Abstract

The School Field Introduction Program (Pengenalan Lapangan Persekolahan or PLP) serves as a crucial practical experience for education students in preparing to become professional teachers. However, the interest in becoming a teacher is not always rooted in intrinsic motivation; it is often influenced by external factors such as family support. This study aims to examine the influence of PLP and family support on the interest in becoming a teacher among 2021 cohort students of the Social Science Education Program (PIPS) at Universitas Jambi, both partially and simultaneously. This quantitative research employed an ex post facto method. The sample consisted of 73 students selected using proportionate stratified random sampling, with data collected through an online questionnaire via Google Forms. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. The results revealed that partially, PLP had a positive and significant effect on the interest in becoming a teacher (tvalue = 3.818; sig = 0.002), and family support also had a positive and significant effect (tvalue = 7.031; sig = 0.000). Simultaneously, PLP and family support significantly influenced students' interest in becoming teachers (Fvalue = 25.275; sig = 0.000), with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 61.9%. These findings are expected to provide insights for educational institutions in designing strategies to enhance the quality of PLP and foster collaboration with students' families. This study also opens further discussion on how other external factors, such as the social environment and media influence, contribute to shaping students' perceptions and interest in the teaching profession amid the challenges of educational modernization.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation, challenges, and solutions in applying the Merdeka Curriculum in Economics subjects for Grade XI Social Science students at SMAN 11 Muaro Jambi. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving the principal, curriculum vice principal, teachers, and students. The results show that the Merdeka Curriculum has been implemented through project-based learning, various assessment types, and the use of ATP and teaching modules. However, teachers face obstacles in planning, implementing, and evaluating learning, including limited media, time constraints, and insufficient technological skills. To overcome these issues, teachers collaborate through teacher working groups, develop independent teaching materials, and participate in training. These findings highlight the importance of continuous support for teachers in effectively implementing the Merdeka Curriculum.

Abstract

This study aims to determine how the implementation of Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning strategies improves students' critical thinking skills at MA Nurul Imam, identify differences in critical thinking skills before and after the implementation of PBL, and analyze factors that influence the success and failure of implementing the strategy. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and learning documentation. The results showed that the implementation of PBL at MA Nurul Imam was quite effective, providing a more active learning atmosphere and encouraging students to participate in solving problems critically. There was a significant increase in students' critical thinking skills after the implementation of the PBL strategy, which was seen from students' ability to identify problems, analyze information, and compile and communicate solutions systematically. Factors for the success of PBL implementation include teacher readiness, relevance of learning problems, and active student involvement. On the other hand, the obstacles faced include limited facilities, a learning culture that still relies on memorization, and limited learning time. This study recommends strengthening teacher training, improving learning facilities, and supporting school policies to optimize the use of PBL as an effective learning strategy in shaping students' critical thinking skills according to the demands of 21st century education.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) plays an important role in shaping the character, morals, and spirituality of students, as well as instilling critical thinking skills that are much needed in the era of globalization and digitalization. However, measuring critical thinking skills in PAI learning still faces challenges, especially related to the reliability of the assessment instruments used. This study aims to analyze the reliability of the critical thinking skills assessment instrument in PAI learning in class V of SDN Koroulon 1. The results of the analysis show that the assessment instrument has a good reliability value, with a Cronbach Alpha coefficient ≥ 0.7, so it can be relied on to measure students' critical thinking skills consistently. This finding emphasizes the importance of using reliable instruments in evaluating PAI learning to ensure the achievement of 21st century learning goals, namely forming students who are critical, reflective, and have Islamic character. This study recommends the development of more valid and relevant assessment instruments and the use of instruments that have been tested for reliability by teachers and researchers in PAI learning.

Abstract

The development of global education reflects a paradigm shift in curriculum design toward a deep learning approach, which emphasizes critical, reflective, and contextual learning. In the context of Islamic Religious Education (IRE), this approach creates opportunities to integrate religious moderation values in a transformative and relevant way in response to contemporary challenges. This study aims to examine global trends in deep learning curriculum and analyze its relevance to strengthening moderation values in IRE in Indonesia. This research employs a qualitative descriptive literature review of national and international publications between 2020 and 2024. The results reveal that deep learning strategies can foster students' critical thinking, tolerance, and adaptability in facing diversity. Scholars such as Michael Fullan and Andy Hargreaves are widely recognized for their work in deep learning education, while in the field of religious moderation in Indonesia, figures such as Siti Musdah Mulia, Nasaruddin Umar, and Budhy Munawar-Rachman have made significant contributions to promoting inclusive Islamic values. This study recommends integrating deep learning principles into the IRE curriculum as a strategy to develop a moderate, contextual, and socially responsive model of religious education.

