Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of public communication conducted by the North Sumatra Tourism Office at the "Sumut Tourism Festival 2024" event in strengthening the tourism sector in the province, with a focus on the perceptions of students of the D-IV MICE Study Program at the Medan State Polytechnic. The specific target to be achieved is to identify effective public communication strategies in increasing student participation and interest in visiting North Sumatra tourism, as well as providing recommendations for improving future communication strategies. The research method used is a quantitative approach with a survey using a questionnaire distributed to students. The data obtained will be analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results of the study indicate that public communication conducted by the North Sumatra Provincial Tourism Office through the "Sumut Tourism Festival 2024" has proven effective in strengthening the regional tourism sector. This effectiveness is seen from the positive and significant influence between public communication (X) on strengthening tourism (Y), evidenced by the calculated t value (9.825) > t table (1.974) and Sig. 0.000 < 0.05. This means that the more effective the public communication is, the greater the strengthening of public interest and participation, especially MICE students at the Medan State Polytechnic, in the tourism sector.

Abstract

Anxiety disorder has become one of the most pressing mental health issues in modern society. Conventional psychological approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), pharmacotherapy, and mindfulness often emphasize biological and rational aspects, leaving the spiritual dimension underexplored. In fact, spirituality plays an essential role in establishing psychological balance. This study aims to examine the Qur’anic values of ridha (acceptance), tawakkal (trust in God), and sabr (patience) as interpreted in Sayyid Qutb’s Fi Zhilalil Qur’an, and their relevance in overcoming contemporary anxiety. This research applies a qualitative method with a library research approach, utilizing thematic exegesis (tafsir maudhū’i) of the Qur’anic verses and their interpretations, combined with Islamic psychology literature and empirical findings related to anxiety. The results indicate that ridha serves as active acceptance fostering emotional stability, tawakkal harmonizes human effort with reliance on God to generate inner peace, and sabr strengthens psychological resilience in facing life’s challenges. The integration of these three values forms a holistic Qur’an-based Islamic therapeutic model that is both normative and applicable. Therefore, this study highlights the significance of Qur’anic spirituality as an alternative framework for addressing anxiety while simultaneously reinforcing the spiritual foundation of modern Muslim communities.

Abstract

The study of mawaris (Islamic inheritance law) is often considered complex due to the involvement of precise mathematical calculations. However, conventional teaching methods tend to be less engaging and difficult to understand, especially for the younger generation who are more familiar with technology. Therefore, the development of an electronic module based on realistic mathematics, such as e-Mawamatik, becomes highly important. This module not only facilitates the understanding of mawaris concepts through an applied mathematical approach but also leverages technology to enhance students’ interest and engagement. This study aims to develop an e-Mawamatik module for teaching mawaris that integrates mathematical concepts to simplify the understanding and calculation of inheritance distribution. The module is designed to help students comprehend inheritance division according to Islamic law through concrete examples and digital simulations. In addition, e-Mawamatik seeks to increase learning interest, support independent learning.. The development of e-Mawamatik adopts a research and development (R&D) method, involving the stages of needs analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Furthermore, the module will be tested by students and experts to ensure the accuracy of its content and the effectiveness of the learning process. Evaluation is carried out through user feedback and continuous improvement to produce an optimal module. The media expert validation score was 88.3%, language expert validation 87.5%, and material expert validation 90% and matematic realistic expert validation 87,5%, with an average score percentage categorized as very valid. The trial conducted by teachers and students of Grade XI at Madrasah Aliyah Pondok Pesantren K.H. Ahmad Dahlan Sipirok showed that respondents scored 85.10% for the needs and interest aspect, and 90.88% for the usage evaluation aspect. The average percentage score across all aspects was 88.6%, falling into the category of very valid.

Abstract

This study explores the imposition of car rental fees during post-accident repair periods from the perspective of Wahbah Az-Zuhaili, with a focus on car rental companies operating in Medan Tembung. The primary objective is to examine the risk-sharing arrangements between the renter and the vehicle owner, as well as the consequences arising from accidents involving rented vehicles. The study further analyzes the compatibility of the risk coverage system implemented by rental companies with the principles of the ijarah ‘ala al-manfa’ah contract, as interpreted by Wahbah Az-Zuhaili. A qualitative research method with a normative-empirical analysis approach was employed. The findings reveal that rental companies, specifically Zahri Rental, place full liability on renters for vehicle damages even when not caused by renter negligence. Renters are also required to pay additional rental fees while the vehicle is under insurance repair, despite having already covered the insurance claim. This policy is driven by the substantial financial losses incurred by Zahri Rental due to idle vehicles that cannot be rented out during repairs. Although intended to mitigate company losses, this practice does not fully align with the principles of ijarah ‘ala al-manfa’ah, which emphasize a balanced benefit between the renter and the rental owner.

