Abstract

There are two aspects of the problems of the cattle farming community in Soppeng Regency, namely the availability of feed and the impact of livestock waste. The largest waste potential in Soppeng Regency, especially Watu Village, is agricultural and livestock waste. However, it has not been utilized optimally. Watu Village, which is rich in organic materials, is one of the reasons for developing this village as an organic farming village in Soppeng Regency. The purpose of this activity is to increase the capacity of knowledge and skills of partner farmers in processing organic waste from livestock and agriculture to be produced into compost fertilizer or fermented feed (silage). A total of 3 community group partners were involved, namely: 1) the "Allaringnge" farmer/livestock group, 2) the "Kampung Baru" women's farmer group and 3) the village-owned business entity "Dewa Utama". Two technology packages have been applied to partners, namely compost production process technology and fermented feed (silage) production process technology. The applied technology method is carried out in four stages, namely: 1) socialization, 2) training, 3) practice and creation of technology demonstration plots, and 4) evaluation. The results of the implementation of the activities have proven to be able to increase the capacity and knowledge of partners regarding the methods and processes for producing organic fertilizer (bio-compost) and fermented feed (silage) by utilizing livestock and agricultural waste.

Abstract

Plastic waste is a pollution problem in coastal areas, and this issue has become a global concern that requires serious attention, especially for archipelagic countries like Indonesia. This community service program aims to reduce plastic pollution at Elak-Elak Beach, West Lombok, and raise environmental awareness among the local community. Conducted in September 2023, the program involved the participation of nearly 200 students and 12 lecturers from the Marine Science Program at the University of Mataram, along with several local community members. Through scheduled beach clean-up activities, the program successfully collected approximately 10 bags, equivalent to 50-70 kg of waste, with plastic dominating the types of waste found. In addition to waste reduction efforts, the program also indirectly educated the local community about the impacts of plastic pollution on marine ecosystems, successfully increasing participants' awareness after the activities. Although the program showed positive results, challenges remain in waste management and the lack of adequate facilities. Therefore, ongoing collaboration between the community, government, and relevant organizations is essential to preserve Elak-Elak Beach and educate the public on the importance of proper environmental management.

Abstract

Health is an important aspect of life, especially in today's modern era. When health is compromised, a person's quality of life also decreases. Currently, public awareness of the importance of maintaining health is increasing, in line with the World Health Organization's view that health includes physical, mental, and social well-being, not just the absence of disease. Even so, many still underestimate the importance of prevention in maintaining health. Prevention is a very important initial step, because treating diseases that have developed is much more difficult and expensive. Technological advances, such as smartphones and the internet, make human life easier, but also reduce physical activity, triggering a sedentary lifestyle. This lifestyle can affect health in the long term, where many diseases arise due to unhealthy habits. Therefore, technology-based solutions, such as the Healtime platform, are relevant in helping to analyze health conditions quickly and encourage preventive measures to maintain health amidst lifestyle changes. Healtime also offers features to monitor daily habits, provide lifestyle recommendations, and support individuals in achieving a balance between work and personal health.

Abstract

The northern part of Central Lombok Regency is a pristine area, one of which is Darmaji Village, with the majority of the population working as farm/plantation laborers and farmers/planters, as well as casual laborers. Generally, farmers use chemical fertilizers for plants on agricultural land and buy EM4 as a starter for making compost. From the problem of using chemical fertilizers and the constraints of the cost of purchasing EM4, a work program was created by utilizing surrounding waste or using leftover vegetables, rotten fruit and banana stems as basic ingredients for making MOL and organic fertilizer. The purpose of the service is to provide socialization, education and training to the KWT of Darmaji Village about MOL, organic fertilizer and how to make MOL, organic fertilizer by utilizing household waste. The benefits of this work program are that the Women Farmer Groups who attend can gain knowledge about MOL, organic fertilizer and how to make MOL and organic fertilizer by utilizing household waste that is easily available in the surrounding environment. The implementation time of this work program is October 2024 in Darmaji Village, Kopang District, Central Lombok Regency. Abstract

The repeated use of cooking oil more than twice is still common in Indonesian society. However, used cooking oil can negatively affect health, being even more detrimental than saturated fatty acids. Additionally, it contributes to pollution in soil and water. One effective method for repurposing used cooking oil is by converting it into soap. This community service initiative aims to promote the utilization of used cooking oil in economically valuable products while reducing the amount of waste oil that is discarded into the environment. The training was conducted for PKK cadres in Bengkaung Village and facilitated by pharmacists, dermatologists, and students from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Mataram. The soap-making process begins by adding charcoal to the used cooking oil for 72 hours. This step helps remove hazardous substances and unpleasant odors. Afterward, the oil is filtered and combined with essential soap-making ingredients, including sunflower oil, virgin coconut oil (VCO), olive oil, sodium hydroxide (NaOH), and water. NaOH is critical for the saponification process, which transforms the oil into soap. To enhance the aesthetic value and benefits of the soap, ingredients like honey, yogurt, or natural dyes such as butterfly pea flowers can be incorporated. The mixture is then poured into molds and allowed to harden. Given the simple process and the ease of obtaining the necessary tools and materials, the PKK cadres in Bengkaung Village have shown enthusiasm for making soap from used cooking oil. This activity is expected to broaden their knowledge and provide business opportunities to help increase family income in the village.
