Abstract

Cultural literacy refers to the understanding of values, norms, and cultural practices that form part of social life. In the educational context, cultural literacy plays an important role in shaping students’ character, particularly in developing social skills. This study aims to describe the implementation of cultural literacy within the school environment and its contribution to the development of students’ social skills. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that activities such as reading folktales, illustrating local cultural symbols, presenting one’s own and others’ cultures, effectively foster social skills including cooperation, respect, and empathy. The study concludes that cultural literacy can serve as an effective strategy for strengthening character education and enhancing students’ social skills in the school setting.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation and impact of the Kacakarya Movement (Kami Membaca Kami Berkarya – We Read, We Create) in enhancing reading literacy culture among fourth-grade students at SDN Padarincang 1. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data sources included the school principal, teachers, students, and supporting documents. The results indicate that Kacakarya activities are systematically and participatively designed through school deliberations involving multiple stakeholders. Reading materials are selected according to students’ proficiency levels and managed via an organized borrowing system. In addition to reading, students are encouraged to write summaries and produce creative works, such as poems and stories. The program effectively increases students’ reading interest, comprehension, and self-confidence. Positive outcomes also include higher library visit frequency, active parental involvement, and the creation of a more conducive and inspiring learning environment. Supported by literacy facilities and proactive homeroom teachers, Kacakarya proves effective in fostering sustainable literacy habits. The findings may serve as a reference for other schools seeking to develop contextual and integrated literacy programs, promoting both academic and creative growth.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in improving early reading skills among first-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Kota Langsa. This research employed a quasi-experimental method. Data were collected through tests and analyzed using ANCOVA. The sample consisted of students from classes 1A and 1B at SD Negeri 1 Kota Langsa. The results showed that before treatment (pretest), the average early reading scores of students in the experimental and control groups were nearly the same, at 55.3 and 54.8, respectively. However, after treatment (posttest), the experimental group’s average score increased significantly to 86.4, while the control group’s score rose modestly to 69.2. A one-way ANOVA test was conducted to determine whether the difference between the two groups was statistically significant. The ANOVA results showed an F-value of 9.87, which exceeded the F-table value (? = 0.05), indicating a significant difference between the groups. The p-value = 0.003 (< 0.05) also led to the rejection of the null hypothesis (H?). Thus, it can be concluded that the PjBL model has a significant and positive effect on improving students’ early reading skills compared to conventional teaching methods.

Abstract

The transition from Early Childhood Education (PAUD) to Elementary School (SD) is a crucial stage in a child’s development, involving social and emotional adjustments as well as adaptation to a more complex curriculum. This study aims to explore and understand the strategies implemented to support the PAUD–SD transition at SD Negeri 5 Rambang. The main focus of this research is on the application of effective transition strategies, which include environmental adaptation and the development of children’s social skills. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation to gain an in-depth understanding of the transition process. The findings are expected to provide insights into the importance of fulfilling the developmental foundations of children—cognitive, social, emotional, and psychomotor—and to offer practical recommendations for teachers and parents in preparing children to face more formal and complex education settings.

Abstract

In line with the vision and mission of cultural preservation of the Ministry of National Education and Culture, cultural development is prioritized on Increasing Awareness and Understanding of National Identity and Character; Increasing Public Appreciation of Diversity, as well as Creativity of Cultural Values, traditions, beliefs, history, Art, and Film; Improving the Quality of Management, Protection, Development, and Utilization of Cultural Heritage; Increasing Internalization and Cultural Diplomacy; Development of Cultural Resources; Improving Cultural Facilities and Infrastructure. In fact, in the current global era, the transformation is progressing very rapidly which then leads Indonesian society to a knowledge-based society without losing the national identity. Seeing the current phenomenon in the implementation of the independent curriculum in schools, especially at the elementary school level. Where literacy skills are one of the priorities of educational implementation in schools. However, a constraint is the lack of student interest in reading. One of the causes of student low interest in reading is due to the lack of interesting reading materials for students. This is one of the reasons for the urgency of developing this Pocket Book. The Pocket Book that will be developed with special characteristics based on local culture, namely folklore of the Suku Dayak Desa in Sintang Regency. The method in this research is the Development Method, namely creating and developing a Pocket Book of Folk Stories of the Suku Dayak Desa.

