Abstract

Mathematics is a field of study needed in various aspects of life. Accordingly, mathematics should always be considered a compulsory subject at every level of education, including in Islamic Boarding Schools. The fact shows that implementing mathematics learning in several schools needs to run optimally, especially in schools lacking teachers and limited educational facilities and infrastructure, such as The Al Ashry Islamic Boarding School, at the secondary level in Padang. This condition indicates that it is necessary to assist other parties to help students in their mathematics learning process. For this reason, the community service team of The Mathematics and Science Data Department of Andalas University conducted an intensive mathematics tutoring activity for The Al-Asyri Boarding School students. The activity carried out during September-December 2022 combined the lecture and the small group discussion approach. From the evaluation delivered by the students at the end of the activity, it can be concluded that this activity increased students’ interest, motivation, efficacy, and understanding of mathematics subject.

Abstract

The community engagement team of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Lampung, conducted community services in the Jaya Lestari Pekon Selapan farmer group, Pardasuka District, Pringsewu Regency. The partner's problem is that elephant ginger (Zingiber officinale var. officinarum) still needs to be optimal in its use, limited to being harvested and then sold directly to collectors, and the selling price on the market is low. Farming groups have never used elephant ginger as a product. The activity aims to educate the public that elephant ginger can be utilized and developed to be processed into a product dosage form, which can add economic value by being made into an antioxidant health supplement product in the form of a pulvis preparation (powder). As well as increasing the capacity and welfare of the community through empowering the potential of the village resources. The method for implementing did through focus group discussions (FGD) included conveying theory through lectures, interactive discussion, and accompanying practical demonstrations in making elephant ginger powder products. The results of this activity show the high enthusiasm of farmer groups and women farmer groups (KWT) in producing elephant ginger powder products.

Abstract

Food is one of the basic human needs, and food is usually given food additives. However, public knowledge about food additives still needs to be improved in terms of type, appropriate dosage for use and impact on human health. Apart from being good, food must also be halal, but public understanding of halal food ingredients and the contamination of non-halal ingredients into food is still lacking. This community service activity aims to increase public knowledge, especially in Talaka village, about food additives that are halal, healthy and nutritious and to be able to recognize products that contain food additives that are dangerous to health. This activity was carried out through introductions, giving pre-test questionnaires, providing education on halal, healthy and nutritious food, and giving a post-test afterwards. Nineteen participants answered questions correctly before education was 50%, while after education it was improved to 75%. Based on the results of observations and discussions with counselling participants, information was obtained that the public already understands the importance of choosing food products that are hygienic, halal, healthy and nutritious and that the public knows about additional ingredients—permitted and prohibited foods for food products.

Abstract

Technology and the internet can help students learn effectively. Improper use of online resources accessed for educational purposes can also hinder effective learning, as students need more participation and control. This training encourages students to participate in teaching and learning, even using internet-supported education facilities. The first part of the training was psychoeducation regarding the effectiveness of internet use among teenagers, and the second part was related to a short course regarding student engagement in learning activities. Psychoeducation uses the lecture method, and question-and-answer discussions with participants, and a short-course used the lecture method discussions in small groups of four to five students. The activity's outcomes included increases in participants' pre- and post-test knowledge of internet effectiveness (up from 51% of participants) and student involvement (up from 96.2% of participants). According to the paired sample t-test results, there was a noteworthy distinction between the short-course activities yielded pre-test and post-test scores with a p<.001. On the other hand, the outcomes of the psychoeducational activities pre- and post-test did not differ significantly, a p-value of 0.828. After completing this activity, students are expected to be focused on their academic work and possess the skills necessary to use the internet efficiently.

Abstract

Applying science and technology encourages innovation, increasing development productivity, independence and national competitiveness. Indonesia has a science and technology area named Science Techno Park (STP). Maturity measurement is an indicator of the level of an STP to apply science and technology for the welfare of society. There are three levels of maturity for STP, which are low (pratama), middle (madya), and high (utama). Before entering the best maturity level, STP must go through various kinds of preparation and fulfil the elements contained in it. The community service activity team at Universitas Andalas conducted a web seminar (webinar) to socialise the maturity assessment for STP Unand from the academic side. The webinar invited two experts on STP maturity measurement. One of the primary assessments is the number of products produced that are expected to come from the results of academic research. This activity can help STP Unand prepare to increase its maturity to a high level.

Abstract

Sumatera Volunteer Foundation was founded in 2014. The foundation is located in Jorong Balai Labuah Bawah-Lima Kaum, which is located on flat land. The main activity of the non-profit Sumatra Volunteer Foundation is a handicraft business whose main raw materials are obtained from nature Sumatra Volunteer sells goods whose raw material is bamboo, such as straws (Sumatra Straws), food made from coconut shells, gifts made from bamboo, and crafts to finance the Foundation's operational activities. In BPOM permit regulations, only straw products are permitted because they are used directly by users as drinking utensils. The sales system still uses the help of friends, family, alumni, students, and interns from the Sumatra Volunteer Foundation. The marketing activities of the Sumatra Volunteer Foundation do not yet have a BPOM permit, so consumers and potential consumers feel safer when using goods with a BPOM certificate. This activity aims to develop the craft product business at the Sumatra Volunteer Foundation by obtaining a BPOM permit. Educational activities regarding BPOM were successfully carried out with the consideration that the product could be clinically tested.

Abstract

Stunting and anaemia in pregnant women are global conditions that are interrelated with the risk of declining health status in children and pregnant women. Anaemia in pregnant women poses a risk of stunting in children, impacting growth and development, brain function, immune system, and learning abilities. For this reason, the purpose of community service is to detect the early risk of stunting in children and anaemia in pregnant women. The method used is an anthropometric examination of toddlers and pregnant women using weight, height, upper arm circumference, and haemoglobin examination to detect the risk of stunting and anaemia. Inspection and measurement data were processed using KMS online and SPSS and presented descriptively in frequency distribution tables and central tendency values. This activity was carried out at the Durian Tiga Batang Posyandu, Kuranji Health Center, Padang City, on 10 August 2023. Data was collected on 50 infants/toddlers and nine pregnant women who visited the Posyandu. The examination revealed that 48% of infants and toddlers were at risk of stunting (short and very short stature), and 11.1% of pregnant women had anaemia. Thus, early detection of stunting through the online KMS application facilitates data interpretation so that it can provide information quickly and recommend further treatment to mothers to achieve ideal child height growth. In addition, early detection of anaemia can prevent stunting in children.

Abstract

This article aims to determine how product selling prices were determined at MSMEs Karak Kaliang Talua RF. Data collection used the observation method by conducting interviews with the owner, asking several questions related to his business, and documenting the results of the observation visit. Based on the visit results, this business had a reasonably small target market by marketing only entrusting products to traders in traditional markets. The owner expects a profit of IDR 5,000/0.25kg for each product, namely Karak Kaliang Talua and Roti Kariang. The owner of Karak Kaliang Talua RF sets prices based only on estimated cost prices and profit expectations. After processing the data from the interview results, it was found that there was a discrepancy between the selling price set by the owner and the profit expectations.
