Abstract

This study was motivated by the low numeracy skills of elementary school students in geometry learning and the abstract nature of mathematics instruction that is rarely connected to students’ culture and daily lives. The study aimed to determine the effect of implementing an ethnomathematics approach in geometry learning on the numeracy skills of fourth-grade students at SDIT Raudhatur Rahmah Pekanbaru. This research employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The sample consisted of two classes, namely an experimental class and a control class, each consisting of 25 students. Data were collected through pretest and posttest instruments as well as documentation. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality tests, the Mann–Whitney U test, and N-Gain analysis. The results showed that the average posttest score of the experimental class was 88.72, which was higher than the control class score of 59.96. The Mann–Whitney U test result obtained an Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the two classes. The N-Gain analysis also revealed that the improvement in students’ numeracy skills in the experimental class reached 58.99% in the moderate category, while the control class only reached 3.82% in the low category. Therefore, the implementation of the ethnomathematics approach in geometry learning significantly affected the improvement of elementary school students’ numeracy skills. The ethnomathematics approach was proven to create more contextual, active, and meaningful learning through the integration of local culture into mathematics instruction.

Abstract

The nyeruit tradition is a cultural practice of the Lampung people that utilises tempoyak as an accompaniment to local dishes. This study aims to examine the scientific concepts involved in the production of tempoyak and its potential as a resource for science education based on ethnoscience. The methodology employed was qualitative descriptive research, utilising interviews and a distribution of questionnaires. The results of the study indicate that the tempoyak production process involves fermentation by microorganisms, which causes physical and chemical changes in the durian. These concepts relate to biotechnology, microbiology, and changes in substances within the natural sciences. This study demonstrates that tempoyak production can be utilised as a contextual learning resource whilst introducing the local wisdom of the Lampung community to students.

Abstract

The low level of student activeness and problem-solving ability in Social Studies (IPS) learning remains a challenge that requires innovative learning approaches. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in IPS learning for sixth-grade students at SDN 31 Selayo and examine its influence on student activeness and problem-solving ability from the teacher’s perspective. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the sixth-grade homeroom teacher, supported by document analysis and literature review. The findings indicate that prior to implementing PBL, the learning process was teacher-centered, resulting in low student participation, where students rarely asked questions, hesitated to express opinions, and struggled to connect lesson content to real-life situations. Following the implementation of PBL, noticeable improvements were observed, as students became more active in asking questions, expressing ideas, participating in discussions, and presenting solutions collaboratively, while also demonstrating increased confidence in communication and argumentation. In terms of problem-solving ability, students showed progress in identifying problems, collecting relevant information, generating alternative solutions, and evaluating solutions critically before making conclusions. Although several challenges emerged during implementation, including students’ unfamiliarity with independent learning, time management issues, and increased classroom complexity, these obstacles were gradually addressed through adaptive teaching strategies. The findings suggest that PBL effectively creates a more interactive, collaborative, and critical learning environment, thereby improving student activeness and problem-solving ability in elementary Social Studies learning.

Abstract

This study aims to explain how forms of social mimesis emerge in Budi Darma's short story "Orang Tua Tanpa Nama" (Old Man Without a Name) and to describe how social reality is represented in the story. The method used in this study is qualitative, with a sociology of literature approach and social mimesis theory. The research data were obtained through literary studies and a close reading of short stories in the collection "Bloomington People" (1980). For data analysis, the Miles and Huberman model was used, consisting of three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that this short story displays four main forms of social mimesis: the alienation and marginalization of the main character, imbalances in power relations, collective indifference, and dehumanization in modern society, as well as the narrative strategies used by the author to emphasize social criticism. These findings indicate that Budi Darma's work not only depicts social reality but also contains a critique of society's increasingly individualistic and heartless life.

Abstract

This study aims to explore language errors in phonology, morphology, and syntax in the film "Ayah, Ini Arahnya ke Mana, Ya?" (Father, This is the Direction to Where, Ya?), written by Kuntz Agus. Film, as a form of mass communication, functions not only as a means of recreation but also as a representation of everyday language use. Language error analysis was conducted to identify various forms of deviations that occur in the characters' dialogues. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method, using listening and recording techniques to identify utterances containing errors in phonology, morphology, and syntax. Phonological errors include changes, omissions, or additions of sounds that do not comply with Indonesian language rules. Morphological errors include the use of affixes, word formation, and inappropriate word choice. Meanwhile, syntactic errors include inaccuracies in constructing phrases, clauses, and sentences, which impact the effectiveness of communication. The findings of this study are expected to provide a general overview of language use in Indonesian films and serve as a reference for learning correct and effective Indonesian. In addition, this study can also broaden insights into language error analysis in audiovisual media, a field of applied linguistics.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low learning outcomes of second-grade students at SDN Rejosari 01 on environmental damage material. The learning process was still dominated by lecture methods and textbooks, causing students difficulty in understanding abstract concepts. This study aimed to determine the effect of environmental diorama media on students’ learning outcomes regarding environmental damage material. The study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design through a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The sample consisted of 27 second-grade students at SDN Rejosari 01. Data collection techniques used learning outcome tests in the form of pretests and posttests. Data analysis used descriptive quantitative analysis. The results showed an increase in students’ learning outcomes after using environmental diorama media. The average pretest score of 57.04 increased to 89.63 in the posttest. Students also became more active, enthusiastic, and easier to understand the material during the learning process. The use of diorama media helped students understand the relationship between human behavior and environmental damage concretely through three-dimensional visualization. Therefore, environmental diorama media is effective in improving elementary school students’ learning outcomes on environmental damage material.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Total Quality Management (TQM) in the context of international regulations and standards and its implications for organizational performance. The study employs a qualitative approach using a library research method through a systematic review of reputable scientific literature. The findings indicate that TQM has a direct effect on organizational performance and an indirect effect mediated by risk-based thinking, which enhances the organization’s ability to manage risks and uncertainties. In addition, contextual factors such as organizational readiness, institutional pressure, and sector characteristics act as moderating variables influencing the strength of these relationships. The integration of TQM with international standards such as ISO 9001 strengthens organizational legitimacy, consistency, and global competitiveness. This study proposes an integrative conceptual model explaining the multidimensional relationship between TQM, international regulations, and organizational performance. The findings contribute theoretically and provide practical implications for developing more adaptive and effective quality management systems.

Abstract

Increasing competition among educational institutions requires schools to develop effective strategies to enhance public trust and attract prospective students. In this context, the principal’s leadership plays a crucial role in determining a school’s ability to sustain its existence and increase student enrollment. This study aims to analyze the role of principal leadership in increasing the number of students and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting its implementation at SD Inpres 2 Sigenti, Parigi Moutong Regency. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The data were analyzed using an interactive model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation. The findings reveal that the principal performed a strategic leadership role through four major efforts: conducting school promotion and socialization programs, providing accessible and transparent student admission services, developing attractive academic and extracurricular programs, and strengthening partnerships with parents and the community. Supporting factors included effective leadership, the quality of school programs, and parental involvement, while inhibiting factors consisted of limited public understanding of the zoning policy, administrative registration constraints, and competition from other schools. The implementation of these strategies contributed to a gradual increase in student enrollment over recent years. The study concludes that proactive, innovative, and communicative principal leadership significantly contributes to enhancing school attractiveness and strengthening public trust in educational institutions. These findings provide practical implications for school management in developing sustainable student recruitment strategies.
