Abstract

Koperasi Simpan Pinjam (KSP) plays a strategic role in strengthening the people's economy, but still faces various challenges, particularly in financial reporting and the use of information technology. This community service aims to improve the financial and digital literacy of the board members of Koperasi Merah Putih in Ketabang Sub-district, Surabaya, through two integrated approaches: socialization of cooperative financial reporting and the development of a website-based information system. The activity was carried out participatively by involving cooperative board members in every stage, from observation, socialization, website development, to training on system usage. The website was developed using PHP programming language and includes key features such as transaction recording, member management, and financial reporting. The results of the activity showed an increase in the board members' understanding of financial reporting and initial adoption of digital technology, although challenges remain in adapting to technology due to limited human resources. This activity demonstrates that the integration of financial literacy and digitalization of cooperative information systems can strengthen cooperative governance in a more accountable, efficient, and modern manner.

Abstract

Permasalahan sampah di kawasan perkotaan seperti Kelurahan Lakarsantri, Surabaya, kerap menurunkan kualitas estetika dan kenyamanan lingkungan. Volume limbah rumah tangga yang terus meningkat dan minimnya sarana pemilahan menyebabkan tumpukan sampah berserakan, memicu kerusakan visual dan potensi kesehatan akibat berkembangnya vektor penyakit. Penelitian ini mengevaluasi pengembangan program bank sampah berbasis komunitas dengan fokus pada peningkatan estetika lingkungan melalui penyediaan tempat sampah terpilah. Metode yang digunakan meliputi observasi kondisi lapangan, survei persepsi masyarakat, sosialisasi pemilahan sampah, pelatihan teknis operasional bank sampah, serta evaluasi pemahaman peserta melalui diskusi dan kuis. Hasil menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam kesadaran dan partisipasi warga RW 01 dalam proses pemilahan sampah organik dan anorganik. Fasilitas tempat sampah bersekatan memudahkan proses penyortiran, sehingga sampah terorganisir dengan rapi dan mengurangi tumpukan di area publik. Selain itu, program ini mendorong terciptanya budaya kolektif tanggung jawab lingkungan, di mana warga secara aktif mendukung keberlanjutan bank sampah serta menjaga kebersihan estetis permukiman. Dampak langsung terlihat pada penataan visual kawasan yang lebih bersih dan tertib, sementara manfaat jangka panjang meliputi pengurangan volume sampah ke Tempat Pembuangan Akhir dan peningkatan kualitas hidup masyarakat. Temuan ini menggarisbawahi pentingnya kolaborasi pemerintah lokal, pengelola bank sampah, dan partisipasi warga dalam menciptakan lingkungan perkotaan yang bersih, sehat, dan estetis.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to empower MSMEs in Kalisari Urban Village, Surabaya, through digitalliteracy enhancement and online marketing training. The program was initiated due to the limited digitalknowledge and marketing skills among MSME actors in promoting their products online. A participatory andeducational approach was employed, consisting of needs assessment, socialization, technical training, and directmentoring. The training focused on utilizing WhatsApp Business, social media (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok),and marketplaces such as Shopee and Tokopedia. The results showed significant improvements in participants’understanding, technical skills, and independence in applying digital marketing strategies. MSME actors wereable to create promotional content, manage business accounts, and utilize platform features to expand their marketreach. The training also fostered an innovative and self-reliant mindset, helping build a sustainable communitybasedbusiness ecosystem in the digital era.Keywords: MSMEs, digital literacy, online marketing, digital training, community empowerment

Abstract

Indonesia’s economic growth has stagnated at around 5%, causing the nation to lag in innovation compared to Vietnam and Malaysia. One key factor is the weak research culture, which results in less impactful innovations. To overcome this, the East Java provincial government launched the School by Research program for senior high schools. SMAN 1 Pare, already implementing a research-oriented approach through the Independent Learning Curriculum, became a strategic starting point. The program aims to build a research culture among students through continuous socialization, orientation, and training in research practices. Conducted as a community service initiative, it combines educational outreach with pre-test and post-test assessments to measure improvements in students’ understanding of scientific writing. Results showed a notable increase in their academic writing skills. Peer learning was also emphasized, with experienced students guiding peers to foster collaborative growth. A scientific writing module, specifically tailored for high school students, was developed and formally handed over to the school as a sustainable resource. This initiative is expected to become a foundation for further activities, such as scientific writing competitions, to enhance creativity, critical thinking, and innovative expression. By sustaining the School by Research model, Indonesia can gradually strengthen its research culture, contributing to improved national innovation performance.

