Abstract

The research aims to examine and describe how the symbols contained in the architecture of the Lautze 2 Mosque function as a medium of cultural communication. Using Peirce's semiotics approach, this study analyzes the visual and structural elements of mosques that reflect the cultural and religious values of the community. The mosque is unique in that it combines two different cultural traditions in one sacred building. This phenomenon raises questions about how communication and cultural symbols are integrated into the architecture of mosques and what their implications are for the identity of the community. The research uses a qualitative method with semiotic analysis, where data is collected through direct observation and literature study. The results of the analysis show that the existing symbols, such as building shapes, ornaments, and colors, not only serve as aesthetic elements but also convey deep moral and spiritual messages. The research identified three categories of signs according to Peirce: icons, indexes, and symbols, each of which has an important role in establishing the architectural meaning of mosques. The elements analyzed include the front façade, pulpit, calligraphy, and mosque partition ornaments. The results of the study show that 1) Mosque architecture integrates Islamic and Chinese cultural symbols, creating a visual narrative of intercultural harmony and inclusivity, 2) The combination of Islamic and Chinese elements presents a unique cultural synthesis, and 3) The existence of the Lautze 2 Mosque affirms the identity of Chinese Muslims while conveying the message of intercultural harmony in Indonesia.

Abstract

Technology development has a significant impact on innovation in the development of museum education services, including virtual museum tours. One of the functions of the museum is as a source of virtual learning supported by visual, and audiovisual teaching materials, and interactive communication. Presenting the museum experience in the classroom online can be an alternative solution that is interesting, effective, and fun in developing learning media. The Indonesian Karst Museum is one of the treasures owned by prehistoric museums in Indonesia, especially in Central Java Province, beside the Sangiran Museum. This museum is an educational museum that presents the distribution of karst both in Indonesia and around the world. This museum displays how karst was formed, as well as the characteristics and phenomena of karst, reviewing its relationship to the evolution of human life from prehistoric times to the present. The Indonesian Karst Museum was established to preserve the existence of the Eco Karst area and the Gunung Sewu Global Geopark. Optimizing the virtual tour of the Indonesian Karst Museum as an alternative medium for learning history is expected to be an effective solution in developing a history learning medium that is easily accessible to students. This aims to introduce museums to students amidst the limitations of direct visits.

Abstract

The low awareness of Generation Z towards cultural heritage poses a potential threat to its preservation and utilization in the future. The lack of education about the values and history of cultural heritage is one of the main factors contributing to the youth's lack of awareness about the importance of cultural preservation. Banjarmasin, as a city with rich cultural heritage, requires innovation in the dissemination of cultural information and education to remain relevant to the younger generation. This study aims to develop the digitalization of cultural heritage based on flipbooks as an effort to provide easier access to information about Banjarmasin's cultural heritage. The research method used is a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis through observation, literature review, and interviews with relevant stakeholders, including the community, academics, and policymakers. The results of the study show that flipbook-based digitalization can be an effective strategy in raising awareness and understanding among Generation Z about cultural heritage. Digital flipbooks allow for the presentation of information in a more interactive, engaging, and easily accessible manner, which can increase Generation Z's interest in understanding and preserving local culture. Furthermore, digitalization also contributes to the preservation of cultural heritage by documenting historical information more systematically and sustainably. This research contributes to the development of digital-based education strategies for cultural preservation and opens up opportunities for further innovation in the use of digital technology in education and culture. Thus, the digitalization of cultural heritage through flipbooks not only serves as an educational medium but also as a concrete effort to maintain the continuity of cultural heritage in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Instagram account @historiadotid as a medium for historical literacy in the digital era. The background of this study is the shift in the way people, especially the younger generation, access historical information from conventional media to social media. The research uses the netnography method, through analyzing the posts, captions, and responses of the account's followers. The results show that @historiadotid consistently uploads daily content in the form of infographics and video reels that present history in a visual, concise and educative manner. The communicative narrative style, the use of credible sources, and the two-way interaction between account managers and followers show that social media can be an inclusive and critical means of learning history. Followers' responses in the form of appreciation, discussion and clarification indicate the existence of a dialogical historical literacy space in the digital realm. The main contribution of this research is to provide an understanding of the strategy of using social media in strengthening historical literacy. The implication is that social media, especially Instagram, has the potential to become an inclusive, participatory and contextual history education space, especially for young people who are attached to digital culture.

