Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in managing academic stress and its influence on well-being and conceptual understanding of the coordination system material. This study employs a mixed-methods embedded approach, involving pretests, posttests, and qualitative interviews. The population of this research is senior high school students in one public school in Ciamis Regency. The sample was selected using purposive sampling, in which two classes of grade XI students were chosen based on the consideration that their Biology lesson schedules were relatively similar and their average academic stress scores were nearly equal. These classes were then assigned as the experimental group and the control group. The experimental group underwent SEL intervention, while the control group followed the conventional learning process. Data collection techniques included academic stress questionnaires, conceptual understanding tests, and well-being interviews. The quantitative data were analyzed using paired t-tests and independent t-tests, while qualitative data were analyzed through thematic coding. The results revealed a significant decrease in academic stress (p < 0.05) and improvement in conceptual understanding in the experimental group. The qualitative findings highlighted enhanced well-being in terms of emotional regulation, self-awareness, and interpersonal skills. This study concludes that SEL can be an effective approach to reducing academic stress and fostering holistic development in high school students, and it is recommended for broader implementation in educational practices.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the visual representation aspects and level of representation in genetics textbooks related to DNA material. This study is descriptive qualitative with two genetics textbooks as the research objects. The analysis technique used is visual representation function analysis and level of representation. The results of the analysis show that visual representation is dominated by illustrative functions (70-75%), followed by complementary functions (23-25%), while explanatory functions only appear 5%, and decorative functions are not found. The level of DNA topic representation falls under the molecular level of representation. This finding indicates that the visual representations in both genetics textbooks are predominantly illustrative, followed by complementary functions, while explanatory functions appear only to a limited extent, and decorative functions are absent. This analysis provides valuable insight into the quality of the textbooks and their relevance to potential student misconceptions. The implication of this study is that it can serve as a reference for authors of genetics textbooks, particularly in the topic of DNA, to pay closer attention to the balance of visual representation functions, ensuring that no single function dominates and that the visuals more effectively support students’ conceptual understanding.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the diversity of seagrass species found on the coast of Malanggo Pesisir Village, South Tinombo District, Parigi Moutong Regency. This study used a quantitative descriptive method with a linear quadratic transect technique conducted at three observation stations. Each station was observed to determine the type and number of seagrass individuals found. The data obtained were then analyzed using the Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H’) to determine the level of seagrass species diversity at the study site. The results showed that there were five seagrass species found, namely Enhalus acoroides, Thalassia hemprichii, Halodule pinifolia, Halodule uninervis, and Cymodocea rotundata. The total number of seagrass individuals obtained was 8,548 with a diversity index value (H’) of 1.518 which is classified as moderate. This value indicates that the seagrass ecosystem in the waters of Malanggo Pesisir Village is in a relatively stable condition and is able to support the existence of several seagrass species. However, human activities around the coastal area have the potential to put pressure on the balance of the seagrass ecosystem. Therefore, efforts are needed to manage and preserve seagrass ecosystems sustainably so that their ecological function is maintained.
