Abstract

This study aims to analyze the strengthening of reading literacy in elementary schools through a contextual approach. The research employed a qualitative method with a case study design conducted in a fifth-grade class of a public elementary school. The research participants included the principal, classroom teacher, and students. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis followed an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with validity ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal that the contextual approach enhances students’ text comprehension, inferential skills, and engagement in reading activities. Connecting reading materials with students’ real-life experiences promotes deeper and more reflective meaning construction. Group discussions and authentic tasks further strengthen students’ motivation and confidence in expressing their ideas. Supporting factors include teacher readiness and a well-established school literacy culture, while constraints involve limited instructional time and diverse initial reading abilities. This study contributes by offering a contextual and practical literacy learning model to foster meaningful reading culture in elementary schools.

Abstract

Physical appearance often becomes an important aspect of social identity and plays a significant role in shaping social interactions within the university environment, giving rise to the phenomenon of beauty privilege, defined as preferential treatment received by individuals perceived as physically attractive. This study aims to explore students’ experiences and attitudes toward beauty privilege at a private university using a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 12 students who had relevant experiences with the phenomenon, and data credibility was ensured through source triangulation. The findings reveal that students perceive beauty not merely in terms of physical appearance, but also as encompassing inner qualities such as kindness, attitudes, and behavior. The presence of beauty privilege was recognized within the campus context, as reflected in differential treatment from lecturers, peers, and administrative staff toward students considered physically attractive. Nevertheless, students demonstrated critical attitudes toward this phenomenon, viewing beauty privilege as a form of social injustice that may overlook essential aspects such as competence, integrity, and personality, thereby highlighting the need for a more inclusive and equitable understanding of beauty in the university setting.

Abstract

Unsignaled intersections are intersections that are widely encountered in urban areas, one of which is the intersection of three unsignaled intersections on Jl. Raya Sukaraja - Sukabumi and Jl. Pempembangunan . This area is a commercial area that is crowded with shops, often experiencing congestion due to vehicle interaction and passenger pick-up and drop-off activities. This research aims to analyze the performance of intersections based on the 2023 Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI), the research directly surveys the field for three days, namely art, Wednesday and Saturday to obtain vehicle volume. From the results of the research on the Salakaso intersection, it can be known that the peak hours at the intersection on Saturday are 6249 hours 17.00-18.00 WIB. The results of the research and analysis obtained the capacity at the intersection was 2956.87 smp/hour, the volume of traffic flow reached 3614.6 smp/hour and the performance at the intersection during peak hours reached the degree of saturation of DJ 1.22. Based on the value of the degree of traffic performance saturation at the intersection of Jl. Raya Sukaraja – Sukabumi and Jl. Pembangunan of 1.22, because the DJ value exceeds 0.85 is not in accordance with the provisions suggested in the 2023 Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI), so there needs to be a replanning or improvement in the performance of the intersection with other alternatives.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the optimization of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use in an effort to maintain occupational safety on the MV. Tonasa Line XV. The study used a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through field observations, in-depth interviews with four key ship informants (Chief Officer, Bosun, Third Officer, and AB), and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that the availability of PPE on the ship has basically met the need for occupational protection, but the quality of some equipment has begun to decline and the use of additional protection is not evenly distributed. Crew compliance is relatively good in the use of helmets and safety shoes, but partial non-compliance is still found in the use of gloves and ear protectors which has the potential to cause minor work injuries. The safety control system through safety briefings and officer supervision has been implemented, although its effectiveness is not optimal because sanctions are still in the form of verbal warnings. On the other hand, the crew safety culture is relatively positive and is a major supporting factor in maintaining occupational safety, while the main weakness lies in the aspect of PPE maintenance and replacement that is not yet responsive. Therefore, optimizing the use of PPE requires strengthening behavioral discipline, a maintenance management system, and stricter enforcement of safety regulations to ensure sustainable occupational safety on ships.

Abstract

This study analyzes the scope and sequence of the Fiqh curriculum at MTsN 1 Malang Regency to assess its integration of theory, practice, and character building. A descriptive qualitative method was used through teacher interviews and curriculum document analysis. The results show that the curriculum covers ibadah (purification, prayer, zakat, fasting, pilgrimage) and muamalah (trade, usury, inheritance). The sequence is logically arranged from basic to practical levels, creating progressive and contextual learning. It also integrates social and spiritual values through school-based zakat and charity activities. Overall, the curriculum’s scope and sequence support Islamic character development, 21st-century competencies, and contextual learning relevance.

