Abstract

Purpose – Zotero is a Reference Management Software (RMS) that can help students manage references, citations, and bibliographies automatically. However, the background factors and the extent to which students understand and feel the benefits of using Zotero in this process have not been widely studied, especially from a qualitative research perspective. Therefore, this study aims to examine the factors behind using Zotero as a reference management tool and its impact on the process of writing academic texts for students.Methodology – The research employs a qualitative design with data collected from twelve undergraduate students at Tanjungpura University during the 2023-2024 academic year. Participants were selected based on their confirmed experience using Zotero for academic writing. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews, and thematic analysis was applied to identify patterns and themes in the responses.Findings – The research findings indicate three main themes. The first theme is the perception of ease of use, with subthemes of ease of download, installation, and use, as well as ease of understanding and learning. The second theme is the perception of usefulness with the subthemes of time efficiency, improved score, improving writing quality, ease of citation, and bibliography, making it easy to translate. The third theme is the influence of using the subthemes of academic encouragement, friend encouragement, and lecturer encouragement. These findings underscore Zotero’s effectiveness in supporting students’ academic writing needs.Significance – This research benefits educators, students, and academic institutions seeking to incorporate practical reference management tools into academic writing practices. It highlights Zotero's potential to streamline the writing process and improve academic outcomes, offering valuable insights for integrating technology into higher education curricula. Keywords : Zotero, RMS, Reference Management, Student, Perception

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to develop an instrument in the form of a self-compassion scale for public junior high school students in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region Province.Methodology – This study used the Research and Development (R&D) method. The scale's validity was assessed by three expert judgments consisting of Guidance and Counseling lecturers. The sampling technique for the reliability test used simple random sampling with a total sample of 32 public junior high school students in Sleman Regency. The instrument readability test involved 13 Guidance and Counseling teachers and five public junior high school students. The scale instrument was developed based on Neff's Self-Compassion theory, which consists of three dimensions: self-kindness vs self-judgment, common humanity vs isolation, and mindfulness vs over-identification. Content validity was measured by Aiken's Coefficient V, while reliability was tested using Cronbach's Alpha with the help of SPSS.Findings—The results of scale validation by three expert judgments showed an Aiken V index of 0.96 (highly valid). The scale's reliability based on Cronbach's Alpha was 0.88 (very high). The instrument's feasibility test showed that 100% of the statement items were feasible. In contrast, the readability test confirmed that the language in the instrument was appropriate for the age level of junior high school students.Significance—The self-compassion scale developed in this study proved valid and reliable, so it can be used as a measuring tool appropriate for the age development of junior high school students. This instrument is helpful for educators and practitioners in the field of Guidance and Counseling to measure and improve students' self-compassion in an educational context. Keywords: Self-compassion, Measurement scale, Validity, Reliability, Junior high school students

Abstract

Purpose—Curriculum changes in Indonesia, which often feel far from the values and cultural roots of Indonesian society and tend to be Western, can impact the erosion of the noble values of the Indonesian nation. This research aims to explore the values that exist in the literary works of the Malay community, which in this case are found in Pantun, Tunjuk Ajar, and Gurindam.Methodology—This research is a literature study. Library research involves collecting library data, reading, taking notes, and processing data from the reading results.Findings – 1. Malay people who identify themselves with Islam indirectly use Islamic values as the reference and highest value system. Education in Malay society aims to create a perfect human who upholds all the norms held by Malay society. Perfect people in Malay society are called “bertuah”.2. Creating a person “bertuah” is the duty of all members of society, especially parents. Meanwhile, the tools and means include literary works, songs, and advice. Malay society focuses more on cultivating religious values, such as religious knowledge. Therefore, education, in this case, is more aimed at creating a character- characteristics possessed by people “bertuah." 3. If linked to one of the schools of educational philosophy, the concept of education in the view of the Malay community can be said to tend to be behavioralistic, where stimulus is an important thing in the success of education and the creation of one's character.Significance—By revealing the concept of education for the Malay community, it will open up new treasures related to education. Keywords: Philosophy, Manusia Bertuah, Malay, Education

Abstract

Purpose - Applying a blended learning approach assisted by a Learning Management System (LMS) in science subjects can improve students' digital literacy skills. This study aims to investigate the effect of three types of blended learning, namely individual rotate, flex, and inside-out types, on students' digital literacy skills in science subjects.Methodology—The study used quantitative research with a pure experimental design (true experiment). The population in the study was all eighth-grade students, and the samples were four classes with a total of 124 students. The instrument used is a questionnaire that aims to assess the impact of blended learning implementation on students' digital literacy skills. The questionnaire was given before and after the application of blended learning.Findings - The results of data analysis show that the three types of blended learning affect digital literacy skills; this can be proven by the significance value of 0,001, which means that there is a significant difference in digital literacy skills between students taught with individual rotation, flex, and inside-out blended types. The three types of blended learning applied in the experimental class affected digital literacy skills. However, it is not significantly different as evidenced by the individual rotation, flex, and inside-out blended learning types at Sig> 0,05 level.Contribution—This research shows that blended learning can be a solution in education for learners and educators who utilize internet-based technology in the learning process. However, improvements in the provision of internet facilities are still needed to overcome the existing challenges.
