Abstract

Satisfaction with life is an important element of mental health as its protective features against depression, anxiety, and other mental health problems. The bottom-up theory of life satisfaction explained that satisfaction in specific domains tend to sum up to general life satisfaction. accordingly, studies reported that relationship satisfaction predicts general life satisfaction This cross-sectional study aims to investigate the role of two variables, namely perceived social support (PSS) and mattering. We hypothesized that PSS and mattering perform full serial mediation on the link relationship between relationship satisfaction and life satisfaction. 256 individuals who live in several urban areas in West Malaysia were recruited through purposive sampling to respond to online form consisted of scales of relationship satisfaction, satisfaction with life, general mattering scale and multidimensional scale of perceived social support. Bootstrap method with 95% confidence interval and 5,000 samples was conducted through PROCESS Macro model 6; the results suggested that a significant, full serial mediation occurred. Additionally, both PSS and mattering significantly predicted life satisfaction after controlling for each other.

Abstract

Currently, eye surgery is the only viable solution to reserve blindness in cataract patients. Nonetheless, post-cataract surgery care plays an important role in the effectiveness of cataract surgery. To ensure the success of post-cataract surgery, healthcare providers must support patients with adequate knowledge regarding post-cataract surgery care. In this study, we investigate the effectiveness of audiovisual media in post-cataract surgery care education on improving patients’ knowledge. This quasi-experimental study is designed with one group pre-test and post-test approach. We recruited a total of 58 participants aged ≥40 years with senile cataract diagnosis who underwent cataract surgery by phacoemulsification in one eye using local anesthesia or neurolept, with visual acuity in the unoperated eye ≥0.08, and without hearing loss. Participants were given complementary post-surgery education through audiovisual media for 7 minutes and participants were instructed to fill out the questionnaire about post-cataract surgery care prior to and after getting the complementary audiovisual media education. The collected data were analyzed using the frequency distribution analysis and Wilcoxon test. The findings suggest that the application of audiovisual media in post-cataract surgery care education significantly increases patients’ knowledge (p-value<0.001). This study concludes that providing education through audiovisual media is recommended for post-cataract surgery patients.

Abstract

In several countries, it has been found that people experienced symptoms of COVID-19 even after several weeks or months since they were declared cured or tested negative. This symptom is known as the long COVID-19 syndrome. This study aimed to get an overview of the long COVID-19 syndrome experienced by children. This study was a cross-sectional study conducted in West Sumatra, Indonesia in August-October 2021. The sample was 214 children younger than 18 years old. The results showed that after more than four weeks tested positive for COVID-19, 28.5% of children still have respiratory disorders, 26.2% experienced symptoms of sleep disorders, 23.4% of children experienced fatigue, 11.2% of children experienced symptoms of memory disorders, and 8.42% experienced symptoms of digestive disorders. Although not as much as in adults, this study shows that long COVID-19 syndrome can also occur in children. The clinical manifestations of long COVID-19 were varied in symptoms and can occur alone or in combination simultaneously. Parents should continue to optimize their child's time to rest even though they have declared negative for COVID-19 and keep an eye on the symptoms that still appear.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the perceptions of health care professionals about the use of telemedicine which took place in Banguntapan 2 primary health care. This study was part of a bigger action research study and was done to obtain an understanding of the telemedicine service as the first step of the diagnosing phase. The respondents are the chief of primary health care, the coordinator of individual health initiatives as well and the coordinator for the appointment program. The selected healthcare professionals were chosen to obtain the telemedicine best-practice in healthcare facilities and to serve as the data triangulation to avoid bias in the answers collected. The result of the interviews revealed four topics: i) the use of telemedicine in minimizing direct contact with the patient; ii) the need to expand the existing system; iii) the utilization of WhatsApp, a popular online platform in the community; and iv) the possibility to merge with the existing online system of national health insurance (JKN) and digital government service (DGS). Some recommendations to improve are to implement a one-stop messaging service, optimization of WhatsApp, and bridge the appointment system to the existing regional DGS.

Abstract

Mental health illiteracy has been found to be a risk factor in a large number of disorders. The purpose of this study was adapting cross-culturally the Postpartum depression literacy scale (PoDLiS) questionnaire in Indonesian pregnant and postnatal women. There were three stages involved in this study: translation, cultural adaptation, and validation of an instrument. A cross-sectional study was carried out on a convenient sample of pregnant and postpartum women who visited the prenatal and pediatric clinics of an Indonesian general hospital. Construct validity and reliability testing was conducted using factors analysis, confirmatory factors analysis, and convergent and discriminant validityThe scale’s reliability was determined using internal consistency. Within their own factor, the bulk of the elements had a high factorial weight (>.50). The model with seven factors shows excellent fit indices after confirmatory factor analysis (CFI=0.94; TLI=0.98; RMSEA=0.056 [95% CI 0.011-0.095]). Because seven components have average variance extracted (AVE >50), there is convergent validity. Because the AVE coefficients for the seven components are greater than the correlation coefficients for each dimension, each dimension possesses discriminant validity. The PoDLiS structure is suitable for pregnant and postpartum women from various cultures, particularly Indonesia.

