Abstract

This study explores the application of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) model as a contextual approach to overcome learning difficulties among eighth-grade students in understanding the topic of circles. The research was conducted through a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method in two cycles at SMPN SATAP 1 Pringgabaya, involving 13 students as subjects. The implementation of RME focused on bridging abstract mathematical concepts with real-life experiences through contextualized problem-solving, group activities, and visual representations. Data were collected through tests, questionnaires, and classroom observations. The results showed a notable improvement in students’ conceptual understanding, with the average score increasing from 62.91 in cycle I to 72.5 in cycle II, and classical completeness rising from 58.33% to 75%. Furthermore, learning interest increased from 61.42% to 79.45%. These findings indicate that RME not only enhances students' cognitive outcomes but also positively influences their engagement and motivation. Thus, RME serves as an effective pedagogical strategy for teaching geometry, particularly in visualizing and contextualizing mathematical concepts such as circles.

Abstract

This study examines the rationality of youth in responding to the development of the digital economy, particularly in the context of work flexibility and digital skills acquisition. Amid rapid digital transformation, young people are required to make rational decisions in choosing career paths, developing skills, and utilizing digital platforms to create job opportunities that align with their lifestyles and personal needs. Using a qualitative approach through ethnographic methods, this research explores how youth actively engage with technology—such as social media and digital marketing—in their daily work practices, including flexible job models like freelancing and the gig economy. The study employs Max Weber’s theory of social action, particularly the concept of instrumental rational action, to understand how young people determine goals and select the means used in their digital economic activities. The findings reveal that youth leverage work flexibility and digital skills as strategies to achieve economic independence and build professional identities, while also facing dilemmas such as the trend of flexing, which emphasizes appearance over substance. This research concludes that the rationality of youth in the digital economy reflects a complex adaptation involving pragmatic values, personal needs, and social pressures in the digital era. The findings are expected to serve as a reference for policymakers in designing youth empowerment programs that are more responsive to the challenges and dynamics of the digital labor landscape.

Abstract

The problem of moral decline of the younger generation is currently increasingly concerning. Reality shows that many young generations have lost their national cultural identity, are involved in brawls, drugs, free sex, are involved in motorcycle gangs, bullying and the degradation of student morality which ultimately leads to juvenile delinquency. One effort to overcome this problem is to implement national values and character education in national education. This study aims to analyze the implementation of values and character education as an important foundation in the Indonesian national education system and to analyze the challenges in implementing national values and character education. Using a descriptive qualitative method through literature studies and research results show that values and character education in the context of national education is implemented through intracurricular, extracurricular, co-curricular learning, and habituation activities. The challenges in implementing values and character education are the lack of understanding and awareness among educators and parents, the inconsistency of the curriculum with the objectives of character education, dependence on academic assessments, limited human resources and infrastructure, negative influences from the social and technological environment, and the integration of character values that are less coherent.

Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, especially ChatGPT, has had a major impact on the world of education, including among high school students. This study aims to identify the level of ChatGPT usage and the perceptions of high school teenagers in Bandung City regarding the positive and negative impacts of its use. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and documentation from 100 respondents selected using stratified random sampling. The results showed that 91% of students use ChatGPT for academic purposes, but only 35% understand how to use it wisely. As many as 77% of respondents are aware of the potential risk of dependency, but many still use it without critical consideration. These findings indicate that although AI can increase productivity and efficiency in learning, ignorance in its use has the potential to interfere with the development of critical and analytical thinking skills, social and collaborative development, and the low accuracy of information generated by Chat-GPT. Therefore, digital literacy and an educational approach are needed that prioritize the use of AI ethically and responsibly in the era of Society 5.0.