Abstract

The prolonged conflict in Sudan has severely affected the Islamic education system, leading to infrastructure damage, declining quality of learning, and the erosion of Islamic values within society. This article aims to examine the reconstruction strategies of Islamic education in post-conflict Sudan and explore efforts to strengthen Islamic values through formal and non-formal educational pathways. The study employs a qualitative-descriptive method using a literature review approach, analyzing academic documents, international reports, and Sudanese national education policies. The findings reveal that reconstruction efforts include curriculum revitalization emphasizing peace and justice, re-training of religious teachers, and collaboration among the government, civil society, and religious institutions. Islamic education also functions as a strategic tool for promoting social reconciliation and strengthening societal cohesion. These findings affirm that Islamic education plays a central role not only in religious instruction but also in rebuilding a post-conflict society that is peaceful, inclusive, and grounded in moral values.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between EFL students' participation in classroom presentations and their academic success, specifically measured by Grade Point Average (GPA). It aims to determine if there is a significant correlation between overall participation in these presentations and GPA, and to identify which specific aspects of participation such as contribution, interaction, preparation, confidence, and willingness—demonstrate the strongest link to GPA. Employing a quantitative correlational design, the research involved a total of 165 EFL students from the English Education Study Program at Sriwijaya University. These participants were carefully selected using stratified random sampling techniques. Analysis, conducted using Spearman's rank-order correlation, revealed a weak yet statistically significant positive correlation between students' overall involvement in classroom presentations and their GPA (r=0.174, p=0.025). Furthermore, among the various dimensions of participation examined, “Contribution” and “Confidence” emerged with weak but statistically significant positive correlations with GPA (r=0.188, p=0.016 for Contribution; r=0.188, p=0.015 for Confidence). These findings suggest that while actively participating in classroom presentations generally benefits academic progress, the quality of students' input and their self-assurance during delivery appear to be more influential factors than mere general readiness or preparatory efforts. The study offers valuable implications for educators, encouraging them to foster more dynamic learning environments that prioritize meaningful student contributions and build confidence during presentations.

Abstract

This study explores the experiences of Indonesian pre-service teachers in teaching economics through the SEA Teacher Program Batch IX in the Philippines, using SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) to strengthen 21st-century educator competencies. The research employs a qualitative phenomenological approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews with four informants who participated in the program. Data analysis was conducted using NVivo 12 software to code and categorize data based on the SWOT framework. The findings reveal that cross-border teaching practice provides professionally and personally enriching experiences. Strengths include material preparation, learning strategy flexibility, and institutional support, while weaknesses emerge from English language limitations and lack of international experience. Opportunities include professional career development, international networking expansion, and exposure to inclusive and professional learning environments. Threats encompass educational system differences, limited program duration, insufficient supporting facilities, and cultural adaptation challenges. The study concludes that the SEA Teacher program significantly impacts the readiness of 21st-century educator candidates, though improvements are needed in program duration, pre-departure training enhancement, and English language proficiency optimization.

Abstract

One of the essential components of learning the Indonesian language that junior high school students must master is the ability to write report texts based on observation results. However, many students face difficulties in composing reports that follow proper rules and structure. Therefore, to enhance students’ writing skills, an effective learning model must be implemented. The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of the Team-Based Project model and the Snowball Throwing model in improving the report-writing abilities of eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Cibalong, Garut Regency, based on observation results. The method used is quasi-experimental, with a pretest-posttest control group design. To compare the posttest results of the two groups, non-parametric tests such as the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene's homogeneity test, t-test, and Mann-Whitney test were used to analyze the data. The results show that both learning models significantly improved students’ writing abilities, as indicated by normalized gain scores falling within the moderate to high category. However, based on the higher average normalized gain score, the Team-Based Project model demonstrated a greater improvement compared to the Snowball Throwing model.
