Abstract

This community service program was carried out to empower the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) of Lebih Village, Gianyar, through training in administration and tourism management. The background of this activity lies in the low administrative and management capacity of local tourism resources, which has hindered optimal destination management. The program aimed to enhance the skills of Pokdarwis members and administrators in organizational administration, program planning, and utilization of tourism potential. The implementation methods included preliminary observation, module preparation, face-to-face training, group discussions, and technical assistance. The results showed an improvement in participants’ understanding of organizational administration, financial recording, and promotion strategies based on local potential. Evaluation was conducted through questionnaires and practical assessments, indicating that most participants were able to apply the trained skills. The program’s outputs included training modules, standardized administrative formats, and an annual work plan for the Pokdarwis. In conclusion, the training effectively improved Pokdarwis’ capacity towards more professional and sustainable tourism management.

Abstract

Household organic waste management in densely populated areas such as Tegalrejo, Yogyakarta, poses a significant challenge that impacts both environmental quality and public health. This community service program aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of local residents—particularly members of the PRA Tegalrejo women's group—in utilizing Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae, or maggots, as biological agents for organic waste decomposition. The training was conducted through educational sessions, live demonstrations on maggot utilization, and interactive discussions. The results showed a 14.73% increase in participants’ understanding, based on pretest and posttest scores. Participants not only gained knowledge about the decomposition process using maggots, but also recognized the potential of maggot farming as a source of animal feed and local economic opportunity. This program demonstrates that hands-on, eco-friendly education can effectively encourage community participation in waste management while simultaneously strengthening environmental resilience and household socio-economic sustainability.

Abstract

The public still lacks understanding of black cumin seeds (Nigella sativa), especially regarding their bioactive content, benefits, and safety for consumption. To understand the proper use of herbal plants based on scientific evidence, the public needs research-based education. Therefore, this study aims to determine the education on the use of black cumin seeds in increasing public knowledge and measuring the basic health conditions of the people of Karang Asih Village. The technique used in this study was a quasi-experimental one-group pre-test-post-test design combined with a health survey. This online education was conducted through presentations, posters, and leaflets containing information on active metabolites, the mechanism of action of compounds, and scientific BSLT toxicity tests. To determine how well the participants understood, their knowledge was measured with a pre-test and post-test and analyzed with the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Several parameters measured in the health survey to map the community's health conditions were blood pressure, postprandial blood sugar, total cholesterol, and body weight. Participants' knowledge increased significantly after education (p <0.001), with an average increase of 3.82 points. These results indicate that the public needs education on the safe use of herbs in accordance with clinical conditions. The results of this study can be used to support the idea that education-based research can increase public knowledge about the benefits and safety of black cumin seeds.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of a larvicide socialization program as a strategy to address the increasing number of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases in Darmasaba Village, Abiansemal District, Badung Regency. This qualitative study, using a case study design, employed data collection methods through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis. Respondents were selected using purposive sampling, including health officials, village officials, and community members. The results show that the socialization, including the direct distribution of larvicides to residents' homes, was effective in increasing community understanding and active participation. A positive change in behavior was observed, with residents routinely cleaning water containers and using larvicides, which contributed to a decrease in DHF cases. Nevertheless, challenges such as misconceptions about fogging being the only solution and resource limitations were still found. This study recommends stronger collaboration between the government, health workers, and the community, as well as the use of digital media to ensure the sustainability of the program

Abstract

This community service article examines the active role of young voters in North Lombok during and after the 2024 simultaneous elections, challenging prevailing narratives about youth political apathy. Based on participatory observation and discussion at the North Lombok Election Commission (KPU) podcast on November 28, 2025, this study documents how young people contributed significantly to electoral integrity through multiple roles including election organizers (KPPS and PPK), peace mediators, and sustained civic activists. The analysis employs the Sasak cultural philosophy of "Tioq, Tata, Tunaq" (cultivate, maintain, cherish) as a framework for understanding comprehensive democratic citizenship that extends beyond voting to include accountability monitoring and genuine commitment to national unity. Key findings reveal that youth political engagement flourishes when meaningful participation opportunities exist and when their contributions are recognized and valued. The article argues that addressing youth disengagement requires transforming political institutions rather than changing young people themselves, and calls for developing "good political will" among youth characterized by integrity, critical thinking, and public-regarding values to transform politics into a vehicle for collective progress. Recommendations include institutionalizing youth roles in electoral administration, strengthening civic education, creating formal mechanisms for youth policy input, and addressing structural barriers to participation. The North Lombok experience demonstrates that youth can be powerful democratic agents when properly engaged and supported.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve English language skills and instill biblical values in children and adolescents at the Imanuel Oepura Congregation in Kupang City through the integration of digital comics based on folklore. This initiative was motivated by the urgency of mastering English in the era of globalization and efforts to preserve local wisdom. The implementation method involved 49 participants, where students delivered Sunday school material using digital comics that combined folklore with biblical values, followed by a quiz to evaluate understanding. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in children's engagement and understanding of the values conveyed. The developed digital comics have undergone expert validation tests (media, language, materials) with excellent percentages (e.g., 95.13% and 98.26% of trials, 100% by media experts, and 94% by language experts), confirming their quality and suitability as effective and engaging learning media. Positive responses from participants also indicate that digital comics have successfully increased reading interest and learning motivation. It was concluded that the integration of folklore-based digital comics is an effective method to increase engagement and understanding of the material, although the success of its implementation depends on the availability of supporting infrastructure. This activity is expected to be a reference for similar programs in the future in developing innovative and relevant educational media
