Abstract

COVID-19 is in a transitional phase towards becoming endemic, which means individuals with comorbidities are at risk of contracting the disease. On average, individuals who succumb to COVID-19 have at least one comorbidity. Therefore, individuals with comorbidities should be cautious and adhere to health protocols. The research aims to determine the relationship between education, knowledge, attitudes, and COVID-19 prevention among patients with comorbidities at the Kuta Alam Community Health Center in Banda Aceh. This study is observational with a cross-sectional design. Data collection took place from March 2nd to 13th, 2023, involving 100 individuals with comorbidities at the Kuta Alam Community Health Center in Banda Aceh. The research findings indicate that out of 100 individuals with comorbidities, the most common comorbidity is hypertension (60%), with 78% having one comorbidity, and 62% being COVID-19 survivors. Respondents with higher education levels showed that 98.4% made good efforts in preventing COVID-19. Additionally, respondents with good knowledge demonstrated that 93.8% made good preventive efforts, while those with a positive attitude showed 96.9% engagement in preventive measures. The Spearman rank test results at a 95% confidence interval and α of 0.05 showed correlations between education, knowledge, and attitudes with COVID-19 prevention among comorbid patients, obtaining respective values of (P value = 0.000, r = 0.871), (P value = 0.000, r = 0.778), and (P value = 0.000, r = 0.847). In conclusion, there exists a strong correlation between education, knowledge, attitudes, and COVID-19 prevention among comorbid patients at the Kuta Alam Community Health Center in Banda Aceh. Higher education levels correspond to better knowledge and favorable attitudes towards COVID-19 prevention among individuals with comorbidities.

Abstract

Lung cancer is one of the deadliest cancers in both men and women. Lung cancer is generally divided into 2, categories: small-cell lung carcinoma and non-small-cell lung carcinoma. Small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) represents approximately 15% of all lung cancers. Paraneoplastic syndromes occur in 10% of lung cancer cases and constitute a group of disorders associated with the secretion of functional polypeptides or hormones from tumor cells. The syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone is a paraneoplastic syndrome that is closely related to SCLC and is associated with worse survival. The key to understanding SIADH is that the hyponatremia that occurs in this syndrome is not caused by Na+ deficiency but rather by excess fluid. The syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone that occurs is a secondary event caused by the release of antidiuretic hormone due to tumor lysis or because the tumor releases ectopic ADH. Hyponatremia in SCLC is a negative prognostic factor in hospitalized patients and patients with advanced disease

Abstract

The use of cotton buds is considered to be able to cause cerumen impaction in the external ear canal. However, the use of cotton buds in Indonesia is still quite high. This study aims to examines the relationship between the use of cotton buds and the incidence of cerumen obturans. This study used a cross-sectional study design involving 56 respondents who routinely use cotton buds. Based on the study, a significant relationship was obtained between the frequency and depth (p-value 0.026 and p-value 0.008) of cotton bud use and the incidence of cerumen obturans. Students who frequently use cotton buds have a 5.625 times greater risk of experiencing cerumen obturans compared to those who rarely use them. Students who use cotton buds up to the pars osseus (2/3 of the inner ear canal) have a 4.444 times greater risk of experiencing cerumen obturans compared to those who only use cotton buds up to the pars cartilaginosa (1/3 of the outer ear canal). In conclusion, health education programs regarding the use of cotton buds need to be developed to increase awareness of how to maintain safe and effective ear hygiene.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus and its consequences are significantly influenced by oxidative stress. Sunkist and lime oranges are a nutritional powerhouse, offering a range of health benefits due to their high content of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Key compounds like anthocyanins, flavanones, and hydroxycinnamic acid contribute to their potential positive impact to reduce oxidative stress. Therefore, the effect of nanoparticle granules combination of sunkist orange peel and lime peel was investigated on diabetic rats. Twenty male Wistar rats were randomly distributed:  Group 1 as control group given distilled water, Group 2 as DM group with alloxan, Group 3 with DM + NGSLP 100mg / kgBW, Group 4 with DM + NGSLP 200mg / kgBW. Rats with diabetes were treated by intraperitoneal injection with 100 mg/kg alloxan. NGSLP treatment was given for 14 days to each treatment group. At the end, the blood and heart tissue were collected and used to determine the GPx enzyme, SOD, MDA, CAT and histological evaluation. Diabetes induction increased the level of MDA and decreased after treated with NGSLP. In diabetic rats treated with NGSLP showed an increase in SOD, GPX and CAT in blood. Histopathological findings of heart tissue showed the protective effect of NGSLP in rats with diabetic. This study revealed that NGSLP has antioxidant effects in the blood and heart of alloxan-induced diabetic rats.

Abstract

Nearly 3 years have passed since the WHO declared COVID-19 as a pandemic. The pandemic left some problems, including cardiac, even after it has gone. Myocarditis is a common cardiac complication among COVID-19 infections. We present an interesting case of a 23-year-old male admitted with chronic heart failure after COVID-19 infections. A 23-Years Old Male patient came to our emergency department (ER) with Heart Failure (HF) symptoms and signs. He had history of flu like symptom, with positive COVID marker 3 weeks prior to admission. Patient was a sailor with history of healthy lifestyle, no cardiovascular risk factor and normal medical checkup result. Cardiomegaly with LVH configuration appeared in chest x-ray. The ECG 12-lead showed sinus bradycardia with PVC multifocal and episode of Torsade de Pointes auto convert. Echocardiography revealed reduced of Ejection Fraction (EF). Patient also had history of recurrent hospital admission with ADHF within 6 months. Cardiac MRI was done to distinguish the etiology of heart failure which support the diagnosis of non-ischemia cardiomyopathy caused by chronic myocarditis. From those data, we conclude that the etiology of heart failure in this patient was due to chronic myocarditis related Covid-19 infection. Myocarditis in post COVID-19 condition is an uncommon but still possible condition that needs to be considered. This case report emphasizes the etiology of HF must be sought in all cases, because its recognition can direct the therapy and influence the prognosis of these patients.
