Abstract

This study aims to explore the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach as an instructional strategy that fosters students’ problem-solving abilities in real-world contexts, particularly in the teaching of Civics Education (PPKn) at the elementary school level. A qualitative descriptive method was employed through a literature review of 42 national and international scholarly articles, which were then narrowed down to the 10 most relevant sources based on contextual relevance, publication quality, and thematic focus. The findings indicate that PBL consistently encourages students to think critically, address contextual problems, and engage actively in group discussion and collaboration. Moreover, this approach enhances students’ understanding of civic values, cultivates reflective thinking, and promotes social responsibility. The study highlights the importance of repositioning the teacher’s role—from a transmitter of knowledge to a facilitator who stimulates students’ active participation and independent thinking. These findings offer practical implications for developing a more participatory, contextual, and transformative learning strategy in Civics Education, particularly one aligned with the developmental characteristics of elementary students. Ultimately, the research contributes to the advancement of pedagogical models aimed at shaping young citizens who are solution-oriented and embody the values of Pancasila.

Abstract

Instilling democratic values from elementary school is a strategic step in shaping active and responsible citizens. The subject of Pancasila and Civics Education (PPKn) plays an important role in introducing democratic concepts. However, classroom learning is still dominated by lecture-style methods, which tend to make students passive. This study aims to analyze the application of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in PPKn education to foster democratic participation among elementary school students. The research was conducted through a literature review of relevant national and international scientific articles. The results of the study indicate that PBL not only enhances students' understanding of democratic concepts but also develops collaboration, leadership, and decision-making skills. Through contextual projects, students are encouraged to actively participate, express their opinions, and engage in group decision-making processes. However, there are still few studies that specifically examine the relationship between PjBL and the development of democratic behavior among elementary school students. Therefore, further development is needed in the design of Civic Education (PPKn) learning that provides space for students to experience and practice democratic values directly. This study aims to provide guidance for teachers in developing learning activities that foster active student participation, contextual relevance, and meaningful learning experiences.

Abstract

This study examines the low level of science literacy among students, which is due to teacher-centered science education dominated by lecture methods, a lack of student motivation and engagement, and a lack of student focus during learning. This study examines the effect of the Discovery learning model, assisted by Google Sites, on science education and its impact on the science literacy of fifth-grade students. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. The study population consisted of 232 fifth-grade students from SDN Gugus 1 in Buleleng District. Through a lottery, the sample was randomly selected, with SDN 2 Anturan selected as the experimental group of 34 students and SDN 3 Kalibukbuk selected as the control group of 33 students. Data were collected through essay tests. Additionally, data was collected through documentation. The tests were then validated for validity, reliability, and difficulty level. Descriptive and inferential statistics (t-test) were used for data analysis. The results of the analysis showed that the calculated t-value was greater than the critical t-value (34.522 > 1.669), indicating a significant difference in science literacy between the two groups. Therefore, there was a significant difference in science literacy among IPAS students who were taught using the discovery learning model with Google Sites compared to those who were not.

Abstract

In Indonesian language learning, there are four language skills that students must master. These four language skills are interconnected and influence one another. Elementary school students need to learn aspects of language, one of which is reading skills. Reading skills themselves have a significant impact on all aspects of students’ activities, especially in learning activities. This research employs an experimental research method with a quantitative approach. The research design used in this experimental study is a Quasi Experimental Design in the form of a Pretest-Posttest Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample in this study consists of all fourth-grade students at SDN Ngadi and all fourth-grade students at SDN Kranding, Mojo District, Kediri Regency. Based on the results of data analysis, an asymp. Sig value of 0.002 was obtained, which means that the significance value is smaller than 0.05, thus it can be concluded that there is a difference in learning outcomes between the control class and the experimental class. In addition, the difference can be seen from the average post-test scores obtained by the control class without treatment and the experimental class after treatment. The average post-test score in the control class was 78.7, while the average post-test score in the experimental class was 86.8. From this difference in averages, it can be concluded that the application of the Glenn Doman method in homonym material in the experimental class had an effect on students’ learning outcomes.

Abstract

The issue of students’ learning outcomes in mathematics, particularly in the topic of standard unit volume measurement, which have not yet met the minimum completeness criteria, has become a problem in Grade 4 at SDN 7 Sugihwaras. Based on data triangulation, the main contributing factor is the abstract nature of the material, which leads to low student interest. In addition, teacher-centered learning further reduces students’ engagement in the learning process. This study aims to develop interactive multimedia to improve students’ learning outcomes. The research is a Research and Development (R&D) study using the Plomp development model. The Plomp model consists of five phases: preliminary investigation, design, realization/construction, test, evaluation and revision, and implementation. he results of the expert validation show that the interactive multimedia developed using Articulate Storyline 3 received a score of 92.3% from the subject matter expert and 96% from the media expert, both falling into the "Highly Valid" category. In terms of practicality, student response questionnaires yielded a score of 100%. Limited trials resulted in a score of 86.25, while wider trials yielded 87.83. Thus, this interactive multimedia meets the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness, and can be used to improve students' learning outcomes.

