Abstract

The purpose of the research to determine effect of the use of Module-Based Research on Learning Model  of Think Pair Share and Group Investigation to Understanding of Concept and Metacognition Ability of 10th Grade Students at SMA Negeri 1 Boyolali 2013/2014 Academic Year. This research was quasi experiment research which use Pretest-postest Nonequivalent control group design. The research population was all students of 10th Grade at SMA Negeri 1 Boyolali 2013/2014 Academic Year. The sample is taken by using Cluster Random Sampling method, in order to obtain 4 class  experimental and 1 control class with the same capabilities. Experimental class is a class with treatment of different learning, namely TPS + module-based research, GI + module-based research, TPS, GI, and one class as a control. Data was collected using a multiple-choice test, test description, and observation sheets. Hypothesis testing using Anacova test. The research concluded that there are significant differences to understanding concept of  students as a result of the use Think Pair Share and Group Investigation with module-based research. Results for metacognition abilities showed no significant difference from the treatment that used, namely TPS + module-based research, GI + module-based research, TPS, GI towards metacognitive abilities of of 10th Grade Students at SMA Negeri 1 Boyolali 2013/2014 Academic Year.

Abstract

Microbiology course is one of the compulsory subjects in the study program of education. This course requires implemented in two activities that is theory and practical. Limitations of equipment and materials in practical activities, the lack of detailed practical instructions for each topic, as well as the implementation of lab activities less systematically make this activity less than optimal. The development of psychomotor abilities and performance of students who are less maximized become another problem related to the achievement of learning objectives in accordance with the standards of competence in this course. Based on the above problems the researchers conducted a study on lab activities based lesson study. Selection of lesson study is done to correct deficiencies in each study appears from some observers and colleagues who participated in the activities of lesson study. Results from this study that practical activities based lesson study is able to improve the quality of learning and improving biology education students psychomotor ability at IKIP Budi Utomo Malang

Abstract

The aims of this research were to know the relationship between : 1) IQ with biology cognitive learning achievement of the first grade students, 2) learning motivation with biology cognitive learning achievement of the first grade students, 3) learning facilities utilization with biology cognitive learning achievement of the first grade stu- dents. This was a correlational research. The population were all of the first grade students of SMAN 7 Surakarta in academic year of 2011/2012. The sample was taken among 80 samples of student using simple random sampling technique. Documentation method was used to uncover student’s cognitive learning achievement, IQ was measured by test, while learning motivation and learning facilities utilization was measured by questionnaire. The obtained data was analysed using multiple regression analysis of SPSS 17. The result showed that there was a significant and positive correlation between learning motivation with biology cognitive learning achievement of the first grade students of SMAN 7 Surakarta, with relative contribution was 100% and efective contribution was 6,8%. The previous research showed that there were a significant and positive correlation between IQ and learning facilities utilization with student’s achievement, but in this research there were not a significant correlation both IQ and learning facilities utilization with biology cognitive learning achievement of the first grade students of SMAN 7 Surakarta.

Abstract

This research aimed to detect the flavonoid content from the leaf ofjack fruit (Artocarpus altilis Park). That leaf has medicinal aspect, since it can be used to decrease the glucose from the blood circulation and act as anti diabethic activity respectively. The detection of flavonoid was carried out by using thin layer chromatography (TLC) with steady phase of silica of GF 254 and the elluent ratio of chloroform: methanol of 98:2. The result obtained the presence of flavonoid complexes at that leaf indicated by yellow spot and amoniac steam on the TLC.. That result could enrich the biochemistry learning material toward student.

Abstract

Tom-toman (Indigofera) plants are popular among batik and weavers' community in Indonesia for long time ago as one of natural dyes. The etnobotany of Indigofera need to be analyzed by considering the indigenous knowledge of people who know and utilize the plants since ancient period, and passed the knowledge from their ancestors. This study aims to explore information of etnobotany of Indigofera in the world and particularly in Indonesia. The information of its botany found from old manuscripts and literatures, which furtherly compared with morpohologycal observation. Some samples of Indigofera found in Flores and Java were determined, and matched with the characteristics that had been released by several well-known botanists. It can be said that indigenous people had developed adequate skills on how to name the plants, distinguish the species, and utilize for daily purposes. The indigenous naming system was built based on fenotyphic characters.

Abstract

This research aims to increase the scientific literacy and decrease the student’s misconception in class X MIA 6 of SMAN 1 Karanganom by applying e-module based on the concept of Problem Based Learning (PBL). The type of the research is a classroom action research which consist of two cycles. Each cycles applied: planning the learning activity, then implementing those plan, next was observing the students’ activity and finally complimenting the whole activities during a cycle. The research subject is the students of class X MIA 6 at SMAN 1 Karanganom. There are 11 boys and 23 girls. The data validation used triangulation method. The data of the research were obtained by formulating the test, the observation and the interview. The obtained data  were analyzed using the descriptive technique. The results of the research showed the implementation of e-module based on the concept of PBL decrease the students’ misconception on the ecology subject with the explanation: the population concept decreased 21%, the comunity concept run into reduction 22%, the ecosystem concept  went down 21% and the ecology concept in ‘Science, environment, technology, and society’ context reduced 26%. The analysed result also indicated that the scientific literacy has increased 20.6%. The result of the research evidenced that implementation of e-module based on the concept of PBL could increase the scientific literation and decrease the students’ misconception on the ecology subject. Keywords:     E-module with based Problem Based Learning, misconception, scientific literacy

Abstract

Abstract. Black potatoes (Coleus tuberosus Benth.) is a crop that has a high carbohydrate content and resistance to pests and diseases better than other types of potatoes grown in the highlands. Productivity some of black potato’s cultivars grown by farmers varies between regions. The research was conducted to study the growth response and production of three cultivars derived from Blora, Sragen and Purwokerto on four levels of NPK fertilization there are without fertilizer, 3, 6 and 9 grams for each plant, respectively. Black potatoes were planted in polybags using bulbs that had germinated during one week. The results showed a dose fertilization and its interaction with the type of black potatoes kutivar not significantly affect observations on plant height, number of leaves, fresh weight of plant, dry weight of plant and tuber weight, but among cultivars showed differences in growth. The difference in growth between cultivars is not caused by fertilization treatment but causes by genetic differences. Cultivars derived from Sragen showes growth and tuber production better than the other cultivars.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study is to improve the cognitive learning results and students’ learning motivation through the discovery learning model and bowling campus strategy, as well as applying the discovery learning model and bowling campus strategy in the energy material. This study was done in SMP Kristen 2 Salatiga by using the students from Class VII A as the subjects. The study used some instruments such as observation sheets, questionnaires and tests. The descriptive analysis was employed in this study. The results of this study show that the percentage of the students’ cognitive learning results fulfilling the 75 competence standard (KKM) in cycle I is 52,38% and it becomes 85,71% in cycle II. The observation result of the students’ learning motivation in cycle I is 76, 19% students achieving good minimum category and it becomes 100% students achieving good minimum category. Based on the students’ perception data about their motivation, there are 100% students in cycle I and II achieving the good minimum category.  The results of applying the discovery learning model and bowling campus strategy are capable to make the students to be more active in the learning process, to improve their motivation during the learning process, to facilitate them to comprehend the material concept and to review the materials in order to improve their cognitive learning results.                    Keywords: Discovery Learning, Bowling Campus Strategy, Learning and Motivation Results
