Abstract

Rainfall which is occurred in an area explain the Onset Rainy Season (ORS). ORS is a characteristic of the rainy season which is important to know, but the characteristics of the rain itself is very difficult to predict. We use the method of Fuzzy Inference System (FIS) to predict ORS. Unfortunately, FIS is weak to determine parameters so that influences the working FIS method. In this study, we use PSO to optimize parameter of the FIS method to increase perform of the FIS method for onset prediction of the rainy season with the predictor Sea Surface Temperature Nino 3.4 and Index Ocean Dipole. We used coefficient correlation to determine the relationship between two variables as predictors and RMSE as evaluate to all methods. The experiment result has shown that the work of FIS-PSO after optimizing produced the good work with the coefficient correlation = 0.57 and RMSE = 2.96 that is the smallest value that is better performance if compared with other methods. It can be concluded that the method proposed can increase the onset prediction of the rainy season.

Abstract

One of the oldest known predictive analytics techniques is time series prediction. The target in time series prediction is use historical data about a specific quantity to predicts value of the same quantity in the future. Multivariate time series (MTS) data has been widely used in time series prediction research because it is considered better than univariate time series (UTS) data. However, in reality MTS data sets contain various types of information which makes it difficult to extract information to predict the situation. Therefore, UTS data still has a chance to be developed because it is actually simpler than MTS data. UTS prediction treats forecasts as a single variable problem, whereas MTS may employ a large number of time-concurred series to make predictions. Neural Network (NN) model could be built to predict the target variable given the other (predictor) variables. In this study, we used Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm to optimize performance of NN on a UTS dataset. Our proposed model is validated using x-validation and and use RMSE to measure its performance. The experimental results show that NN performance after optimization using PSO produces good results compared to classical NN performance. This is evidenced by the value of RMSE = 0.410 which is the smallest RMSE value produced. The smaller the RMSE value, the better the model performance. It can be concluded that the proposed method can improve NN performance on UTS data.

Abstract

In modern agriculture, quickly identifying agricultural pests is essential for maintaining high crop yields and ensuring global food security. In diverse and dynamic agricultural environments, traditional pest detection methods exhibit reduced accuracy, limited scalability, and lack interpretability. In this study, EfficientNetV2-L and Grad-CAM were used to significantly enhance pest detection system performance and transparency. EfficientNetV2-L, a fast and resource-efficient model, excels particularly in computationally constrained environments. Traditional CNN models, including EfficientNetV2-L, are criticized as uninterpretable "black boxes" despite their high accuracy. To address this issue, Grad-CAM was used to generate salient maps that visually show the most influential areas of the input image in the model’s decision-making process. This combination not only provides superior pest detection accuracy but also provides actionable insights into the model’s predictions, which is an important feature for building trust among agricultural practitioners. Our experimental results show a 15% improvement in detection accuracy compared to conventional models, especially in identifying visually similar-looking pest species that are often misclassified. In addition, the enhanced interpretability provided by Grad-CAM has led to a deeper understanding of the model’s behaviour, enabling iterative adjustments and improvements that further enhance the reliability of the system. The practical implications of these findings are significant: this integrated model offers a robust solution that can be seamlessly applied to real-time agricultural monitoring systems. With the early detection and proper classification of pests, this model can be used as a more effective pest management strategy to minimize crop damage and increase agricultural productivity. This research not only advances the technological frontier of pest detection but also contributes to broader goals related to sustainable agriculture and food security. Future research will focus on expanding the applicability of this model across different agricultural contexts, improving its adaptability to different environmental conditions, and further optimizing its performance through advanced techniques such as transfer learning and ensemble methods.

Abstract

Attendance fraud is often found in the presence of fake attendance from students. To overcome this problem, we apply the Haar-Like Feature Cascade method as the basis for building a face attendance system based on the Cognitive Internet of Things (CIoT). The proposed system works by representing local intensity patterns on the face image so that it will recognize students even from various frontal positions. The results of this research show a precise student face recognition that is able to recognize faces well. The conclusion of this research is that the Haar-like Feature Cascade method is able to detect faces precisely and can be used as a basis for developing student attendance technology based on the Cognitive Internet of Things.

Abstract

Genting Village, Semarang, has great potential for mushroom cultivation thanks to geographical and climatic conditions that favour healthy mushroom growth. Although farm women have been actively involved in mushroom cultivation in this village, they often face obstacles in terms of access to resources, knowledge, and marketing of mushroom-based processed food products. To overcome this problem, we, UKM Hizbul Wathan, in the PPK Ormawa 2023 grant activity, propose training and mentoring in the manufacture and marketing of mushroom-based food in Genting Village. The method we use is SWOT analysis, used to identify strengths, weaknesses, threats, and development strategies in overcoming the problems of the mushroom farmer women's group in Genting Village. Strengths include favourable geographical conditions for mushroom cultivation, participation of women farmers, and unique local wisdom. Meanwhile, the main weaknesses are limited access to resources and knowledge. Opportunities in diversification of mushroom-based food products and increasing consumer awareness about healthy food should be utilised. Threats include market competition and climate change. The discussion focuses on strategies for developing training programmes to improve farm women's knowledge and skills, effective marketing efforts, and partnership opportunities with external parties. The results of this study show that mentoring and training in mushroom-based food processing can create new economic opportunities, increase the income of farm women, and support sustainable development in Genting Village.
