Abstract

COVID-19 pandemic left so much unknown and unexplored knowledge in the field of Positive Psychology. This systematic literature review (SLR) aims to identify the factors that can predict posttraumatic growth after the traumatic exposure of COVID-19 pandemic. This SLR employed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, with article selection criteria formulated using the Populations, Exposure, Outcomes, and Study Design (PEOS) framework. This SLR found that the only consistent external predictive factor for PTG is social support, while the consistent internal factors from inside the individual are self-efficacy, resilience, adaptive coping, and rumination. Emotional creativity and psychological flexibility were other internal factors considered as predictors.   The demographic factors which are considered can predict PTG are being female, age, and economic status. The results of this literature review found that most studies on predictors for PTG came from the geographical setting of China, with Cross-Sectional as the most preferred study design. Findings from this SLR contribute to future research agenda concerning study design and geographical setting, as well as mental health promotion to increase PTG in the community after years of COVID-19 pandemic. Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the education sector and caused stress for first-year students who have to adapt to a period of continence in higher education. Students can deal with stress using coping methods, but the coping mechanisms they choose may not always reduce stress. Coping strategies are not the only way to deal with stress; perceived social support also contribute to students’ stress levels. This study aims to determine the role of perceived social support as a mediator between coping and stress in first-year students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using the cluster random sampling technique , 437 first-year students were selected, comprising 111 men and 326 women, as participants. The instruments for data collection were DASS-21, Brief COPE-28, and ISEL-16. The data were analyzed using the Sobel test technique. The indirect effect results show that perceived social support is a mediator between problem-focused coping (PFC) with stress (p < 0.001; β = -0.027), emotion-focused coping (EFC) with stress (p < 0.001; β = -0.020), and avoidant coping (AVC) with stress (p < 0.001; β = 0.035). Perceived social support has a full mediation effect on the relationship between PFC and stress, the relationship between EFC and stress, and a partial mediation effect on the relationship between AVC and stress. PFC and EFC will not be able to play a significant role in reducing stress levels if there is no perception of social support. This study provides findings that when first-year students use AVC, the environment needs to provide positive social support. Therefore, the role of AVC is reduced and stress levels are reduced. The findings of the mediating role of perceived social support are beneficial because they provide empirical evidence for theoretical and practical implications. Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate how well marriage counseling employs group dynamics and desensitization techniques to lessen prospective brides' and grooms' anxiety. An ABA design is used in this single-subject study. Four people participated in this study: two prospective brides and two prospective grooms. Descriptive analysis is added to visual analysis, also known as visual inspection, in data analysis. The study's findings demonstrate that systematic desensitization techniques combined with relaxation therapy can effectively lower prospective brides' and grooms' anxiety levels. The outcomes both before and after treatment demonstrate this. Counselors and other caregivers may utilize this method as an alternative to help prospective brides and grooms feel less anxious. Abstract

The primary objective of this research was to investigate the influence of storytelling as a pedagogical approach on the development of empathy in a group of bilingual kindergarten students. To achieve this, an experimental research design was employed, utilizing a one-group pretest-posttest comparative methodology. The study involved 12 bilingual kindergarten students; all of them were part of the experimental group. An initial examination of descriptive statistical data revealed that the average pretest score was 43.08, which increased to 45.00 in the post-test, indicating a notable improvement in the student's scores. Further statistical analysis, specifically the Wilcoxon test, confirmed the significance of the impact of storytelling on the students' empathy levels. The test resulted in a significance value of p = 0.002 (p < 0.01), providing compelling evidence that storytelling as a teaching method had a substantial and positive effect on enhancing empathy in bilingual kindergarten students. These findings suggest that incorporating storytelling into the curriculum can be a valuable tool in nurturing empathy in young learners, with potential implications for enhancing their social and emotional development. Abstract

Generally, the workforce is dominated by men, but data from the Statistics Indonesia highlight a different trend in Surabaya City as the number of working women is increasing. These working women also include married women who have responsibilities both at work and in their families. The relationship between these two responsibilities is often negatively viewed. The work-family enrichment theory explains that there are positive contributions that can be made between these two roles. The theory suggests that psychological factors contribute to the formation of work-family enrichment. Providing an overview of the contributions of optimism and self-efficacy to work-family enrichment is the aim of this study. It involved 120 working women in Surabaya City. Its research subjects were married women, aged between 20 and 39 years, had been working for at least 1 year, and worked full-time for a standard workday of 8 hours or 40 hours per week. The samplings of this study were obtained by convenience sampling. It utilized the Work-family Enrichment Scale (36 items, α=0.97), the Optimism Scale (10 items, α=0.63), and the Self-efficacy Scale (8 items, α=0.86). A multiple linear regression was implemented to test the hypotheses of this study. It reveals a positive relationship between optimism & self-efficacy and work-family enrichment. Self-efficacy and optimism together accounted for 63.1% of their contribution. It suggests the importance for the working wives to develop their optimism and self-efficacy to increase work-family enrichment and achieve a satisfactory balance between work and family. Abstract

