Abstract

The progress of tourism is heavily influenced by the professionalism and existence of its institutions (tourism institutions). In this community service, the Airlangga University Public Administration team partnered with the Diponegoro University Public Administration team to assist MSME partners in Wonolopo Semarang. The problem with partners is the need to strengthen tourism institutions and expand the marketing of MSME products including herbal medicine villages, flora villages selling ornamental plants, and so on. Wonolopo has 10 tourism awareness groups from 8 thematic villages. The solution to the partner problem is the transfer of knowledge of tourism institutional development. There are three choices of institutional forms, namely tourism awareness groups, cooperatives and BUMDesa. The solution to the second problem is information and communication technology-based marketing with Linktree which is shared on social media and using digital marketing platforms. The results achieved after the community service was carried out were that 98.3% of MSME actors and tourism managers in Wonolopo Semarang had increased their abilities in developing tourism institutions and digital marketing innovation, as much as 1.6% needed to be improved. For this reason, more intensive assistance is needed for partners in Wonolopo, Semarang.

Abstract

In collaboration with a group of hydroponics farmers, an activity as a part of community service implementation has been carried out in Pasuruan, Eastern Java. The activity aims to develop a 900 Wp solar power plant capable of providing energy for running the essential electrical devices for the hydroponics system uninterrupted. This idea is to resolve the energy issue when the outage occurs. Moreover, the reliance on the public grid also adds additional expense for the electricity bill. Based on the observation, the power plant reliably provides sufficient energy to turn on different hydroponics electrical devices. It can supply energy for 12 hours without charging to activate, in total, 160 Watt of diverse loads all night long. While during the day, solar panels deliver energy for the batteries recharging and the other loads. Some other facilities are also developed in this activity, including UV plastic roof and addition of the grow lights to promote the plants’ growth acceleration. The plastic roof efficiently reduces the sunlight intensity to lower the heat experienced by the plants, transmits specific wavelengths crucial for growth, and prevents the rainwater from entering the nutrient water tank. Meanwhile, the grow lights stimulate faster growth and quickly recover the plants after receiving much heat that causes them to look wilt. As a result, the farmers are now less reliant on the public grid, and the hydroponics system is more weather-resistant.

Abstract

Puerperium is a critical period in which mothers often experience physical and psychological problems, however it is the beginning of the breastfeeding process and determines the success of exclusive breastfeeding. The use of traditional herbs for postpartum mothers is part of Indonesian culture that is starting to be abandoned in urban area. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge, attitudes and behaviour of the community regarding the importance of postpartum maternal health care and the use of traditional herbs with proper processing methods as a promotive and preventive treatment. This activity was carried out in Gubeng Surabaya District with three stages including preparation, implementation of activities and evaluation. In the preparation stage, a situation analysis was performed. Activities were conducted by delivering lectures, discussions, video demonstrations and training. The evaluation was carried out by obtaining feedback from the social and community empowerment section as well as the pre-test and post-test questionnaires filled out by the participants. Based on the evaluation, the community service can increase participants' knowledge about postpartum health care and lactation management, thereby increasing awareness to play an active role by disseminating information to the community about the importance of family and the neighbourhood support for postpartum and breastfeeding mothers. The participants 'knowledge about the use of traditional medicinal plants for the maintenance of postpartum health and successful breastfeeding also increased, accompanied by an increase in the participants' willingness to prepare traditional jamu from fresh herbal ingredients themselves. This community service needs to be carried out in a sustainable manner with innovative delivery methods.

Abstract

Hydroponics is one of the agricultural techniques with great potential to produce plant products. Hydroponics is also a pattern of plant breeding that is environmentally friendly and does not require a large area of land. Although it has been developed for long time ago, the quality and quantity of hydroponics does not really give significant results. In order to improve the quality of agricultural products, a modernization step is needed by implementing an automation system based on Internet of Things. Thus, the solution offered to overcome the problems of the current hydroponic system, the innovation offered is green hardware, namely Airlangga Sahabat Petani Hidroponik (Arsenik). In this hardware, monitoring of the system with an integrated manner and measuring several aspects such as environmental and soil levels, nutrients in plants and interpreting them into an output that can be read directly by users. The expected result through this hardware is community empowerment in developing hydroponic systems and maximum hydroponic plant yields.

