Abstract

Background: Free radicals in cigarettes can increase oxidative stress, exacerbating inflammation and activating alveolar macrophage cells. The phenolic components of kawista fruit act as antioxidants that reduce free radicals. Objective: To determine the effect of kawista fruit on alveolar macrophage activation in Wistar rats exposed to cigarette smoke (CS).Methods: The experimental research used a post-test only group design with a completely randomized design for 35 days. Wistar 25 male rats were divided into five groups: positive control (exposed to cigarette smoke), negative control (no treatment), O1, O2, and O3 (exposed to cigarette smoke and Kawista fruit sonde at doses O1=0,5, O2=0,6, and O3=0,7 g/kg BW). Data were analyzed using ANOVA one analysis of variance and LSD test. Results: Kawista fruit given preventively at doses of 0,6 and 0,7 g/kg BW could prevent the activation of lung alveolar macrophages in rats exposed to cigarette smoke (p=0,000). The lowest number of alveolar macrophages was seen at a dose of 0,7 g/kg BW.Conclusion:  Kawista fruit inhibited the increase in the number of alveolar macrophages and improved the lung histopathology of Wistar rats exposed to cigarette smoke.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) cases are increasing every year, IDF 2021 data shows DM cases aged 20-79 years with a total of 537 million people (10,5%), predicted to continue to increase in 2030 to 643 million people (11,3%) . DM sufferers can basically live a normal life if they follow four pillars, one of which is complying with education. It is important for patients to receive education in choosing foods that contain a low glycemic index because they are more slowly absorbed by the body into glucose, so that glucose levels in the body become more controlled. DM sufferers are advised to consume foods with a low glycemic index because these foods are more slowly absorbed by the body into glucose so that glucose levels in the body are more controlled. The more often DM patients receive education, the better their behavior, especially in choosing foods with a low glycemic index. Objectives: Knowing the effect of providing food glycemic index education on blood glucose levels in type 2 DM patients at Palembang Social Health Center. Methods: The research was carried out at the Palembang Social Health Center for 5 months, namely August to November 2021. Data was collected through measurements, namely body weight and height, interviews in the form of 3x24 hour recall and measurement of blood glucose levels. The type of research used is quantitative research using a Quasi Experimental research design. The research used a pretest and posttest with control group design with 46 respondents. The statistical analysis method used is the Paired T-test. The results of the dependent t-test between the treatment and comparison groups had a p value <0,05 which was equally significant, so it was continued with the independent t-test.Results: The results showed that there was a significant difference in blood glucose levels before and after providing counseling using posters (p=0,002) and booklets (p=0,004).Conclusion: Booklet media had more influence on increasing respondents' knowledge compared to using other media such as posters.

Abstract

Background: In general anesthesia, to facilitate the intubation process, laryngoscopy is used, with various shapes and sizes and additional functions such as use of video cameras, but it also comes with risks, one of which is a cardiovascular response. Objectives: To compare differences of hemodynamic responses (SBP= Systolic blood pressure, DBP= Siastolic blood pressure, HR= Heat rate, MAP= Mean atrial preassure, and RPP= Rate pressure product) in patients who undergoing endotracheal intubation with conventional laryngoscopes compared to video laryngoscopes at H. Adam Malik General Hospital. Methods: This is an analytical study with a pretest-posttest controlled group clinical trial design to compare differences of hemodynamic response in patients undergoing endotracheal intubation with conventional laryngoscope compared to video laryngoscope. All patients who underwent elective surgery under general anesthesia and endotracheal intubation and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were included in the study. Results: This study showed a significant difference between the conventional laryngoscopy and video laryngoscopy groups on the results of systolic blood pressure measurements. While diastolic blood pressure at T0, T1, and T2 after laryngoscopy did not show significant differences. This significant difference was found at T1, where the HR of subjects in conventional laryngoscopy was significantly higher compared to video laryngoscopy. Conclusion: The use of a conventional laryngoscope for laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation further enhances hemodynamic response compared to video laryngoscope, both when the glottis is visualized and when the cuff is inflated.

Abstract

Background: Diagnosis of typhoid fever can be done by tubex examination. Hematological changes occur in typhoid fever due to bone marrow suppression. The patient's hemoglobin decreased slowly to the point of anemia. Erythrocyte indices, namely mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), are used to classify anemia. Objectives: To determine the correlation between the degree of tubex positivity and the erythrocyte index in patients suffering from typhoid fever at the Aceh Regional General Hospital in 2023.Methods: Observational analytic with cross-sectional design. The sampling method was purposive sampling, inclusion criteria: respondents who underwent tubex examination and erythrocyte index. The research data is secondary data from regional general hospital medical record. Results: Based on Spearman's correlation, MCV has a very weak relationship with a positive patterned correlation, and MCHC has a very weak relationship with a negative patterned correlation where MCHC values decrease with an increase in the degree of tubex positivity. Conclusion: Typhoid fever sufferers may experience changes in the size of their erythrocytes to become larger, even though typhoid fever sufferers do not experience anemia.