Abstract

This research was conducted with a background of problems obtained by conducting a needs analysis. The data collection technique used was data triangulation (observation, interviews, documentation). Data were collected in grade 3 of SD Negeri 3 Watudandang and SD Negeri 2 Watudandang in the Indonesian Language subject, the material of explaining the message in fictional narrative texts. From the observation results, it was found that grade 3 students still had difficulty in understanding the material. The difficulty in understanding the material of explaining the message in fictional narrative texts was because the learning did not use learning media. In addition, teacher-focused learning caused students to interact less with the material and get bored in learning. The above data is supported by the results of interviews with grade 3 teachers of SD Negeri 3 Watudandang and SD Negeri 2 Watudandang. Students tend to be more active in learning when using concrete-based learning media. Meanwhile, from the documentation data conducted by looking at the results of the learning evaluation, it was found that the average score of 3rd grade students of SD Negeri 3 Watudandang and SD Negeri 2 Watudandang on the material describing the message in fictional narrative text was 62. The score that was still below the KKTP indicated that the learning completion had not been achieved. The purpose of this study was to determine the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of BOTASI based on local wisdom on the material describing the message in fictional narrative text for 3rd grade students of SD Negeri 3 Watudandang and SD Negeri 2 Watudandang. The method used in this study was R&D with the ADDIE development model. The results of the media validity were 94.15%. The results of the practicality obtained were 100%. Meanwhile, the effectiveness of the media from the results of the learning evaluation got an average score of 86.25 in limited classes and 87.83 in large classes. From this, it can be concluded that the local wisdom-based BOTASI media for grade 3 students of SD Negeri 3 Watudandang and SD Negeri 2 Watudandang is declared very valid, very practical, and effective.

Abstract

The implementation of PM at every level of education needs to be supported by a conducive learning ecosystem, broad and meaningful learning partnerships, and effective use of digital technology to realize conscious and attentive learning, meaningful and relevant, as well as learning with joy, enthusiasm and passion. From the results of the initial study, it was found that the learning process carried out by teachers still uses traditional learning approaches and methods and the unpreparedness of students to learn. Learning is still dominated by one-way lectures, assessments that rely only on memorization, and other learning processes that do not foster students' creativity and critical thinking skills. This triggers a lack of critical thinking in students in the material presented. Through the implementation of the PM approach, implications for the urgency of harmonization between laws and regulations related to national education standards, curriculum, textbooks, learning processes, and assessments are expected through the application of PM in the Socio-Cultural Context to Develop Critical Thinking Skills of Elementary School Students. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the implementation of the in-depth learning approach in the context of learning integrated with local socio-culture to develop critical thinking skills of Elementary School students. The background of this research is based on the urgency of developing critical thinking skills at the elementary education level and the need to make learning more relevant and meaningful through an approach that focuses on understanding deep concepts and the context of students' lives. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, which aims to understand phenomena in depth through the collection of descriptive data in the form of written or spoken words from people and observed behavior. The qualitative approach was chosen because it is appropriate to explore the meaning, process, and subjective perspectives of participants on the topic studied. The research was conducted in elementary schools in Surabaya and Sidoarjo. The locations were chosen purposively because they were relevant to the research focus and allowed for in-depth data collection. The subjects in this study were fourth-grade elementary school students. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of an in-depth learning approach that utilizes the socio-cultural context significantly improves students' critical thinking skills, as seen from their ability to analyze information, evaluate arguments, and solve problems related to the surrounding environment. The integration of socio-cultural values in the learning process has also been shown to increase student motivation and engagement. The implications of this research emphasize the importance of adopting a contextual, in-depth learning approach as an innovative strategy to shape a generation that is not only cognitively intelligent but also sensitive to cultural values and capable of critical thinking in facing the challenges of the times.

Male students tend to be more lively and discuss when working on the test questions given by the researcher. While female students tend to be quieter when working on the test questions given, although there are also female students who work on the test questions by discussing. The creativity of students in drawing polygons has the same results. All students experience misconceptions in drawing pentagonal plane shapes. Of all the research subjects, students draw with one choice between symmetrical and asymmetrical images. In the symmetrical plane shape drawing, male students tend to be able to correctly draw two plane shapes, namely triangles and quadrilaterals. Female students can correctly draw three plane shapes, namely triangles, quadrilaterals and octagons. While in asymmetrical plane shapes, male students can draw two plane shapes, namely triangles and decagons. Female students can draw three plane shapes, namely triangles, ninetagons and decagons. Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that teachers introduce various polygonal plane shapes from an early age. This aims to ensure that students have thoughts or imagination in recognizing and drawing polygonal plane shapes that develop from an early age.