Abstract

The fish farming group in Cepiring District, Kendal Regency, faces a major issue of high fish feed costs, which amount to approximately IDR 4,500,000 per harvest cycle. Dependence on external suppliers causes unpredictable price fluctuations, hindering the increase in farmers' income. Therefore, it is essential to find a solution that can significantly reduce production costs. The objective of this community service program is to reduce fish feed production costs by developing a solar-powered pellet machine, which can independently produce fish feed using renewable energy. The service partner in this program is the Fish Farming Group in Cepiring District, Kendal. The method of this service includes problem analysis, development of solar-powered pellet machine technology, technical training on how to use and maintain the machine, and the implementation of digital marketing to improve market access. The expected outcomes are a 40-50% reduction in fish feed costs per harvest cycle, increased independence for farmers in producing their own fish feed, and improved overall production efficiency. This program is expected to support the sustainability of environmentally friendly fish farming and enhance the economic independence of fish far.

Abstract

The cracker industry is an important part of Surabaya’s traditional culinary heritage and is largely operated by micro-scale enterprises with simple management systems. One such enterprise is the cracker business owned by Mrs. Ponining in East Surabaya. This business faces several challenges, including non-standardized production processes, inconsistent quality control, unsystematic financial record-keeping, and product packaging without a clear brand identity. This community service program aims to enhance the capacity of Mrs. Ponining’s cracker business through assistance in production, business management, and marketing. The interventions include the implementation of simple production standard operating procedures (SOPs), the application of 5S principles to improve workplace organization and hygiene, mentoring in simple yet systematic financial record-keeping, and the development of product packaging and labeling as business identity. Several constraints were encountered during implementation, such as limited time availability and the persistence of traditional business practices. However, these challenges were addressed through gradual mentoring and hands-on assistance tailored to the conditions of micro-scale enterprises. The results indicate improvements in product quality consistency, production efficiency, financial management orderliness, and product packaging. This program is expected to support the sustainability of the cracker business and serve as a model for empowering traditional micro-scale food enterprises in urban areas.

Abstract

Low reading interest among children and adolescents in nonformal religious education institutions remains a challenge in strengthening basic literacy. This condition was also identified among students of TPQ Nurul Iman in Tirtomoyo Village, Ampelgading District, where access to reading materials is limited and structured literacy activities are not yet available. This community service program aimed to develop the Children and Adolescents Reading Club (ARema) as a community-based literacy strengthening initiative within the TPQ environment. The program was implemented from May to July 2024 and involved TPQ administrators, teachers, and students. The implementation stages included needs assessment, literacy awareness sessions for administrators, improvement of the reading space and book collection, regular group reading activities, and continuous mentoring and evaluation. The novelty of this program lies in the integration of literacy space development, scheduled reading club management, and collaborative reading activities accompanied by simple discussions and retelling exercises. The results indicate increased student participation in reading activities, reflected in consistent attendance in reading club meetings, a higher number of completed readings, and improved ability to understand and retell reading materials. These findings demonstrate that community-based reading clubs can serve as an effective approach to strengthening literacy culture within nonformal educational settings. Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a strategic role in the local economy, but many still face obstacles in production efficiency due to technological limitations. Pak Mualiman's Onion Cracker MSME in Sidoarjo Regency is one of the MSMEs that still cuts cracker dough manually, which is time-consuming, produces uneven thickness, and causes worker fatigue. This community service activity aimed to design and provide training on the use of a simple, safe cracker cutting tool that is suitable for the operational conditions of the partner MSME. The implementation method included identifying needs, designing the tool, providing training on its use, and evaluating the application of the tool in the production process. The results of the activity show that the use of the cutting tool can reduce cutting time from 180 minutes to 60 minutes, improve the consistency of the thickness of the pieces to 3 mm, and improve the working position of the operator. These findings indicate that the application of appropriate technology can significantly improve the efficiency and productivity of MSMEs and support business sustainability.

Abstract

This Community Service Activity (PKM) aims to improve the reading literacy skills of junior high school students at Sekolah Indonesia Kuala Lumpur through training in quick and easy extensive reading techniques. The training was conducted by a team of lecturers from the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Department of FBS Unesa, targeting 20 students from the Klang Malaysia Learning Center. The methods used included lectures, discussions, guided training, and mentoring. The training material covered the concepts of extensive reading, speed reading strategies, and effective text comprehension. Participants were given various texts on environmental themes and fables tailored to their age and abilities. After the reading training, students engaged in creative writing activities as a way to apply their reading comprehension skills. The results of the activity showed an increase in enthusiasm, motivation to read, and the ability to comprehend texts quickly. Most participants were able to produce creative writing based on their reading, although some students still required intensive mentoring due to their limited basic reading skills. The outputs of the activity included video documentation, mass media publications, scientific articles, and intellectual property rights certificates. Overall, this training was effective in fostering students' interest in reading and strengthening their literacy skills, and it is recommended to be continued with a sustainable mentoring program.