A systematic review on promoting forgiveness in addressing victimization analyzed 36 studies selected from 72 articles retrieved from the Scopus database spanning the years 2004 to 2023. Included articles were required to be in English, present at least an abstract, not be review articles themselves, and focus on forgiveness among victims of bullying. Critical factors influencing forgiveness identified in the literature encompass the nature of bullying, the presence of justice and punishment, empathy, timing of interventions, personal beliefs, and cognitive processes. Age-related differences also emerged as significant, necessitating tailored approaches for children, adolescents, and adults. Proposed strategies include implementing restorative justice initiatives for children, employing avoidance strategies for adolescents, and recognizing the religious dimensions for adults. Integrating forgiveness-oriented programs in educational settings, parenting practices, and workplace training is essential for shifting victims' negative perceptions toward positive outcomes. Abstract

Depression, anxiety, and stress in adolescents require therapy as these conditions are likely to cause harm to both the individuals experiencing them and their surroundings. Therefore, it is important to create an intervention for this age group. E-Group Art Journal Therapy is an intervention which involves art as its approach and is conducted in groups through an online platform, Zoom Meeting. In this study, ten participants were divided into two groups: the control group and the experimental group. Participants were recruited through non-random sampling using these criteria: they were required to be active students, reside in Bali, be between 18-23 years old, have a moderate level of stress, moderate level of anxiety, low level of depression based on Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS), and agree to participate in the study. This study employed a mixed method which produced both quantitative and qualitative data that were analyzed with Wilcoxon rank-sum test and theoretical coding. The results showed that there were score differences between the control group and the experimental group in terms of depression, anxiety, and stress levels. Qualitatively, there were also psychological changes among the five participants from the experimental group. Implementing an intervention in groups could be beneficial because the group activities created mutual situations. Creating artwork also contributed to therapeutic processes. Quantitatively, there was a significant decrease in depression score. Qualitatively, E-GAJT encouraged the participants to believe in their potential despite their upbringing in an unsupportive environment. This encouragement fostered greater courage, enabling them to take steps toward achieving goals and creating healthier boundaries. Keyword: Adolescent, DASS; group; psychotherapy; virtual.

Abstract

A family crisis refers to the incapability or disorganization of a family due to resource scarcity and negative perception of stressors. This study aims to describe familial responses to a crisis, particularly in the context of sexual trafficking. A qualitative method was used with an instrumental case study approach. Participants were five family members of sexual trafficking victims in East Java, Indonesia. Data were collected from semi-structured interviews to allow in-depth inquiries and then analyzed using a bottom-up thematic analysis. Data source triangulation, theory triangulation, and member-checking were conducted to support the convergence of the data. The results depicted psychological, physiological, social, and relational strains as familial responses to sexual trafficking. The study recommends future research to, first, explore resources that can contribute to building resilient families, and second, develop family-based interventions for professionals dealing with trafficking victims. Abstract

People with non-congenital physical disabilities experience many psychological challenges, including the emergence of negative thoughts. The study aims to identify the relationship between gratitude and resilience as mediated by positive thinking in non-congenital disabled people. The research subjects were 34 people with non-congenital disabilities, men and women, aged 21 - 55 years old. Data collection used three scales developed by the researchers, namely the Gratitude scale, Positive Thinking scale, and Resilience scale. Data was analyzed using simple regression, the causal step method developed by Baron & Kenny (1986), and the Sobel test. The analysis results showed that (1) there was a positive relationship between gratitude and resilience in non-congenital disabled people, indicating that the higher the gratitude, the higher the resilience. (2) There was a positive relationship between positive thinking and resilience in a non-congenital disabled person, indicating that the greater the positive thinking, the greater the resilience. (3) There was a positive relationship between gratitude and positive thinking in non-congenital disabled people, indicating that the greater the gratitude, the greater the positive thinking, and conversely the lower the gratitude, the lower the positive thinking. (4) There was a positive relationship between gratitude and resilience, mediated by positive thinking in non-congenital disabled people. Positive thinking entirely functions as a mediator and has a significant indirect relationship between gratitude and resilience, where gratitude influences positive thinking first, then positive thinking influences resilience in this study’s samples of non-congenital disabled people. Keyword: Positive thinking; gratitude; resilience; non-congenital disabilities.

Abstract

Parents have to nurture a good relationship with adolescents to avert self-harmful behavior and suicidal ideation, which increasingly happen. This research aims to understand the effect of parent-child relationships on self-harm behavior and suicidal ideation. The subjects of this study are 1063 junior high school (JHS) and senior high school (SHS) students in Tarakanita Foundation (TF). This research is a double linear regression based on the t-test and f-test, which use the t-table and f-table. This research shows a significant effect between parent-child relationships and self-harmful behavior. A good, safe, and loving relationship with parents can prevent adolescents from self-harmful behavior and suicidal ideation. On the other hand, a disharmonious relationship between parents and adolescents, such as an experience of violence, feeling depressed, and a traumatic experience in the family, is why adolescents harm themselves and have suicidal ideation. Based on this study, parents are expected to nurture a good relationship with their children. The benefit of research is that it provides parents with a good understanding of the dangers of self-harm behavior and how to handle it appropriately by parents or professionals who can help parents deal with self-harm behavior in their adolescence. This research is also useful as the information that the importance of building strong and healthy relationships with children is becoming increasingly important; thus, appropriate behavior.
