Abstract

Fungal infections are quite common in people in tropical countries including Indonesia. Candida albicans is a fungus that can cause infection in humans. Infection caused by Candida albicans is called candidiasis. Diagnosis of Candida albicans with a culture system aims to identify and confirm the results of microscopic examination. Alternative media for fungal growth from various carbohydrate sources have been widely used. Alternative media for fungal growth used included corn, cassava and sweet potato. This study aims to determine the growth of Candida albicans on media with a combination of corn, cassava and sweet potato. The source of data was obtained from primary data, namely data on the results of differences in growth observed from the number of Candida albicans colonies formed on a combination of corn, cassava, and yellow sweet potato media. Data analysis was carried out by statistical tests, including normality test and homogeneity test. If the normality test and homogeneity test meet the requirements, then proceed with the ANOVA and post hoc tests. The results showed that the growth of Candida albicans after 48 hours of incubation, the average number of colonies on corn-cassava media was 58.4x1011 CFU/ml colonies with a colony diameter of 1 mm. Colonies on yellow sweet potato-corn media were 51.5x1011 CFU/ml with a diameter of 1 mm. Colonies on PDA media were 24.8x1011 CFU/ml with a diameter of 1-2mm. In this study, it can be seen that there is a significant difference (p<0.05) in the growth of Candida albicans fungal colonies in each group of media with the highest colony growth, namely on corn and cassava media.

Abstract

Purple cabbage (Brassica oleracea L. var. capitata f. rubra) is a plant from the Brassicaceae or Cruciferae family that can be grown in both highlands and lowlands. The amount of purple cabbage production is relatively high, but utilization by consumers is still low. The choice of how to use purple cabbage is to make juice, because it is easy to make and only takes a short time, and the freshness can still be enjoyed. The way of consuming juice is seen as more relevant and enjoyable for the general public than having to eat large amounts of purple cabbage. Anthocyanins and vitamin C are water-soluble compounds that have a major role in providing antioxidant activity of purple cabbage juice. Both anthocyanins and vitamin C are compounds that are easily oxidized by O2 in the air so that the length of contact with air during storage will affect their stability. Likewise, storage temperature is a factor that affects the stability of anthocyanins and vitamin C which will have an impact on their antioxidant activity. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the correlation of anthocyanin levels, vitamin C levels, and antioxidant activity of purple cabbage juice at different temperatures and storage periods. Determination of anthocyanin levels, vitamin C levels, and antioxidant activity was carried out by UV-Vis spectrophotometry. On the 7th day of storage, the anthocyanin content decreased by 3.7% at cold temperature and 22.5% at room temperature; vitamin C content decreased by 59.1% at cold temperature and 75.7 at room temperature; antioxidant activity decreased with an increase of 9.8% IC50 at cold temperature and 24.9% at room temperature. Purple cabbage juice decreased its antioxidant activity after the crop was stored for 4 days and 7 days, both stored at cold and room temperature. This was caused by a decrease in the content of the main antioxidant compounds in purple cabbage, namely anthocyanins and vitamin C, during the storage process.

Abstract

Maternal anxiety facing sectio caesarea that is not treated properly can cause physical and psychological changes that can eventually increase the work of sympathetic nerves and there will be an increase in heart rate, breath frequency, blood pressure, and in general reduce energy levels in patients to the detriment of patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of endorphine massage against sectio caesarea preoperative anxiety in primigravida mothers in the Central Surgery Room of Bandung City Hospital. The research design is a Quasi-Experiment using experimental groups and control groups. The population is 193 people. The samples used for each group were 18 people with a purposive sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using the Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale questionnaire. Data analysis used bivariate analysis in the form of the Wilcoxon test and the Mann Whitney test. The results of the study found that anxiety before the endorphine massage intervention was mostly moderate 14 people (77.8%) and after the intervention more than half were mild 12 people (66.7%). Before the deep breath relaxation intervention was mostly moderate 16 people (88.9%) and after the intervention more than half were moderate 13 people (72.2%). There is an effect of endorphine massage on anxiety (p-value 0.000 < 0.05). There is an effect of deep breath relaxation on anxiety (p-value 0.004 < 0.05). There is a difference in anxiety between the intervention of endorphine massage with deep breath relaxation and endorphine massage is more effective than deep breath relaxation (p-value 0.003 < 0.05). Endoprhine massage intervention can overcome anxiety problems because it can stimulate endorphine hormones which can provide a comfort effect. The conclusion was found that endorphine massage can reduce anxiety. Advice for hospitals can make endoprhine massage a standard operating procedure in dealing with anxiety problems of preoperative patients.