Abstract

Stunting is a condition in which children under five years old fail to thrive due to chronic malnutrition in the first 1000 days of life and the height is below the height chart (<-2 SD) on standard age. Although stunting has negative great impact on the child growth and development, parents frequently are not concert about it due to lack of information regarding stunting.  The COVID-19 pandemic also contributes on fulfillment of nutritious food, non-routine checks for the child growth and development at the posyandu, and even stopped posyandu activities. Therefore, it is still challenging to detect the incidence of stunting in the community. This program aims to increase the knowledge and raise awareness of the importance of the first 1000 days if life in a child's growth and development also to increase the cadre skill in the early detection of stunting. The community service activity was held in the area of the Morokrembangan Primary Health Center include health promotion and training for early detection of stunting through anthropometric examination for posyandu cadre, pregnancy mother and mother of under 5 years old child. Evaluation was done by measuring the increasing of participants knowledge about stunting through pretest and posttest. There was a significant difference (p = 0.000) between the pretest and posttest. It means that this program activities have succeeded in increasing the knowledge of mothers and cadre.  A better understanding of the first 1000 days of life can improve people's behavior to prevent stunting in community.

Abstract

The people of Bolo Village, Ujung Pangkah District, Gresik Regency, choose to farm as a livelihood, both as farmers on their own land and on other people's land. Lime is a type of plant that is widely grown in the area. With a lime garden area of 450 hectares, lime farmers in this area can produce an average of 2-3 tons of lime per month per hectare. Lime from this sub-district has also reached local and international markets, such as Malaysia and Singapore. The community also develops or processes lime into processed products that have higher economic value, for example processed into processed beverage products in the form of liquids, extracts, instant powders, or processed into belt products, cosmetics and so on. On the other hand, technological developments that are rapidly developing can basically be used to increase the marketability of limes, such as processing lime peels into more useful products, not just lime contents. Nanotechnology can be used to produce lime peel powder with a nanometer size using a tool called a ball mill and grinder. The process of making lime peel nanopowder using a ball mill is very simple. This tool has also been developed a lot so the price is also cheap. For this reason, the community service activities is carried out to provide education to lime farmers in the Ujung Pangkah sub-district, Gresik to process lime peels into powder and make it possible to obtain nanopowder which has high selling value and or produces processed lime into other products. The expected output is lime peel processed products into powders of various sizes, one of which is nanometer with a lime peel powder maker, in this case a ball mill and grinder with simple operations and low prices. In simple terms, especially large powders can be used as additional ingredients for spices, even tea mixtures. This community service activity can support the 12th point of the Sustainable Development Goals in promoting zero waste, namely responsible consumption and production; as well as on point 8, namely decent work and economic growth in encouraging the formation of MSMEs to utilize processed orange peels to increase their economic value. Thus, we also believe that the community service would not only increase the lime home industry in Bolo village significantly, but also increase awareness of the community about the environmental sustainability.

Abstract

Newborns are prone to health problems due to a weak body defense system. Some problems that commonly arise in neonates include diseases in the mild category (which are common), for example: jaundice (physiological jaundice), vomiting, seborrheic dermatitis, oral trush, diarrhea, fever, diapper rush (diaper rash), miliariasis, constipation, and others. One of the preventive efforts to prevent complications in newborns is by providing health education aimed at increasing public knowledge about problems that often arise in newborns so that they can identify and take appropriate anticipatory and handling steps from existing problems.  Community service activities are carried out through talk show activities in the form of questions and answers between radio broadcasters and speakers regarding the theme of activities that have been previously determined and broadcast live streaming on the Youtube channel of RRI Malang in the Kiprah Indonesia program. The activity was carried out on September 5, 2022 with a duration of time during live Youtube, which is about 60 minutes. Community participation from the talk show is indicated by the total viewers on the You tube page of RRI Malang, which is 69 times watched and 10 “like”. Providing education in this community service activity is expected to affect the behavior of mothers and families in the detection and treatment of problems that often arise in newborns.

Abstract

Cervical cancer is the most common type of cancer in women and the main reason people die from cancer in poor countries like Indonesia. Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that is caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and can be dangerous to a woman's health. Cervical cancer has the second most cases and deaths in the world, after breast cancer. The East Java Provincial Health Office's Health Profile for 2021 says that Trenggalek is an area with a low rate of cervical cancer screening. So, we started doing community service projects to make more people aware of cervical cancer. This community event began with drinks for the staff and a talk about cervical cancer and how to find it early. Some of the things that are done are health education about cervical cancer and ways to find it early. During this practice, women of reproductive age (WUS) were also asked to take part in a free Visual Acetate Acid (VIA) test done by the team. The next event was a free VIA test, which 21 WUS students took part in. The results of the VIA test showed that 20 people had bad VIA and one person had good VIA. The team then sent people who had a good VIA to get more care. Women, cadres, and other important people in the community can learn more about cervical cancer through community service. However, community service in other areas is needed in the coming year so that this issue can be brought up and the community can benefit from it, especially since cervical cancer is on the rise. People also think that this would change how women with cervical cancer get their treatments and improve their quality of life. Â
