Abstract

Depression, anxiety, and stress in adolescents require therapy as these conditions are likely to cause harm to both the individuals experiencing them and their surroundings. Therefore, it is important to create an intervention for this age group. E-Group Art Journal Therapy is an intervention which involves art as its approach and is conducted in groups through an online platform, Zoom Meeting. In this study, ten participants were divided into two groups: the control group and the experimental group. Participants were recruited through non-random sampling using these criteria: they were required to be active students, reside in Bali, be between 18-23 years old, have a moderate level of stress, moderate level of anxiety, low level of depression based on Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS), and agree to participate in the study. This study employed a mixed method which produced both quantitative and qualitative data that were analyzed with Wilcoxon rank-sum test and theoretical coding. The results showed that there were score differences between the control group and the experimental group in terms of depression, anxiety, and stress levels. Qualitatively, there were also psychological changes among the five participants from the experimental group. Implementing an intervention in groups could be beneficial because the group activities created mutual situations. Creating artwork also contributed to therapeutic processes. Quantitatively, there was a significant decrease in depression score. Qualitatively, E-GAJT encouraged the participants to believe in their potential despite their upbringing in an unsupportive environment. This encouragement fostered greater courage, enabling them to take steps toward achieving goals and creating healthier boundaries. Keyword: Adolescent, DASS; group; psychotherapy; virtual.

Abstract

A family crisis refers to the incapability or disorganization of a family due to resource scarcity and negative perception of stressors. This study aims to describe familial responses to a crisis, particularly in the context of sexual trafficking. A qualitative method was used with an instrumental case study approach. Participants were five family members of sexual trafficking victims in East Java, Indonesia. Data were collected from semi-structured interviews to allow in-depth inquiries and then analyzed using a bottom-up thematic analysis. Data source triangulation, theory triangulation, and member-checking were conducted to support the convergence of the data. The results depicted psychological, physiological, social, and relational strains as familial responses to sexual trafficking. The study recommends future research to, first, explore resources that can contribute to building resilient families, and second, develop family-based interventions for professionals dealing with trafficking victims. Keywords:Sexual trafficking victims; experience of families; crisis.

Abstract

Following the postulations of the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) theory and the Conversation of Resources (COR) theory, this study examined the relationships between job demands and job performance of business educators with work burnout as a mediator. A nonexperimental quantitative research design was used to achieve the specific purpose of the study. The participants consisted of 142 business educators (12 HODs and 130 lecturers). The instruments for data collection was a structured questionnaire, adapted from existing psychological scales. The instruments were validated by three experts, two in Business Education and one in Measurement and Evaluation. Cronbach’s alpha was used to obtain the reliability values for each scale: job demands (α = 0.84), work burnout (α = 0.73) and job performance (α = 0.95). Data collected were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation, linear regression and bias corrected and accelerated regression statistics. The findings revealed that job demands positively predicted work burnout and negatively predicted job performance; work burnout negatively predicted job performance, and work burnout significantly mediated the relationships between job demands and poor job performance. The authors recommended, among others, that university managers and administrators should endeavour to create a conducive, resourceful and motivated working environment as this will provide opportunity for business educators to surmount work burnout, which would eventually lead business educators to perform effectively on the job. Keyword: Business educators; job demands; job performance; public Universities; work burnout.

Abstract

People with non-congenital physical disabilities experience many psychological challenges, including the emergence of negative thoughts. The study aims to identify the relationship between gratitude and resilience as mediated by positive thinking in non-congenital disabled people. The research subjects were 34 people with non-congenital disabilities, men and women, aged 21 - 55 years old. Data collection used three scales developed by the researchers, namely the Gratitude scale, Positive Thinking scale, and Resilience scale. Data was analyzed using simple regression, the causal step method developed by Baron & Kenny (1986), and the Sobel test. The analysis results showed that (1) there was a positive relationship between gratitude and resilience in non-congenital disabled people, indicating that the higher the gratitude, the higher the resilience. (2) There was a positive relationship between positive thinking and resilience in a non-congenital disabled person, indicating that the greater the positive thinking, the greater the resilience. (3) There was a positive relationship between gratitude and positive thinking in non-congenital disabled people, indicating that the greater the gratitude, the greater the positive thinking, and conversely the lower the gratitude, the lower the positive thinking. (4) There was a positive relationship between gratitude and resilience, mediated by positive thinking in non-congenital disabled people. Positive thinking entirely functions as a mediator and has a significant indirect relationship between gratitude and resilience, where gratitude influences positive thinking first, then positive thinking influences resilience in this study’s samples of non-congenital disabled people. Keyword: Positive thinking; gratitude; resilience; non-congenital disabilities.

