Abstract

A teacher is a person who imparts knowledge to students. Teachers are subjects that play an essential role in the continuity of education. Teachers will be able to educate and teach if they have emotional stability and have a great sense of responsibility to advance their students. Teachers in schools must be able to deal with the emotional demands of the surrounding environment on an ongoing basis. Thus, the teacher's knowledge and skills are needed to manage the emotion they experience while carrying out their roles as educators. This community service activity was conducted at the Insan Karima Cendekia Foundation in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra. This location was chosen because it considered the problems faced by teachers, especially in managing emotions. The foundation also conveyed the obstacles and needs related to psychoeducation for teachers. The activities were packaged in the form of providing psychoeducation and direct practice related to emotional regulation and becoming professional educators. Through the activities carried out, it was hoped that it could be a means to help teachers recognize emotion and understand how to regulate their emotions and help teachers gain knowledge related to being a professional educator.

Abstract

Sawahlunto city is one of the cities/districts in West Sumatra actively assisting the poor. The assistance was given was livestock for farmers, such as goats, ducks, and native chickens. In 2020 the population of ducks in Sawahlunto was recorded at 18,654 ducks with 257 farmers. In 2022, there is a giving of 100 ducks to a breeder by the related government. The ducks are farmed in four sub-districts, i.e. Talawi, Barangin, Lembah Segar, and Silungkang Districts. The society target of the activity was duck breeders under the Food Security, Agriculture, and Fisheries Service of Sawahlunto City. The main problem of them is high feed prices and difficulty developing breeders. The knowledge transfer from academics to farmers was carried out by counselling and discussions about good production, nutrition, and livestock health. This activity was carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic, which was still restricted by social distancing protocol. The discussion was attended by around 137 participants consisting of 70 poultry farmers, 30 agricultural assisting workers, and 37 local heads in Sawahlunto City.

Abstract

The cow farmer in Padang was changed from semi-intensive to intensive because of city development. The intensive system requires farmers to be forage feeding cut and carried from field margins. The limited knowledge of smallholder farmers about the high quality of forage causes native grass to become the primary source of forage; meanwhile, the low nutrient content of native grass causes the low production and reproduction in cows. To overcome the adequacy of feed forage, both in quality and quantity, thus cultivation of forage was conducted on unproductive land such as peatlands. Generally, peatland with a shallow category and low pH is widespread on the coast of Padang city. Sorghum is tolerant to acid soil and can be the solution to overcome forage feeding in the dry season. The community service activities were carried out from October 2021 until January 2022 and aimed to increase farmers' knowledge in feed diversification and skills in cultivating sorghum as a superior feed crop. The activities were conducted using counselling and discussion methods and the practice of sorghum cultivation on peatlands. Results showed that cow farmers know the importance of providing quality sustainable forage to increase livestock productivity, especially brood cows. The conclusion is that sorghum can be a substitute for native grass and as a concentrate; hence it can be an alternative solution to the problem of supplying feeding in Padang city.

Abstract

Women Farmers Group of Melati Mini is a livestock group engaged in poultry farming, especially for quail commodities. The livestock business managed by the group faces the problem of high feed prices so that the profits obtained by farmers are low. Local feed ingredients, such as cassava tuber skin and leaves, can be used for alternative feed. Regarding availability, those two ingredients are abundant, but their utilization in rations is relatively low due to poor quality. The fermentation process can improve the nutrient quality of those local feed ingredients using the fungus Rhizopus oligosporus. The community service activity was conducted using the counselling method, including introducing the ingredients used for fermentation, how to ferment, and preparing rations for quail farming. Twenty participants of Melati Mini's members attended the activity to gain knowledge previously did not know that those two materials could be used for poultry feed.

Abstract

The affirmation of village boundaries is the process of determining the coordinates of the boundaries, which can be carried out using cartometric methods and surveys in the field. It is outlined as a boundary map for village boundaries coordinate points as agreed. The determination of affirmation generally consists of three stages: collecting and researching boundary documents, determining a base map, and making a cartometric map of village boundaries. This activity aimed to determine boundary segments, objects, cartometric points, and artificial pillars for determining and confirming the boundaries of Pasir Binjai Village, Silaut District, and Pesisir Selatan Regency. The results of this activity were 1) Pasir Binjai Village has five boundary segments, all segments bordering the border villages within one administrative area of the Silaut District government; 2) Natural boundaries, namely mark village boundary objects: river flow or middle of the river, middle of drainage or ditch, a centre of the road, and some are found on community plantation land; 3) the total number of cartometric points as a reference and the village boundary nodes are 15 points; 4) the number of pillars made for the artificial marking of the village boundaries are six pillars, there are four boundary pillars which are the primary boundary reference pillars which are not located right on the boundary line, and two boundary pillars are the main boundary pillars which are located right on the boundary line.

Abstract

Doughnuts are one of the most popular sweet foods for people of all ages around the world. Although made from simple ingredients such as flour, sugar, eggs, yeast, milk powder, salt, water, and margarine, however producing doughnuts requires special techniques to produce good-quality doughnuts. It needs more energy, even physically and electrical equipment. A workshop on doughnut production with autolyze method for Dharma Women Association, Faculty of Engineering, University of Riau, was conducted to increase the knowledge and skills of members of the organization in making healthy dishes for the family. In this workshop, doughnuts were made using the autolysis method, which is mixing bread flour with water and then keeping the dough until gluten was formed. The formation of gluten is one indicator of the formation of smooth, soft, and elastic dough. The workshop results showed high interest among the Dharma Women Association members in making doughnuts with this alternative method.

Abstract

Probiotics are microorganisms that are beneficial to the host and can improve the intestine's microflora. For ruminants in Indonesia, high numbers of cellulolytic microorganisms are needed to utilize forage or agricultural waste as efficiently as possible in producing the nutrients needed by livestock. Therefore, a feed additive is needed to improve the rumen function's performance, and one of them is probiotics. Solid and liquid probiotics have several advantages, namely containing live microbial cultures that are desirable and beneficial for livestock through increasing the balance of digestive microbes and playing a role in providing enzymes that can digest crude fibre and lactic acid bacteria. Probiotics also can produce anti-microbial ingredients (bacteriocins) to inhibit the growth of unfavourable microbes. The use of microorganism supplements (probiotics) has been socialized in the Nagari Ampang Pulai, Koto XI Tarusan District, and Pesisir Selatan Regency. The efficiency of using agricultural waste probiotics in cattle rations as much as 10 ml/head/day is expected to increase body weight gain by 0.70 kg/head/day, according to an experiment at the Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Andalas University. In general, liquid probiotics are more effective as feed additives when compared to solid probiotics in rice straw and concentrate-based rations.