Abstract

The study examines the integration of reflective pedagogy and eco-pedagogy in the construction of historical causality, with a focus on building environmental awareness and values through an understanding of cultural landscapes in history education. The phenomenon of environmental unconsciousness in history education has become a primary urgency for the development of an educational model that combines critical reflection and ecological values. This approach aims to cultivate critical attitudes and ecological awareness among students by leveraging relevant historical and local cultural contexts. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques including literature review, observation, and interviews. The results of the study show that the integration of these pedagogies is effective in deepening understanding of historical causality while instilling ecological values and preserving local culture as a medium for meaningful learning. The implications of this study encourage innovation in history learning that not only teaches historical causality but also builds critical ecological awareness and cultural values. These findings contribute to the development of new models of history learning that are environmentally and culturally aware.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of globalization on the indigenous knowledge system of the Kuta Village community in Ciamis and the adaptation strategies they employ to maintain cultural resilience and environmental sustainability. Using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis, the research finds that the community integrates traditional rules (pamali), sacred forest preservation rituals, cultural education, and selective use of environmentally friendly technologies. Traditional institutions act as key mediators between tradition and modernization, ensuring sustainable use of natural resources. These strategies not only preserve cultural identity but also strengthen the ecological functions of the customary territory. The findings highlight that local wisdom-based adaptation can effectively respond to globalization pressures without sacrificing core values. The study recommends formal recognition and policy support for indigenous knowledge systems as vital social capital for sustainable development.

Abstract

This study explores the mechanisms of historical value transmission within the Baduy indigenous community as a form of collective memory transmission and cultural resistance to modernization. The primary aim of this research is to analyze how oral traditions, cultural practices, and social structures contribute to shaping collective consciousness and preserving community identity. A qualitative approach was employed using a library research method, utilizing various relevant literature sources as primary data. The findings indicate that the transmission of historical values in the Baduy society occurs through non-formal education patterns based on direct experience, social interaction, and ritual practices, with strong support from customary institutions and the role of women within the family. Resistance to formal education and modern technology is presented not as a sign of backwardness, but as a cultural strategy to maintain the integrity of values and identity. This study emphasizes the importance of historical value transmission as an active mechanism that shapes cultural continuity and provides social resilience for the community. Its implications include enriching the discourse on cultural preservation among indigenous communities through a deeper understanding of value transmission patterns grounded in oral traditions and everyday practices, as exemplified by the Baduy people, and serving as a basis for formulating more culturally responsive policies.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the dynamics of the Maung Pande martial arts school in Menes Subdistrict, Pandeglang Regency, from 2005 to 2020, and to explain the functions of Pencak Silat as an art, tradition, and martial practice. The research method used is the historical method, which includes heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The findings show that the Maung Pande martial arts school was founded in 1975 by Abah Kemed and Abah Asmail, based on the Cimande style of silat, with the purpose of fostering silat practitioners in Pandeglang Regency in particular. The term Maung Pande means “Excellent Human of Pandeglang” and the school has grown to 240 branches across Indonesia, with 32 branches in Pandeglang Regency and 3 in Menes Subdistrict. Since its official establishment in 2005 until 2020, Pencak Silat in the Maung Pande school has undergone a transformation, serving as a medium for sports, spiritual and mental education, martial knowledge, an art with aesthetic movement values, as well as community entertainment during weddings, circumcision ceremonies, and cultural festivals. This reflects the transformation of the functions of the Maung Pande martial arts school. However, in 2020 the school experienced a decline due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which hampered its activities as a result of large-scale social restrictions aimed at preventing the spread of the virus.