Abstract

In the fight against COVID-19, the mass usage of broad-spectrum antibiotics and steroids may result in the development or worsening of a pre-existing fungal disease. The researchers conducted the current study among a sample of the general population in Egypt to assess their mucormycosis-related knowledge. The current work was an exploratory cross-sectional study performed via an online survey. The investigators conducted a convenience sampling by looking for large-networked groups on Facebook; 473 completed the questionnaire. It included: socio-demographics, 28 knowledge questions addressing definition, risk factors, modes of transmission, symptoms, and prevention of mucormycosis, and sources of knowledge. The median total knowledge percent score was 58 (9-38). The least median percent score was 25 (0-83) for prevention knowledge. The comparison between knowledge percent score and participants' demographics showed no statistically significant difference. However, the participants working in the medical field had a higher median knowledge percent score, with a p-value <0.05. The major sources of information were cited as being the internet and social media. Despite being educated, and most of the enrolled individuals were university graduates, most participants had insufficient mucormycotic knowledge. This emphasizes the importance of conducting mucormycosis awareness campaigns for the public.

Abstract

One of the control measures to stop the transmission of COVID-19 was the implementation of a lockdown. However, after a few months of lockdown, previous research has found significant evidence of lockdown-related fatigue. Hence, the current study aimed to determine the lockdown fatigue of the students. A descriptive research design and total sampling were used. A questionnaire was developed to collect data about the sex and monthly income of the respondents and their level of lockdown fatigue and feelings after the lockdown. Permission to conduct and informed consent were obtained. Data were analyzed using various statistical tools. A total of 629 respondents participated in the study. Many of them were female and had a monthly income less than P11,690. Most of them had a moderate to high level of lockdown fatigue, and the difference in their profile was insignificant. After the lockdown period, they sometimes felt powerless, stressed, and angry, their problems were getting worse, and something unexpected would happen. Last, their feelings and lockdown fatigue level, after lockdown, had a significant positive relationship. Further studies regarding the efficacy and effectiveness of lockdowns, as well as any restriction that may jeopardize students’ health should be continually assessed by government authorities.

Abstract

The increasing trend of illicit drug use leaves a huge concern for health and behavioral changes, including in Indonesia. Rehabilitation is a series of treatments designed to help them recover from addiction and its impacts comprehensively. The present study aimed to explore the demographic characteristic and drug use profiles of clients admitted in Lido Rehabilitation Center, the national referral center for drug use treatment in Indonesia, during 2022. A survey study was carried out quantitatively using a 2022 database of client admission in February 2023. Descriptive analysis was performed to present the data as appropriate. The overall total of drug users was 592 clients (569 males, 23 females). The demographic characteristics were dominated by young adults (79.90%), voluntary (74.70%), Muslims (86.80%), high-school-to-higher graduates (74.70%), and employers (61.80%). The drug mostly used was methamphetamines (69.80%) with duration being less than 10 years (75.50%) and addiction level being mild-to-moderate (92.80%). The main reasons for starting drug use were peer/partner pressure (37.18%) and curiosity (29.92%). From this study, we can see that the trend of methamphetamine use in productive ages is still dominating in 2022. Further study is needed to evaluate the outcomes of the treatment they have received during the rehabilitation program.

Abstract

Global health questionnaire-12 (GHQ12) is the most common instrument used to measure mental health. However, the factor structure of the GHQ12 has not been fully explored. This study aims to assess the factorial structure of the GHQ12 and explore demographic factors associated with mental wellbeing in a population of prospective biology teachers in Indonesia. This cross-sectional survey was conducted for two weeks in July 2023 by recruiting 1186 students who were predominantly female (85.92%), over 20 years old (68.79%), only studying without working (90.47%), and third year (33.81%). Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were used to extract and assess the suitability of the resulting models. GHQ12 scores were also reviewed concerning demographic characteristics using comparison tests. Two factors including depression and social dysfunction accounted for 58.78% of the variance. This two-factor model was confirmed to fit the actual data. Additionally, we found differences between men and women on both factors and total scores. In addition, there are differences between students who only study and those who work on depression factors. This study suggests that the factor structure of the GHQ12 is a valid and reliable measurement for evaluating the mental health of prospective biology teachers.
