Abstract

This study explores the narrative of anti-capitalism through the perspective of Islamic political movements by comparing the Hizb ut-Tahrir movement in Indonesia and Malaysia. Capitalism has been a global topic of conversation with diverse impacts on societies, both positive and negative. However, criticisms have emerged due to the various damages and social impacts experienced in different countries. This research investigates how Hizb ut-Tahrir in Indonesia and Malaysia responds to the impact of capitalism in their respective countries through the lens of Islamic ideology. The study employs a qualitative approach with comparative analysis techniques, utilizing data collected from documents and literature related to the Hizb ut-Tahrir movement in both countries. The results reveal that Hizb ut-Tahrir in Indonesia and Malaysia views capitalism as a system incompatible with Islamic principles. They critique the capitalist system for fostering injustice, inequality, and the oppression of marginalized populations. Additionally, Hizb ut-Tahrir in Indonesia and Malaysia propose alternative Islamic-based economic systems as solutions to global economic problems.

Abstract

Developments from time to time affect significant changes in women, one of which is their position in society to get a job. Such women are called working women. This study examines women workers in the Qur'an using the thematic method and maqāṣidi interpretation as its approach. This research focuses on Q.S al-Qaṣaṣ [28] : 23 and Q.S al-Aḥzāb [33] : This research is a literature review with the primary sources of tafsir al-Qurthubi, tafsir Jalālain, and tafsir al-Munir. The conclusion of this study indicates that the verse describes the permissibility of women working as long as they maintain their honor. In addition, women are also not allowed to be excessive in adornment. While from the findings regarding the aspects of maqāṣid al-syarī'ah and the fundamental values of the Qur'an, the author finds a prominent aspect which is hifdzu nafs, because in this verse it is explained that the two women protect themselves from being crowded with other herders by waiting for the herders to finish at the water source, there is also a value of equality that stands out because it shows the equal position between men and women in terms of work. If contextualized in this day and age, women are allowed to work to fill their spare time and develop their skills. The wisdom that can be learned is that women can utilize their time by doing useful work, and work to meet their needs as long as they pay attention to the conditions when working.

Abstract

This article aims to provide an insightful examination of strategies for addressing anxiety disorder based on interpretations of the Qur’an. In Indonesia, the prevalence of anxiety is alarmingly high, with 9,162,886 reported cases of depression in the past two years alone. Given the Qur’an’s revered status as a guidance book, exploring its teachings on anxiety is essential to address this pressing issue. Employing a qualitative research approach focused on a literature review, this study draws from various sources, including scholarly books and articles. The research outcomes highlight several theoretical frameworks derived from the Qur’an for tackling anxiety, such as (1) mindfulness—a meditative therapy aimed at clearing the mind of negative experiences and redirecting focus toward positivity; (2) cognitive therapy—recalibrating one’s mindset toward optimistic perspectives, and (3) fostering resilient attitudes by steadfastly confronting adversities.Keyword: Anxiety Disorder; al-Qur’an; Exegesis

Abstract

Religious extremism is a serious problem and is hampering the realization of a Golden Indonesia in 2045. It was born because of errors in understanding religion, especially its holy books. In order to weaken its influence, countering the narrative of extremism from an interpretive perspective is urgent, and at the same time it is also necessary to strengthen Islamic moderation as an alternative narrative. Using the descriptive-analytical method, it was concluded: first, the form of narrative of extremism that is often used by hardline groups is about taghut, satan and the caliphate. Second, the counter narrative to extremism is to present a different narrative and reject extremist views about these terms from the perspective of Al-Qur'an interpretation. Third, Islamic moderation as an alternative narrative to extremism finds its source of understanding in the Koran, both regarding the nature of Islamic moderation and its forms. Abstract

Psychology has provided a significant effect in describing human behavior in the modern era. However, despite the extensive development of theories in modern psychology, this field of science still needs to improve in terms of terminology, epistemology, and worldview. One of the Muslim psychologists who criticized this problem was Utsman Najati. This research was library research, and the data sources consisted of primary data sources from Utsman Najati's works related to Psychology, and secondary data sources, namely in the form of books, which were relevant to this research to strengthen arguments and to complement data from research results. The data analysis technique used by the authors in this study was content analysis. The findings obtained from this paper were as follows: First, Utsman Najati revealed the disparity between the terms of psychology and research objects which were limited to behavior; Second, Utsman Najati uncovered the problem of the epistemology of psychology, which limited itself to empirical things; Third, a materialistic and atheist perspective in several schools of modern psychology contradicted the Islamic view of life.

Abstract

In various regions of Indonesia, cultural communication disputes are frequent, and the very existence of culture serves as a symbol for preserving that culture. Differences in beliefs are the source of conflict during cultural inculturation at the Saparan Bekakak traditional event; as a result, communication issues need to be resolved for the sake of culture, existence, and sustainability. The Ambarketawang Village, Sleman Regency, residents, and the village government were interviewed, observed, and documented in this descriptive qualitative research method. First, this study found community conflicts over how the Saparan Bekakak traditional event made communicating difficult for people with different cultural beliefs. Second, differences in interpretation of the Saparan Bekakak event make cultural inculturation a problem; third, the non-verbal arguments that arise from the symbols used in the traditional Saparan Bekakak event; fourth, the village government's role as an arbitrator or communicator in resolving Saparan Bekakak-related communication disputes. The disagreement over communication will be resolved, preventing any misinterpretation of meaning and preserving the traditional culture of Saparan Bekakak.

Abstract

This research examines the hidden intentions of Chinese Muslim diversity in the Kediri Residency. The Kediri Chinese Muslims are theologically unique in their social-religious affiliation and religious motives. This study aims to explore the religious practices of the Chinese Muslims in Kediri, their theological features, fiqh references, interpretations, and political affiliations so that the theological characteristics of Chinese Muslims can be identified clearly. This research uses Paul Ricoeur's Critical Phenomenology approach with reflective analysis as the main feature to dissect the intention of awareness of the direction of their religion. The result of this research is that the style of appreciation practiced by Chinese Ethnic Muslims is more directed toward the practical life of religion. PITI provides a space for community-based expression, while Cheng Ho symbolizes unifying the Chinese Muslim ethnicity in Kediri. The spiritual practices carried out are more representative of Sharia and community-based social interactions, paying little attention to the realm of Sufism or Philosophy. The existence of the Chinese Muslim Ethnicity for a long time has significantly impacted the political situation in favor of Indonesia. At the same time, religious affiliation has also significantly impacted the community so that it has a more expansive religious space.

Abstract

The accusation of Islamic boarding schools as hotbeds of terrorism is still a phenomenal issue. This is contrary to the values of Islamic boarding schools which uphold peace. This study aims to narrate the implications of peace education in Islamic boarding schools in responding to the issue of terrorism. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies to be analyzed using Miles and Huberman's model. This research shows: (1) Teaching materials (textbooks) and Al-Irsyad Islamic Boarding School regulations direct students to an ideology that is highly anti-terrorism, this data is taken from the description of the responses that researchers see from the side of perception with convincing statements that peace is a nature that must be attempted, either with a theological or rational approach. This response was strengthened by the views of the management and students who stated that peace is a common property so that all acts of terrorism are not part of Jihad. (2) Santri's response to terrorism has implications for strengthening social solidarity, building tasamuh attitudes, establishing mutual assistance, being fair and wise, and understanding diversity. The second result contributes to fighting accusations of Islamic boarding schools as hotbeds of terrorism, while simultaneously confirming that peace education in Islamic boarding schools can be used as a model for public schools in fighting terrorism issues.
