Abstract

The issue of character development in Indonesia reflects the fact that character education has not yet been fully successful. This is due to various factors, including the influence of technological advancement, lack of supervision from parents and teachers, and the unavailability of effective media to support character formation. The aim of this study is to enhance the character traits of students as outlined in the Pancasila Student Profile through the development of an innovative, digital based character card media. The study employed the ADDIE development model. The research subjects included two media experts and two subject matter experts, while the product trial involved 49 students from classes VA and VIB. Data collection methods included observation, character survey tests, interviews, and questionnaires. The instruments used were questionnaire sheets and interview forms. Qualitative data analysis was applied in this study. The results showed that the average score given by media experts was 91%, indicating the media was "highly feasible." Content validation by subject matter experts yielded an average score of 92%, also categorized as "highly feasible." The normalized gain analysis for students' development of the Pancasila Student Profile produced an average N-gain score of 0.73, which falls into the "high" category. The Wilcoxon test showed a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the pretest and posttest groups. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of digital-based character card media effectively enhances the character traits of elementary school students in alignment with the Pancasila Student Profile. The implications of the research are that digital based character card media is suitable for use in learning.

Abstract

English communication in multilingual and multicultural environments, such as cruise ship hospitality, often presents challenges due to differences in english proficiency, first language influences, and cultural factors among the speakers involved. This study aims to compare the perspectives of two cruise ship hospitality industry stakeholders: english instructors at a job training institution and cruise ship staff recruiters, to investigate the types of speech errors tolerated in a professional environment. This study was qualitative. The subjects were three english instructors and three recruiters. Data was collected through interviews and documentation. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The study found significant differences in perspective between the two groups. On the one hand, recruiters focused on real world performance, they were more tolerant of errors as long as the message remained clear, confident, and communicative. On the other hand, english instructors emphasized grammatical accuracy, appropriate vocabulary, and correct structure, considering errors as indicators of insufficient english language competence. Thus, recruiters and English instructors have different views on errors in english communication in a professional environment.

Abstract

A current problem is the tendency towards passive communication patterns among students. Students express difficulty understanding the subject matter but feel embarrassed to ask questions in class. This study aims to analyze communication patterns in junior high schools, focusing on communication patterns between students and teachers, students and dormitory supervisors, and the factors that influence these communication patterns. The study used a qualitative approach and adopted Interpersonal Communication Theory and Symbolic Interaction Theory as theoretical bases. Data collection methods involved interviews, observations, and document analysis using purposive sampling techniques for informant selection. Triangulation of sources and methods was used to ensure the validity of the data. The study results indicate four communication patterns of students with teachers and dormitory supervisors. The first is a passive communication pattern (less talking, minimal eye contact, reluctant to ask questions). The second is an aggressive communication pattern (dominating, sometimes rude, disrupting harmony). The third is a passive aggressive communication pattern (delaying with aggressive motivation, inhibiting cooperation), and the fourth is an assertive communication pattern (self-confident, able to express opinions clearly and openly, dominant among high achieving students). Factors influencing these communication patterns include internal factors (self-concept, interpersonal relationships, past experiences) and family factors (habits of interacting and discussing at home). The implications of this research highlight the importance of promoting assertive communication among students.

Abstract

The low speaking skills of students in the context of learning English for specific purposes, such as tourism, encourage the need for a more effective teaching approach. This study aims to analyze the ARCS Model's effectiveness in improving students' speaking accuracy and fluency in the tourism study program at Politeknik Negeri Sriwijaya. This study used a quasi experimental design with a pretest and posttest approach, involving 60 EFL students (22 males and 38 females) aged 18–20 years who took the English for Hospitality course in the second semester of the 2025 academic year. The homogeneity of the participants' initial abilities was tested using the Oxford Placement Test (OPT). The participants were randomly divided into an experimental group (with the ARCS Model) and a control group (with conventional methods). The instrument used was the Cambridge PET speaking test, with two assessment indicators: Error-Free Clauses per T-unit (EFC/T) for accuracy and Words per Minute (W/M) for fluency. Data analysis was done using MANOVA with the help of IBM SPSS Statistics software version 24.0. The results showed a statistically significant improvement in the experimental group for both aspects of speaking skills, with a significance value of p < 0.001, and a Partial Eta Squared effect size of 0.522 (accurate) and 0.805 (fluent). These findings concluded that the ARCS Model effectively improves speaking skills, especially fluency, compared to conventional teaching methods. Therefore, integrating the ARCS Model in the foreign language curriculum at vocational institutions is recommended to strengthen students' communicative competence and competitiveness in the global tourism industry.

