Abstract

literacy rate, evidenced by the minimal number of written works produced by its residents. To address this issue, particularly among educators and students, we proposed a community service program aimed at enhancing literacy skills in scientific writing. This program was designed to provide socialization and assistance in writing for students and educators in one of the schools in Bangkalan Regency. The objective of this community service program is to improve the scientific writing skills of educators and students. The implementation process begins with socialization sessions covering the necessary preparations for writing scientific works, essential elements of scientific writing, and the use of Mendeley. These socialization sessions were conducted three times, followed by a mentoring process where our team assisted participants until they produced scientific papers ready for publication. The community service program concluded with participants completing a questionnaire to evaluate their responses to the program. As a result of these activities, ten written works were produced, ready for publication in journals or print media. Questionnaire results indicate that 95% of participants felt motivated to write scientific papers, and 100% responded positively to the community service activities.

Abstract

Smoking among teenagers has become a global issue that concerns both society and governments. Global data shows that, on average, more than 25 percent of children in each country smoke. In developing countries, this number far exceeds that of developed countries. The latest trend among children under 18 years old is shifting from conventional to electronic cigarettes. The dangers of both are no longer being considered as the trend of electronic cigarettes is on the rise. Statistics from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) indicate that the majority of children who smoke come from smoking families. Children exposed to adult smokers will experience health problems in addition to participating in smoking. The Indonesian School Kuala Lumpur (SIKL) is concerned about children picking up the habit of smoking; therefore, they hope to raise awareness among children to protect them from the dangers of smoking, both conventional and electronic. The aim of this Community Service is to increase awareness among students at SIKL to understand the dangers of smoking. The method used includes lectures and interactive discussions to stimulate children to think positively. The results of the community service show that children were enthusiastic and willing to remind each other if they encounter peers or friends smoking, including reminding their extended family members who smoke. Children were also enthusiastic about avoiding smokers to prevent themselves from becoming passive smokers. Therefore, it can be concluded that raising awareness about the dangers of smoking and the involvement of civil society in preventing smoking among children are crucial in controlling the spread of smoking-related diseases

Abstract

In the 2022/2023 academic year, SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Jombang implemented the Merdeka Curriculum, initially applied to Class X students, and extended to Classes X and XI in the 2022/2024 academic year. This community service program, conducted by the Faculty of Law, Soerjo University, aims to assist teachers in designing, implementing, and reflecting on Learning Communities that align with the Learning Community Optimization Guidelines. The approach utilized includes socialization activities, training, technology application, mentoring, and ensuring program sustainability. As a result of this initiative, teachers have gained the ability to design, implement, and reflect on Learning Communities according to the prescribed guidelines. Furthermore, the program has helped establish teacher habits focused on student-centered learning, fostering cooperation among educators, and promoting shared responsibility, all while referring to student learning outcome data. These outcomes have led to positive changes in the learning environment facilitated by the partners

Abstract

In 2023, there will be 141.60 tons of waste produced every day, both by households, offices, markets, commerce, public facilities and areas in Gorontalo City, and around 35% is plastic waste. The production of plastic waste in Gorontalo City is in first place. If this is allowed to continue, it will cause environmental pollution. This is because plastic waste is a type of solid waste that is difficult to decompose in a short time, which takes around 50-100 years to decompose into soil. Based on these problems, efforts need to be made to empower the community through making Ecobricks as a solution for healthy living with knowledge, faith, immunity and safety. This aims to preserve the environment, increase health independence, prevent disease and/or disasters, and increase people's income through Ecobrick products. The stages in this activity include coordination with partners, namely the Az-Zahra Mosque Ta'mirul Agency group, Pre Test, socialization regarding plastic waste, its impact on the environment and health, both in terms of science and religion, introducing the Ecobrick method as a environmentally friendly alternative plastic waste management, training in making Ecobricks, Post Test, monitoring and finishing of Ecobrick products. The results obtained from this activity include an increase in partner knowledge of around 20%, 72 Ecobrick bottles have been produced with a total of 14,309 grams of plastic waste, partner satisfaction is at 3.6 on a scale of 4, and 1 table, 4 chairs have been produced (can also be used as a table), and 1 shelf.

Abstract

Corn is a primary commodity in Kersikan Village, cultivated by farmer groups. However, corn processing into food products has not yet been optimized, and current practices often result in waste due to limited knowledge among members of the Women Farmers Group (Kelompok Wanita Tani or KWT). Sustainable assistance is therefore needed to enhance their skills and knowledge. Through ongoing assistance, corn can be diversified into less-waste-based food products, where all parts of the corn are utilized to minimize processing waste. Corn kernels, for instance, are processed into dodol (a local confectionery) and tortilla chips, capitalizing on the nutritional content of corn, which includes carbohydrates, protein, fat, and various vitamins and minerals. Corn silk waste is used to make corn silk tea, which contains phenolic compounds with antioxidant properties. Additionally, corn husks are repurposed as natural packaging for the dodol. This sustainable processing activity engages KWT Permata from Kersikan Village, Gondang Wetan District, Pasuruan Regency, in stages that include socialization, training, technology application, and continued assistance and evaluation. This ongoing assistance model improves partners' knowledge, skills, and understanding in diversifying corn processing with a less-waste approach.

Abstract

This service focuses on empowering housewives in Tegalsari Village, Plered District, Cirebon Regency, through the 2024 Community Service Lecture program of Universitas Islam Bunga Bangsa Cirebon (UIBBC). This program optimizes the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach to increase the economic independence of housewives through catfish cultivation and plants in buckets (budikdamber). The purpose of this service is to identify the potential and assets of housewives in improving their quality of life and creating sustainable business opportunities. The methodology used includes observation, interviews, and direct implementation of the budikdamber program in the field. The results of this service showed that most of the participants managed to maintain the survival of their fish, although there were some technical constraints such as the quality of the cultivation container and the frequency of feeding that affected the harvest. The program succeeded in improving the knowledge and skills of housewives in fish and plant farming, although there is a need for continuous improvement and monitoring to achieve more optimal results.