Abstract

This study examines the efforts of classroom teachers in improving learning discipline among elementary school students. The research addresses the problem of low student discipline, which impacts academic achievement and classroom management. The objective of this study is to identify effective strategies and methods implemented by teachers to enhance students’ learning discipline. A qualitative research design with a descriptive approach was employed, involving observations, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The findings indicate that teachers utilize a combination of structured classroom routines, positive reinforcement, clear rules, and consistent monitoring to promote discipline. Additionally, the involvement of parents and collaborative activities contributes to a more disciplined learning environment. The study concludes that proactive teacher intervention and structured strategies significantly improve student discipline, resulting in better academic engagement and classroom order Penelitian ini mengkaji upaya guru kelas dalam meningkatkan disiplin belajar siswa sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini menyoroti masalah rendahnya disiplin siswa yang berdampak pada pencapaian akademik dan manajemen kelas. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi strategi dan metode yang efektif yang diterapkan guru untuk meningkatkan disiplin belajar siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif, melibatkan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru memanfaatkan kombinasi rutinitas kelas yang terstruktur, penguatan positif, aturan yang jelas, dan pemantauan yang konsisten untuk mendorong disiplin. Selain itu, keterlibatan orang tua dan kegiatan kolaboratif turut berkontribusi pada terciptanya lingkungan belajar yang lebih disiplin. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa intervensi proaktif guru dan strategi yang terstruktur secara signifikan meningkatkan disiplin siswa, yang berdampak pada keterlibatan akademik dan ketertiban di kelas yang lebih baik.

Abstract

Career development is a crucial aspect of students’ personal and professional growth. Amid the rapidly changing dynamics of the world of work, students face various career-related challenges, including confusion in career decision-making, limited self-understanding, and restricted access to career information. Guidance and counseling services play a strategic role in bridging students’ personal potential with readiness for future career success. This study aims to examine effective strategies in career guidance and counseling that support students’ career development. The research employed a literature review method by analyzing national and international scholarly articles published between 2015 and 2025 that are relevant to career guidance, career development theories, and career counseling interventions. The findings indicate that effective career guidance and counseling strategies include facilitating self-understanding, providing career information services, training in career decision-making, and implementing contextual and developmentally based career counseling. These strategies contribute to the development of career adaptability, self-efficacy, and realistic career planning among students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the impact of online gaming on the learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at UPT SD Negeri 064037 Medan Tembung in the 2024/2025 academic year. This research employs a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The research subjects were 30 fifth-grade students. The instruments used in this study was an online gaming questionnaire using a Likert scale, interviews, and documentation of students’ learning outcome scores. The results of the study indicate that more than half of the students showed a tendency to neglect school assignments (55.83%), less than half experienced physical and psychological impacts (45%), the majority experienced impacts of online gaming on learning motivation positive impacts of online gaming (22.3%), and more than half experienced negative impacts of online gaming (55%).

Abstract

Muhammadiyah is one of the largest Islamic organizations in Indonesia, widely recognized as a movement of da‘wah and tajdid (renewal). Along with the dynamics of social, cultural, and global changes, the identity of the Muhammadiyah movement has continuously been strengthened to remain aligned with the progress of the times. This study aims to systematically elaborate the identity of the Muhammadiyah movement as viewed from its ideological foundations, intellectual orientation, and socio-religious practices. The research employs a library research method with a qualitative approach, utilizing data sources in the form of books as well as national and international journal articles. Data analysis is conducted through content analysis of the selected literature. The findings indicate that the identity of the Muhammadiyah movement is characterized by a strong commitment to the purification of Islamic teachings based on the Qur’an and Sunnah, a spirit of renewal (tajdid), an orientation toward the advancement of science and knowledge, and active engagement in the fields of education, social welfare, and humanitarian activities. This identity affirms Muhammadiyah’s position as a moderate and progressive Islamic movement that contributes significantly to the development of society and the nation.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the mathematics learning outcomes of second-grade students at SDN 69 Galesong 1 on the material of addition and subtraction of integers through the use of pictorial media. The research employed the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection phases. The research subjects were 35 students. Data were collected through observation, tests (pre-test and post-test), and documentation. The results showed a significant improvement in student learning outcomes. The average pre-test score was 59.2 with a mastery rate of 31.4%, which increased to 72.4 with a 65.7% mastery rate in Cycle I, and reached 84.6 with a 91.4% mastery rate in Cycle II. Furthermore, teacher and student activities during the learning process showed significant improvement, reflecting increased student motivation and engagement. These findings indicate that the use of pictorial media is effective in helping students understand integer operation concepts more concretely, attractively, and easily. Thus, pictorial media can serve as an innovative alternative learning strategy to enhance mathematics learning outcomes in elementary schools.
