Abstract

Education requires an innovative approach to improve students' thinking skills, one of which is through the Self-Directed Learning (SDL) method. The researcher's aim in conducting this research was to find out how the implementation of the self-directed learning method improves students' thinking skills at SMA Fatahillah Jakarta.This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation involving grade XI students and Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study showed that students' critical, creative, and analytical thinking skills increased after the application of the SDL method. Students are given autonomy to choose teaching materials, set learning objectives, and choose the right learning resources, which fosters greater independence, responsibility, and motivation in learning. The application of the SDL method shows a positive impact on the development of students' high-level thinking skills at SMA Fatahillah Jakarta.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Sufism in shaping the strong religious character of the Muslimat Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in Kasengan Hamlet, Sumberkatimoho Village. A resilient religious character is essential amid social dynamics and the challenges of modern times. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with observation, interviews, and documentation methods. The findings show that Sufi practices such as dzikir, tahlil, shalawat, and khotmil Qur’an, regularly carried out by the Muslimat NU, contribute significantly to forming patient, humble, disciplined, and compassionate characters. Sufism serves not only as spiritual teaching but also as a powerful tool for moral and social development. Through religious activities rooted in Sufi values, the Muslimat NU in Kasengan Hamlet have become role models within their community. This study highlights that Sufism plays a crucial role in forming a religious personality that is not only spiritually devoted but also resilient in facing various social life challenges.

Abstract

The Nyadran tradition, as part of the local culture of Sumberdawe Village, not only has social dimensions but also contains spiritual values closely related to the teachings of Sufism in Islam. This study aims to examine how Sufi values are manifested in the implementation of the Nyadran tradition and how this tradition plays a role in shaping the spiritual awareness of the community. The main problem in this study is the lack of understanding among the community about the esoteric meaning (batiniah) of the Nyadran tradition, which is often only seen as a ritual inherited from ancestors. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach with observation techniques and in-depth interviews. The results show that the Nyadran tradition contains Sufi values such as ikhlas (sincerity of heart), tawakal (submission to Allah), zuhud (simple living), and mahabbah (love for others and ancestors). These values are reflected in the practice of charity, joint prayer, pilgrimage to graves, and the spirit of community togetherness. The conclusion of this study is that the Nyadran tradition is not just a customary ritual but also a vessel for internalizing Sufi values that strengthen the spirituality and social ethics of the Sumberdawe Village community.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the application of moderate Islamic education in the learning process of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at SMP Negeri 17 Gresik, as well as its contribution to the formation of students' religious and nationalism characters. The method used was a qualitative approach with a case study type, where data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving the principal, teaching staff, and a number of students. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman technique. The results showed that the application of the principles of religious moderation in Islamic education learning plays a major role in enriching the study of Islamic education development, especially in strengthening the value of moderation at the secondary education level. This study specifically presents empirical evidence related to the implementation of religious moderation values in SMP Negeri 17 Gresik, which can be used as a reference for other educational institutions to integrate these values into their curriculum and teaching and learning process. In addition, this study offers a critical evaluation of the practice of moderate Islamic education, which is useful for consideration in developing more effective teaching strategies by educators and policy makers. The implementation of religious moderation values is proven to have a positive influence on the formation of students' religious character and nationalism, by encouraging attitudes of tolerance, openness, and respect for diversity. In conclusion, the internalization of moderation values not only strengthens an inclusive and rahmatan lil 'alamin religious foundation, but also fosters a sense of patriotism, social responsibility, and national spirit in students. This finding is very relevant in strengthening the character of the Indonesian nation in the midst of ethnic, cultural and religious diversity.

Abstract

Anxiety is a common psychological issue experienced by students (santri), particularly during their adaptation to the disciplined environment and routines of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). This study aims to analyze the role of dzikir (Islamic remembrance) as a religious coping strategy to reduce anxiety among santri at Pondok Darut Tauhid, Zainul Hasan Genggong Islamic Boarding School. A qualitative approach with a case study method was employed. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of selected students who regularly practice dzikir. The findings indicate that consistent dzikir practices—both individually and in groups—contribute to emotional calmness, increased spiritual awareness, and greater mental resilience. Dzikir also helps shift the students’ focus away from negative thoughts that often trigger anxiety. Thus, dzikir serves not only as a religious ritual but also as an effective coping mechanism for maintaining students’ mental well-being within the pesantren setting. The study recommends strengthening the culture of dzikir as part of mental and spiritual development programs in Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