Abstract

Parents have to nurture a good relationship with adolescents to avert self-harmful behavior and suicidal ideation, which increasingly happen. This research aims to understand the effect of parent-child relationships on self-harm behavior and suicidal ideation. The subjects of this study are 1063 junior high school (JHS) and senior high school (SHS) students in Tarakanita Foundation (TF). This research is a double linear regression based on the t-test and f-test, which use the t-table and f-table. This research shows a significant effect between parent-child relationships and self-harmful behavior. A good, safe, and loving relationship with parents can prevent adolescents from self-harmful behavior and suicidal ideation. On the other hand, a disharmonious relationship between parents and adolescents, such as an experience of violence, feeling depressed, and a traumatic experience in the family, is why adolescents harm themselves and have suicidal ideation. Based on this study, parents are expected to nurture a good relationship with their children. The benefit of research is that it provides parents with a good understanding of the dangers of self-harm behavior and how to handle it appropriately by parents or professionals who can help parents deal with self-harm behavior in their adolescence. This research is also useful as the information that the importance of building strong and healthy relationships with children is becoming increasingly important; thus, appropriate behavior. Abstract

Psychological wellbeing is crucial for adults, as it impacts their mental and physical health, social relationships, work, personal growth, resilience, and overall life satisfaction. The objective of this study is to thoroughly examine the correlation between gratitude and its dimensions with the psychological wellbeing of adult women, with meaning of life as a mediator. Participants in this study were 270 middle-aged women aged between 40-60 years, Muslim, and domiciled in Padang Terubuk Village, Senapelan Sub-district, Pekanbaru City, Riau Province using incidental sampling technique. The measurement instruments used were the psychological wellbeing scale, gratitude scale, and meaning of life scale. The data analysis technique used was mediation regression analysis using bootstrapping of the PROCESS macro-Hayes. The research results indicate that gratitude can positively contribute to psychological wellbeing, both directly and when mediated by meaning of life. The contribution of gratitude to psychological wellbeing is greater when mediated by meaning of life compared to when correlated directly. This implies that when individuals express gratitude for their lives, their lives become more meaningful, ultimately resulting in psychological wellbeing. Abstract

Manual performance appraisal techniques are not adaptive to developments in information technology, and this is considered a flaw. This study aims to create and evaluate the e-MBO performance assessment system. This study was conducted in The Palembang Therapy Center (PTC). The sample consisted of 21 employees who were selected using purposive sampling techniques. Employees who have been working for at least a year were the inclusion criteria. Furthermore, this study uses a research and development (R&D) methodology referring to the Richey & Klein concept, consisting of model development, internal validation, and external validation. The R&D results found that there were no issues when using the e-MBO employee performance assessment approach. Therefore, the research hypothesis stating that the e-MBO instrument effectively assesses employee performance is accepted. Furthermore, effective implementation of e-MBO can improve employee performance. The e-MBO assessment system can enhance employee performance through improved accuracy, discipline, work quality, and technical skills. Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of dhikr therapy on reducing psychopathological symptoms. A total of 18 hypertensive patients, who were separated into two groups, including experimental and control, were selected as the participants. The experimental group (n = 9) received the therapy, while the control group (n = 9) was sent to the waiting list. All participants were given Brief Symptoms Inventory (BSI) to measure psychopathological symptoms before the therapy (pretest), after therapy (posttest), and during a two-week follow-up test. Data analysis using the Mann-Whitney U showed a substantial reduction in the symptoms with Z = -3.339 and p = 0.000. The results supported the hypothesis that dhikr therapy improved psychopathological symptoms. In conclusion, this study suggested that spiritual therapy played an important role in reducing psychological symptoms. Keyword: Dhikr therapy; psychopathological symptom.

Abstract

School-aged children are at risk of becoming victims of sexual abuse, highlighting the need for early self-protection programs. These programs should provide knowledge, training, and assertive actions as part of preventive psychoeducation for children. Studies show that between 20% and 33% of girls and 10% to 16% of boys will experience sexual abuse before reaching 18 years old. The Self-Protection Model aims to serve as an early protection program by equipping children with the knowledge to recognize and identify sexual abuse. This study employed a quasi-experimental method with a quantitative approach. The sampling method used was purposive sampling on 20 subjects consisting of male and female students who met the following criteria: aged 9-12 years and elementary school students. The measurement tools used were assertiveness scale and knowledge scale. The analysis using the non-parametric Wilcoxon test, demonstrated that the self-protection model significantly contributes to children's knowledge and assertive behavior in response to sexual violence. Efforts to prevent sexual violence should be directed at children, emphasizing the importance of providing knowledge and examples of assertive behavior. This study's findings indicated a significant improvement in children's knowledge and assertive behavior following the implementation of the Self Protection Model intervention, thereby empowering them to apply the newly acquired skills as a preventive strategy against sexual violence.
