Abstract

Children are a vulnerable group at risk of experiencing rights violations, especially in urban areas with densely populated settlements and limited social support. This study aims to analyze the role of Komunitas Harapan in assisting vulnerable children in Kampung Sumeneban, Semarang City, as well as to examine the challenges and vulnerabilities of community-based assistance sustainability through the perspective of Robert D. Putnam's social capital. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, with validity tested through triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. Data analysis used an interactive analysis model carried out continuously until saturation was reached. The results of the study show that Komunitas Harapan plays a role in providing educational assistance, character building, and social support. These mentoring practices build social capital in the form of social networks, social norms, and trust among volunteers, children, parents, and external partners. The study also identified challenges such as a limited number of volunteers and funding, the absence of standardized learning modules, and limited facilities. Moreover, social capital vulnerability is marked by disruptions in networks due to volunteer turnover and organizational structure uncertainty, decreased trust due to limited resources, and weakened institutional norms due to the dominance of volunteerism values. The novelty of this study lies in employing a sociological approach based on social capital analysis, highlighting the elements of social networks, social norms, and trust in the context of mentoring vulnerable children in urban areas.

Abstract

Floating houses are one of the river cultural heritages of the Banjar community that represent the identity of riverside settlements in Banjarmasin. However, urban modernization, shifts in community orientation, and weak preservation regulations have contributed to the continuous decline in the existence of floating houses. This condition indicates a threat to the sustainability of river culture, which has long been a distinctive characteristic of Banjarmasin City. This study aims to analyze the social actions of residents in maintaining floating houses and to examine the role of the Banjarmasin City government in preservation efforts in Seberang Mesjid Village. This study employed a qualitative approach using purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving floating house residents and local government officials associated with riverside area management. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing using Max Weber’s social action perspective as the analytical framework. The findings reveal that the residents’ social actions in preserving floating houses are carried out through routine maintenance practices, foundation repairs, the use of alternative materials, and the preservation of local values and traditions passed down across generations. Meanwhile, the government acts as a facilitator and innovator through riverside beautification programs, CSR-based assistance for floating house renovations, and the formulation of sustainable floating house development strategies. This study concludes that the sustainability of floating houses depends not only on the adaptive capacity of riverine communities but also on more integrated government policies aimed at preserving river culture in Banjarmasin City.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Sekolah Indonesia Davao (SID) in building Indonesian cultural insight among students in a multicultural environment. The study used a qualitative descriptive approach through interviews with teachers and school stakeholders. The findings show that Indonesian cultural values are integrated through classroom learning, school habituation, extracurricular activities, and collaboration with the Indonesian Consulate General in Davao. Teachers play an important role in embedding nationalism, mutual cooperation, politeness, tolerance, and the use of the Indonesian language in daily learning activities. Cultural reinforcement is carried out through contextual learning, arts performances, national commemorations, and cultural diplomacy programs. However, challenges remain, including strong local cultural influences, limited learning resources, and students’ low use of Indonesian language outside school. The support of teachers, school leaders, parents, communities, and the Indonesian Consulate significantly strengthens the implementation of cultural education at SID. This study concludes that SID has a strategic role as an educational institution and cultural diplomacy center in strengthening Indonesian cultural identity among students abroad.

Abstract

This study aims to examine transformational leadership and organizational climate as determinants of teachers’ job performance, with achievement motivation positioned as a mediating variable. A quantitative explanatory design employing path analysis was used to test the proposed structural model. The sample consisted of 165 civil servant teachers from 26 public elementary schools in Central Banjarmasin District, selected through proportionate random sampling. Data were collected using a five-point Likert-scale questionnaire that met established validity and reliability criteria. The findings indicate that transformational leadership and organizational climate have positive and significant direct effects on teachers’ job performance. Transformational leadership also significantly influences achievement motivation, whereas organizational climate does not show a significant effect on achievement motivation. Mediation analysis reveals that achievement motivation partially mediates the relationship between transformational leadership and teachers’ job performance but does not mediate the relationship between organizational climate and job performance. The structural model explains 73.1% of the variance in teachers’ job performance. These findings highlight the importance of integrating transformational leadership practices with strategies that strengthen teachers’ achievement motivation as a key psychological mechanism for improving professional performance.