Education not only aims to educate, but also to form moral and spiritual character. In the modern era, the challenge of maintaining Islamic values is increasingly greater due to the influence of materialistic and individualistic culture. The implementation of Sufism values in the madrasah environment can be carried out in various ways, such as thematic learning based on spiritual values, habituation of noble morals in daily activities, and examples provided by educators. This study examines the application of Sufism values in building the character of students at MI Khalafiyah Syafi'iyah Zainul Hasan Genggong. With qualitative methods and field research, data was collected through observation, interviews, and literature studies. The results of the study show that the integration of Sufism is carried out through the habituation of noble morals, the example of teachers, and spiritual activities such as dhikr and moral studies. By internalizing the values of Sufism, students are taught to respect morality and ethics, as well as developing a closer relationship with God, so that they grow into responsible and virtuous individuals. This approach has proven to be effective in forming students who are not only academically superior, but also have Islamic morals.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the spiritual and emotional dynamics experienced by early marriage couples in Rabesen Besuk Village, as well as reviewing this phenomenon through the Sufistic perspective of Jalaluddin Rumi. The background to this research is based on the widespread practice of early marriage in rural areas which often creates various psychological and spiritual challenges in household life. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews and documentation. The main informants in this research were couples who married at an early age and local community leaders. The results of the research show that couples in early marriage experience emotional stress in the form of anxiety, domestic conflict, and immaturity in decision making. However, on the other hand, there is also a process of searching for meaning and spiritual maturity that develops along with the dynamics of married life. In Jalaluddin Rumi's perspective, this emotional experience is part of a spiritual journey towards self-purification and Divine love. Love, patience and suffering are seen not as obstacles, but as paths to finding identity and closeness to God. This research concludes that early marriage, although full of challenges, has transformative potential if lived with deep spiritual awareness as taught by Jalaluddin Rumi. Therefore, spiritual and emotional development is an important key in accompanying young couples who marry at an early age.

Abstract

Evaluation is an essential component of the learning process, functioning to assess both students’ achievement and the effectiveness of instruction. Its purpose extends beyond academic measurement to encompass student development in cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains. Within the framework of Islamic Religious Education (PAI), evaluation is particularly vital for nurturing Islamic values and fostering students' character holistically—intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. The objective of this research is to analyze the role of evaluation in improving the quality of Islamic Religious Education, particularly in the digital era. It seeks to investigate how educators incorporate technology into their evaluation practices and the extent to which these practices align with educational standards and values of Islam. This study employs a qualitative library research method, supported by content analysis of scholarly literature and previous empirical studies. The data were collected from books, journal articles, and educational policy documents relevant to digital learning evaluation and Islamic pedagogy. The findings reveal that while the integration of technology—such as Learning Management Systems (LMS), online quizzes, and real-time assessments—offers efficiency and accessibility, many educators still rely heavily on traditional evaluation methods that focus primarily on the cognitive domain. This results in a disconnect between the intended educational outcomes and actual practices. Furthermore, the lack of digital literacy and spiritual integration in evaluation tools poses a significant challenge in achieving meaningful educational impact. As a conclusion, the study underscores the need for comprehensive evaluation strategies that are not only technologically adaptive but also spiritually grounded. A well-designed evaluation system in PAI should serve as both a diagnostic tool and a transformative instrument—empowering teachers to guide students in achieving excellence in both academic competence and Islamic character. Enhancing educators’ capacity in digital assessment is essential to cultivating a generation that is morally upright and resilient in the face of global and technological change.

Abstract

The quality of Al-Qur'an memorization of madrasah students is an important indicator of the success of education based on Islamic values. However, in practice, many educational institutions face obstacles such as weak tahfiz curriculum planning, monotonous methods, and lack of innovation in the learning process. This study aims to analyze the forms of innovation in the Tahfizhul Qur'an curriculum that can improve the quality of student memorization in madrasahs. This study uses a library research method by reviewing various academic literature, scientific journals, curriculum documents, and relevant previous research results. The results of the study show that innovation in the tahfiz curriculum can be seen from several main aspects: flexible and character-based curriculum planning, the application of varied learning strategies such as halaqah, visual methods, and digital technology, as well as a holistic evaluation system that involves parents. The innovative curriculum also emphasizes the importance of adjusting the memorization program to the individual abilities of students and strengthening spiritual values during the tahfiz process. In addition, the success of curriculum innovation is greatly influenced by the support of visionary madrasah leadership and participatory management. The implications of this study indicate that the development of an innovative tahfiz curriculum not only increases memorization achievement quantitatively, but also strengthens Islamic values in students as a whole. This study contributes to madrasah managers, tahfiz teachers, and policy makers in designing a more adaptive and meaningful tahfiz program.

Abstract

This article aims to explore the concept of non-violent Islamic education based on the practices and principles implemented by the Khulafaur Rasyidin, namely Abu Bakar Ash-Shiddiq, Umar ibn Khattab, Utsman ibn Affan, and Ali ibn Abi Thalib. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research and historical-critical analysis of classical and contemporary literature. The findings reveal that the Khulafur Rasyidin prioritized educational principles grounded in compassion, dialogue, exemplary conduct, and community empowerment, while firmly rejecting physical and verbal violence in educational practices. Each caliph demonstrated a unique yet consistent approach rooted in humanistic and just Islamic values. The study concludes that the non-violent educational model exemplified by the Khulafaur Rasyidin is highly relevant for addressing modern educational challenges, particularly in developing a character-based and dignified learning system.