Abstract

This study aims to develop the UBATU learning media based on ethnoscience integrated with the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model to examine students’ self-regulated learning abilities, including their metacognitive, motivational, and behavioral aspects in accordance with current educational developments. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE development model. The results showed that the average score from the material expert validation was 94.6%, categorized as valid, while the media expert validation obtained an average score of 91.94%, categorized as highly valid. The product feasibility test achieved an average score of 97.60%, indicating that the media was highly feasible for classroom use. Furthermore, students’ pre-questionnaire score totaled 660, and the post-questionnaire score reached 928, resulting in an N-gain score of 0.71, which falls into the high category for improving students’ self-regulated learning during the learning process. In conclusion, the developed UBATU media is valid for use in the learning process and effectively enhances the self-regulated learning abilities of fourth-grade elementary students.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) model assisted by flipbook media in enhancing fourth-grade students’ critical thinking skills in social science (IPAS) learning. The research employed a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were 27 fourth-grade students at SD 2 Getas Pejaten. Data were collected through tests, observations, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis included the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and paired sample t-test using SPSS. The results indicated that the data were normally distributed and there was a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. The average pretest score was 44.48, which increased to 83.19 in the posttest, with a significance value of 0.000. These findings suggest that the STAD model assisted by flipbook media is effective in improving students’ critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the use of the storytelling method through folktales in instilling character values among elementary school students. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, involving classroom teachers and fourth-grade students at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Krian, Sidoarjo Regency. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and visual documentation. The findings indicate that the storytelling method not only enhances students’ imagination but also effectively instills character values such as honesty, responsibility, empathy, and respect for parents. Storytelling enables students to understand life values in a contextual and engaging manner while fostering emotional involvement in the learning process. Using folktales as learning material also strengthens students’ cultural identity and connects local wisdom with their personal experiences. Although challenges were found, such as varying student interests and limited locally relevant stories, teachers managed these through creative and adaptive approaches. Therefore, the storytelling method using folktales is proven to be an effective medium for character education at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze local wisdom-based creativity through tie-dye (jumputan) t-shirt projects at SDN 1 Purbalingga Lor in implementing the Pancasila Student Profile (P5) strengthening program. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using phenomenology to understand the phenomenon experienced by the subjects in a specific context. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed through data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that P5 learning in grade IV introduces students to local wisdom, specifically tie-dye t-shirts, as part of the Merdeka Curriculum designed to develop students’ character in line with the Pancasila Student Profile, particularly in the creative dimension. The study concludes that implementing P5 projects based on local wisdom can serve as an effective strategy to foster students’ creativity.

Abstract

Character education is essential for developing students’ personalities, particularly religious character, which serves as a core value in strengthening student character education guidelines. In this regard, schools play a vital role in shaping students’ religious character. One way to achieve educational goals with strong character is through the optimal implementation of school culture. This study aims to describe the process of school culture in shaping students’ religious character, to identify the religious character of students, and to analyze the role of school culture in developing religious character among students at Asshiddiqiyah Islamic Boarding School Elementary School. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The participants consisted of five informants, including the principal, the first- and fifth-grade homeroom teachers, and two tahfidz (Qur’an memorization) teachers for grades 1 and 5. Data were collected through overt and covert observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman (1984) model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification. The findings indicate that the habituation of school culture—such as the culture of reading the Qur’an, congregational prayer, and greeting—plays a significant role in shaping students’ religious character at Asshiddiqiyah Islamic Boarding School Elementary School.