Abstract

The status of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) royalties as joint property after divorce remains a matter of debate among academics and legal practitioners due to the lack of clear regulations in positive law or the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI). This article aims to examine the views of judges at the Religious Court of North Sumatra regarding IPR royalties remaining as joint property after divorce. This study uses empirical juridical research with a statutory approach, case studies, and a conceptual approach. Primary data sources were obtained from interviews with several Religious Court judges domiciled in North Sumatra. Secondary data sources were obtained from primary legal materials such as Law Number 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright and Law Number 13 of 2016 concerning Patents. Data analysis used qualitative analysis methods. The results show that the views of Religious Court judges in North Sumatra regarding the distribution of IPR royalties after divorce are very diverse, reflecting a spectrum of thought from moderate to restrictive. Some judges argue that the approach to distributing royalties from intellectual works, such as songs, is based on the principle of moderate justice. The 50:50 distribution scheme is considered a basic rule or default rule that reflects the balance of rights between both parties during the marriage. However, this rule is not absolute; the distribution can be adjusted if there is evidence that one party has made a greater contribution, whether financially, through creative ideas, or through administrative support. Some judges reject the distribution of intellectual property royalties after a divorce, in order to maintain the principle of creator autonomy, unless there is a clear prenuptial agreement. In other words, intellectual property rights cannot simply be categorized as joint property without a clear contractual legal basis. Others prefer a contextual approach, assessing each case uniquely based on the economic structure, relationship history, and contributions of each party.

Abstract

This study is to analyze the methods of preparation and extent of community involvement in the implementation of the Regent and Deputy Regent elections in Southeast Aceh Regency, specifically in Bambel District, in 2024. Regional head elections are a fundamental component of the democratic framework, where active community participation serves as a measure of the efficacy of the democratic process at the local level. This research employs a qualitative methodology using descriptive techniques, including in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation analysis involving election organizers, community leaders, and voters. The study's findings demonstrate that the Independent Election Commission (KIP) and the District Election Committee (PPK) have executed their preparations in accordance with the prescribed steps, despite many technical and social challenges. Meanwhile, community participation shows a positive trend, driven by increased political awareness and the active role of traditional and religious leaders in encouraging residents to exercise their right to vote. However, there are still challenges in the form of apathy among some young voters and the influence of money politics. This study recommends the need to strengthen local-based political education to improve the quality of voter participation in the future.

Abstract

The phenomenon of code-switching has become an increasingly significant linguistic practice in digital communication, especially within public discourse featuring influential figures. This study aims to analyze the types, functions, and socio-pragmatic meanings of code-switching in the Mata Najwa podcast episode titled Women in Power, featuring Indonesia’s key female leaders Retno Marsudi and Sri Mulyani. Using a qualitative case study design and grounded in sociolinguistic theory, this research investigates how code-switching operates as a communicative strategy for constructing identity, negotiating power, and representing leadership in digital spaces. Data were collected through non-participant observation, verbatim transcription, and visual documentation. Thematic analysis was conducted using Hoffman’s (1991) typology of code-switching, comprising inter-sentential, intra-sentential, and tag-switching. Findings indicate that intra-sentential switching is most dominant (59%), followed by inter-sentential (30%) and tag-switching (11%). The results reveal that code-switching functions not only as a bilingual communication tool but also as a rhetorical and symbolic act that reflects pragmatic competence, global orientation, and cultural identity alignment. This linguistic behavior signifies how female leaders articulate global authority while maintaining local identity, demonstrating code-switching as a form of gendered communicative performance. The study contributes to digital sociolinguistics and gender communication studies by offering empirical evidence of how multilingual discourse in podcasts mediates identity, power, and leadership narratives in contemporary digital culture.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms and distribution of code-mixing in bilingual conversations between Cinta Laura and Maudy Ayunda on the Puella podcast, using Muysken’s (2000) theoretical framework. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, this research identifies three main types of code-mixing Insertion, Alternation, and Congruent Lexicalization to reveal their linguistic and social functions. The data consist of 77 lines of conversation extracted from the YouTube Puella channel, which were classified and analyzed based on the context of their use. The results indicate that Alternation is the most dominant type, accounting for 50.65% of occurrences, followed by single-language use (Indonesian 18.18% and English 16.88%), Congruent Lexicalization (6.49%), and Insertion (3.90%). The predominance of Alternation demonstrates the speakers’ flexibility in switching between languages and reflects their strong bilingual identity. Functionally, code-mixing serves as an effective communication strategy to enhance self-expression, establish rapport with bilingual audiences, and represent the socio-cultural dynamics of the young generation in the global era. This study provides an empirical contribution to sociolinguistic research by emphasizing code-mixing as both a linguistic and social phenomenon enriching communication practices in digital media.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of work culture, work motivation, and career progression on employee productivity within Islamic institutions. Grounded in the theoretical integration of Organizational Culture Theory, Self-Determination Theory, and Human Capital Theory, the research acknowledges the role of Islamic Work Ethic values—such as amanah, ikhlas, and itqan—as shaping mechanisms in professional behavior. A quantitative explanatory design was employed, involving a survey distributed to employees across selected Islamic institutions in Indonesia. Simple random sampling was used to determine respondents, and data were analyzed through multiple linear regression with validity and reliability tests performed to ensure measurement accuracy. The findings demonstrate that all three independent variables significantly and positively affect employee productivity. Work culture emerged as a key determinant, emphasizing the role of shared values, teamwork, and disciplinary practices grounded in Islamic ethos. Work motivation also showed a strong effect, indicating that employees are driven not only by extrinsic incentives but also by intrinsic and spiritual motives rooted in religious consciousness. Career progression further contributed significantly to productivity, suggesting that structured development pathways and perceived fairness in advancement enhance performance in Islamic institutional settings. Overall, the results reinforce the view that value-based organizational systems integrating ethical and spiritual dimensions can enhance workforce excellence. This research contributes theoretically by contextualizing Western organizational behavior models within an Islamic moral framework and practically by offering insights for strengthening human resource strategies in Islamic institutions.