Abstract

Students' non academic skills, especially soft skills, have not received much attention in the evaluation of Islamic values based programs. In fact, activities such as Muhadharah have the potential to support the development of these aspects. This study aims to thoroughly evaluate the effectiveness of the Muhadharah program in developing students' soft skills using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model. A mixed methods approach was used, with data collection through questionnaires, interviews, observation, and documentation. Quantitative data were analyzed using percentage and Respondent Achievement Rate (TCR) techniques, while qualitative data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the Muhadharah program was in the “good” category in all four aspects of the evaluation. The program is relevant to students' needs, supported by adequate resources, implemented in a structured manner, and has a positive impact on improving speaking skills, self-confidence, cooperation, and other social skills. The study concluded that Muhadharah is an effective strategy in shaping soft skills through a religious approach. The implication of this study shows that the integration of religious activities and character strengthening is a relevant approach for modern Islamic education and can be replicated in other educational units with similar characteristics.

Abstract

Many elementary schools struggle to improve teaching quality due to the limited impact of conventional, top down supervision models that lack alignment with teacher development needs, thereby hindering reflective practice and teacher autonomy issues that coaching based supervision, with its emphasis on partnership, dialogue, and empowerment, seeks to address. This study is to delineate the implementation process of coaching supervision, investigate the experiences of educators and administrators, and assess its effects on teacher performance and the quality of learning in Elementary School. Data were gathered via in depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, there after analyzed interactively according to the Miles and Huberman approach. The study's findings indicated that coaching supervision was conducted systematically, adhering to the concepts of equitable partnership, innovative discussion, and teacher empowerment, which fostered profound reflection and professional autonomy. This supervisory technique fostered a collaborative environment that facilitated innovation in daily educational practices. A notable beneficial effect was observed from the enhancement of teacher performance and the quality of education at the school, however adaptation issues persisted, particularly around shifts in roles and mindsets. On going support and training are crucial elements in surmounting these challenges. The results of this study are anticipated to serve as a benchmark for other primary schools in creating a more adaptive, efficient, and sustainable supervision model to enhance elementary education overall.

Abstract

Limited practical tools are a crucial obstacle in vocational education because they disrupt the continuity of skills learning, which should be hands-on and contextual. The imbalance between the number of students and practical tools results in unproductive waiting time and low learning effectiveness. This study aims to examine teachers' strategies in integrating a Learning Management System (LMS) as a complementary medium for practical learning, and to understand students' experiences in this process. Using a qualitative approach with an intrinsic case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation studies, with participants consisting of three practicing teachers and eight students from the Light Vehicle Engineering program. The results show that the LMS Moodle was adopted as an adaptive response to the limited practical tools. Teachers utilized this platform to embed video tutorials, assign case studies, and divide digital-practice groups, rotating. Students demonstrated increased learning independence and engagement, despite facing technical challenges. This study recommends an LMS integration model to complement direct practice, involving visual tutorial components, asynchronous feedback, and flexible, rotation-based learning. These findings contribute to developing technology-based practical learning in vocational high schools (SMKs) experiencing limited facilities, while expanding the literature on digital adaptation in context-based vocational education.

Abstract

Mental health among high school students remains a concern due to the ongoing academic, social, and psychological pressures. Students face various academic and social demands that can trigger stress and disrupt their mental well being. Based on this, the aim of this study is to analyze the influence of mindfulness and emotional intelligence on the mental health of high school students. This study uses a quantitative approach. This study uses an explanatory survey method. The population of this study consisted of 102 high school student respondents. This study chose to use the entire population as its research sample, employing the census technique. Data collection methods used interviews, questionnaires, and observations. The instrument used in this study was a questionnaire sheet. The data analysis technique used includes regression analysis. The results of the study, specifically the F-test results, showed that both emotional intelligence and mindfulness collectively had a significant impact on the mental health conditions of students. The results of the t-test showed that the influence of emotional intelligence on mental health is very strong and statistically significant. The results of the multicollinearity test showed that the two variables did not experience a high correlation that was detrimental to the model, with a Tolerance value of 0.679 and a VIF of 1.473 for both. It was concluded that emotional intelligence has a greater influence on mental health than mindfulness. The implication of the research is that mindfulness and emotional intelligence have an impact on students' mental health, so teachers should consider integrating mindfulness training programs into their curriculum.
