodology of contextual ijtihad, and his contribution to the reactualization of Islamic law in modern Indonesia. The findings demonstrate that Munawir Sjadzali conceptualizes revelation as a source of moral objectives rather than rigid legal formulations, while social reality functions as the arena for the actualization of these objectives. His approach challenges legalistic and textualist paradigms that tend to absolutize historical formulations of fiqh without considering socio-historical transformations. Through his reinterpretation of issues such as Islamic inheritance law and banking interest, Munawir articulates a model of substantive justice grounded in maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah. However, this study also reveals critical tensions within his approach, particularly regarding methodological boundaries that prevent excessive relativism in legal interpretation. Overall, Munawir Sjadzali’s thought represents a significant intellectual contribution to the development of Islamic law as a dynamic, contextual, and justice-oriented system, offering a viable framework for reconciling divine normativity with the complexities of contemporary social life.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the dynamics of contemporary Islamic family law in Indonesia, with a focus on the historical evolution of the Religious Courts (PA), the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI), and reforms such as Law Number 16 of 2019 concerning the age of marriage. The study also identifies the driving factors for social change renewal, the diversity of schools of thought, reformist thought (Muhammad Abduh, Munawir Syadzali), globalization, and human rights commitments (CEDAW, KKG), as well as challenges such as disparities in judicial decisions and textualist resistance. The research method is qualitative with a normative juridical approach and literature study, analyzing secondary data from classical/contemporary Islamic legal literature, regulations, court decisions, and fatwas of scholars through content analysis and deductive-inductive reasoning techniques. The results of the study show the evolution of Islamic family law from the ratification of the PA (Law 14/1970) to the KHI (Presidential Instruction 1/1991) and the reforms of the Reformasi era, which adopted takhayyur-talfiq for legal unification amidst the diversity of schools of thought. Reform faces obstacles such as different judges with different sentences, the failure of the Compilation of Islamic Law (CLDKHI), and conservative resistance, although breakthroughs such as raising the marriage age reflect the adaptation of the maqasid of sharia to modern issues (online unregistered marriages, digital domestic violence). Practical implications include recommendations for legislators, religious court judges, and the Religious Affairs Agency (Badilag) to harmonize sharia and human rights through maqasid-based training, community education, and contextual ijtihad to achieve gender justice and family protection.

Abstract

The increasing number of divorce cases in Indonesia, particularly due to the failure to fulfill alimony obligations, indicates structural problems in the practice of Islamic family law and its implementation in the Religious Court. The lack of clarity regarding the normative and operational boundaries of fair and proportional alimony often triggers domestic conflicts that lead to divorce. This study aims to analyze the limits of alimony obligations in divorce cases in the Religious Court of Pekanbaru City and assess its role as a preventive instrument for divorce. The study uses a qualitative approach with a juridical-empirical method combined with normative-doctrinal analysis. Data was obtained through a study of divorce decisions from 2019 to 2023 and in-depth interviews with judges and court officials. The analysis was conducted descriptively and analytically using the perspectives of family law protection, gender justice, and maqasid al-syari'ah. The results of the study show that the significant increase in divorce lawsuits is influenced by the non-fulfillment of financial support, both absolutely and relatively, which is exacerbated by the absence of clear standards for adequate financial support in judicial practice. Financial support is understood not only as a minimum financial obligation but also as an instrument of relational justice that affects family stability. This study concludes that affirming the contextual and operational limits of alimony obligations has the potential to become a preventive instrument for divorce. The implications of this study emphasize the need to strengthen alimony assessment standards, family law education, and more responsive and equitable judicial policies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the meaning of tafakkur (deep reflection) in Surah Al-A'raf verse 176 and examine its relevance to spiritual, moral, and social education in contemporary Islam. This research employed a qualitative approach with library research methodology, involving the analysis of classical tafsir literature such as Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Tafsir al-Qurtubi, and Tafsir al-Razi, as well as contemporary interpretations by Sayyid Qutb and M. Quraish Shihab. The tahlili (analytical) and descriptive methods were used to interpret the meaning of tafakkur, while content analysis was applied to identify educational values embedded within the verse. The results indicate that tafakkur in QS. Al-A'raf 176 encompasses three interconnected dimensions: (1) spiritual dimension, which cultivates awareness and closeness to Allah; (2) moral dimension, which functions as a mechanism for self-control and ethical guidance; and (3) social dimension, which encourages individuals to apply reflective wisdom in constructive social interactions. These values can be integrated into contemporary Islamic education through pedagogical methods that emphasize reflection, discussion, case studies, and social practice. This study contributes to the development of holistic Islamic education that produces students who are not only intellectually competent but also spiritually mature, morally upright, and socially responsible. The findings underscore the critical importance of tafakkur as a foundation for character development in facing the challenges of modern education.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis konsep manusia sebagai pembelajar Allah dalam QS. al-Baqarah (31-33) dan implikasinya terhadap motivasi serta aksi pembelajaran dalam pendidikan Islam kontemporer. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode tafsir tematik (tafsīr maudhu'ī), penelitian ini mengkaji delapan kitab tafsir klasik dan kontemporer. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa pengajaran al-asmā' kepada Nabi Adam melambangkan anugerah kapasitas intelektual dan spiritual, menjadikan Allah sebagai al-Mu'allim al-Awwal (Pendidik Pertama) dan manusia sebagai pembelajar dengan fitrah mencari ilmu. Penelitian ini mengintegrasikan nilai tarbawi Qur'ani dengan teori psikologi pendidikan modern: self-determination theory, self-regulated learning, habit loop, dan growth mindset. Motivasi intrinsik dalam Islam sejalan dengan kebutuhan psikologis dasar (otonomi, kompetensi, keterkaitan) yang diwujudkan melalui ijtihad, pengembangan fitrah, dan ukhuwah. Proses pembelajaran Qur'ani menekankan siklus tafakkur-niyyah-mujahadah-muhasabah yang resonan dengan fase self-regulated learning. Pembiasaan amal saleh melalui habit loop menjadi kunci transformasi ilmu menjadi karakter (malakah). Implikasi praktis mencakup desain kurikulum integratif, metode pengajaran reflektif, evaluasi berbasis karakter, dan orientasi pendidikan holistik yang menghasilkan individu beriman, berilmu, dan beramal.
