Abstract

Bullying has occurred among children in Indonesia at various levels of education, from high school, middle school, elementary school, and even early childhood education. Bullying in Indonesia has brought a lot of psychological and physical trauma. Following these problems, this research aims to determine the bullying behavior that occurs in young children in cities and villages along with the largest percentage of the types of bullying behavior that occurs. Apart from that, this research also tested the relationship between several children's characteristics, such as age, gender, body shape, and self-confidence on bullying behavior. This research method is descriptive quantitative and correlational with a sampling technique using cluster sampling. Research data collection used a survey method by distributing questionnaires to 4 PAUD schools in Pontianak City and 4 PAUD schools in Kubu Raya Regency. From the 172 data obtained, it shows that every child, both in the city and in the village, experiences all types of bullying behavior with the largest percentage being physical bullying. This research also shows that age, gender, and self-confidence have a significant relationship to bullying behavior. Based on the research results, participation from various parties is needed to prevent and deal with bullying problems that begin in early childhood who are entering the golden age. Not only in cities, bullying in villages also needs to be given more attention, because bullying incidents in villages have a higher percentage than in cities.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the correlation between gender as a mediator in children's engagement in kindergarten, using a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The study involved 70 children aged 5-6 years at Fadillah Amal 3 Kindergarten, Padang City, West Sumatra. The research instrument consisted of 42 questions, divided into 22 items related to engagement and 20 items related to gender, using a Likert scale with scores ranging from 1 to 5. Data collection was conducted through questionnaires filled out by classroom teachers. The results indicate a significant correlation between gender and children's engagement. The Pearson correlation test showed a coefficient value of 0.877, indicating a strong positive relationship between the gender variable and engagement. Further Paired Sample Test analysis revealed significant differences in children's engagement based on gender, with girls showing higher levels of engagement compared to boys. The determination coefficient test demonstrated that gender strongly contributes to children's engagement in kindergarten, with a coefficient value of 0.77 for the overall relationship, 0.788 for boys, and 0.53 for girls. These findings highlight the importance of considering gender differences when designing inclusive and effective learning strategies in early childhood education environments. This research provides valuable insights for educators and parents in enhancing children's engagement in kindergarten through gender-sensitive approaches.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze teachers' strategies in addressing negative behaviors among early childhood students in kindergarten settings. Negative behaviors in early childhood, such as fighting, taking others' belongings, and disobeying rules, have become an increasing problem in early childhood education institutions. These behaviors impact children's social-emotional development and learning effectiveness. This research is essential to identify effective strategies that teachers can apply to address such negative behaviors. The study was conducted at PKK Kartini Kindergarten using a descriptive qualitative approach. Data was collected through direct observation, interviews with 10 teachers, and a study of school policy documents. Data analysis was conducted thematically using NVivo software to identify main patterns and themes. The results show that teachers at PKK Kartini Kindergarten implement various strategies, including social and emotional skills development, group discussions, sharing exercises, and positive reinforcement. These approaches are supported by Bandura's social skills theory, Vygotsky's social development theory, Hirschi's social control theory, Skinner's positive reinforcement theory, and Erikson's emotional development theory. Although these strategies are effective, challenges include consistency in implementation and parental involvement. This study contributes to improving the quality of early childhood education by offering practical recommendations for addressing negative behaviors and creating a positive and productive learning environment.

Abstract

Low numeracy skills in early childhood affect primary school readiness. Children will have difficulty facing challenges in mathematics, problem solving, other subjects, daily activities, self-confidence, motivation to learn, and social interaction. This study aims to analyze the level of numeracy skills of children aged 5-6 years in the Surakarta Residential and identify aspects of numeracy skills that are still low, so that it can be a reference in providing appropriate stimulation. The research method used a survey. Data collection techniques through a numeracy assessment questionnaire and validated by expert judgment. The sampling technique used convenience sampling by randomly selecting two kindergartens in each district / city in Surakarta Prefecture, so that 386 respondents of children aged 5-6 years were obtained. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that 13.2% of the children had high numeracy skills, 67.9% were in the medium category, and 18.9% were in the low category. Of the five aspects of numeracy measured (number, geometry, measurement, computation, and data analysis), the number aspect was found to be the most mastered by the children. The geometry, measurement, and computation aspects were in the moderate category. The data analysis aspect showed the lowest results, indicating difficulties in understanding more complex numerical concepts. These findings suggest the need for more innovative and inquiry-based learning strategies to improve children's numeracy skills. The research recommendations emphasize the importance of strengthening activity-based learning methods, using interactive teaching aids, and increasing the involvement of teachers and parents in supporting early numeracy skills.
