Abstract

This community service program was implemented at Public Elementary School Gedangan 3 in the rural district of Sumobito, Jombang, where school gardens support greening and environmental learning but plant care is constrained by manual, inconsistent watering. The project focused on introducing an automatic plant-watering system based on the Internet of Things using a soil-moisture sensor, a microcontroller, a relay, tubing, and a small water pump. The objectives were to motivate students’ interest in technology that benefits daily life, increase their knowledge of automatic watering principles and components, and provide direct practice operating a simple device. The approach combined participatory planning with teachers, structured instruction through presentation slides, a live demonstration of the device, guided student practice, and interactive discussion. Activities were conducted on 21 August 2025 with eighteen students from grades five and six, with classroom teachers acting as facilitators. Results showed improved student understanding of component functions and system operation, greater confidence and curiosity toward technology, and more consistent watering practices that support plant growth while using water efficiently. Students reported finding the learning enjoyable and accessible, and teachers indicated readiness to sustain the device for routine garden care. The program offers a practical, replicable model for integrating elementary-level technology literacy with environmental stewardship in school settings

Abstract

The development of information and communication technology has led to the increasing use of social media among elementary school students. This condition poses serious challenges, particularly regarding low levels of digital literacy and the prevalence of bullying behavior, both directly and through social media (cyberbullying). This community service program aims to improve students’ digital literacy, especially in understanding morals and ethics in using social media. The program was carried out in three stages, namely preparation, implementation, and evaluation, targeting fourth to sixth-grade students. The partner in this activity was SDN Talun Kidul, involving the principal and teachers. The results of the program indicate positive changes among students. After the activity, students were able to distinguish between good and bad behavior, reduce the use of negative language, demonstrate mutual respect, and show the courage to reprimand peers engaged in bullying. The program concluded with an anti-bullying declaration as a collective commitment to creating a safe and conducive school environment. Thus, digital literacy socialization has proven effective in fostering students’ wisdom, empathy, and social responsibility. This program is recommended to be implemented sustainably by involving students, teachers, parents, and schools to build a positive culture in the use of social media.

Abstract

The community service program in Badas Village, Sumobito District, aimed to enhance information transparency and the effectiveness of public services through the implementation of an official village website. The method used was Participatory Action Research (PAR) with stages including observation, design, development, training, socialization, and handover. The results showed that the village website was successfully developed and utilized as a medium for information dissemination, local potential promotion, and digital-based administrative services. Village officials were able to upload and manage content independently after receiving training, while the community benefited from easier access to information without visiting the village office. In addition, a website management manual was provided as a sustainability instrument. The impacts included improved transparency, promotion of local economic potential, and enhanced human resource capacity among village officials. Thus, this program contributed to the realization of modern, accountable, and competitive village governance.

Abstract

The rapid development of information technology has encouraged local governments, including village administrations, to adopt digital media for improving public communication. Segodorejo Village faced challenges in disseminating information, such as limited media access, low transparency, and ineffective public meetings. To address these issues, a community service program was implemented by installing a running text display at the Segodorejo Village Hall. The method included planning, installation, training, and evaluation involving village officials as direct beneficiaries. The results showed that the running text facilitated real-time information delivery, enhanced transparency, improved meeting effectiveness, and increased the digital capacity of village officials. Additionally, a manual book was provided as a practical guide to ensure sustainability. This initiative successfully contributed to strengthening the digital transformation of village governance toward a smart village concept.

The program focused on mapping village data, creating a digital database of households, and producing printed maps to support administrative transparency and public information. Activities included socialization, training on system use for village officials, and publication on the official Unwaha website to reach a broader audience. As a result, the village gained an integrated digital map and a more efficient information service mechanism, which also encouraged public participation in data updating and supported the vision of a smart village.

Abstract

Villages have a very strategic role in providing services to the public. One important service is the handling of public complaints. In Mentoro Village, the complaint system is still conventional, so that reports from the community are not neatly documented, which risks hindering follow-up and slowing down the response from village officials. The community service team implemented a program with the aim of providing an effective, efficient, and transparent means of conveying the aspirations, complaints, and suggestions of the community to the village government. The community service program was designed to provide solutions through the provision of easily accessible digital-based complaint facilities, such as Google Forms and QR codes, as well as socialization of their use. The activities were carried out in three stages, namely socialization, demonstration, and assistance. Through the implementation of a complaint system based on Google Forms and QR codes, the community now has easier, faster, and more practical access to convey their aspirations, complaints, and suggestions to the village government. This system also helps village officials in documenting reports neatly, systematically, and transparently so that follow-up can be carried out more effectively

Abstract

This community service program focused on improving the digital literacy of students at SMPN 1 Trowulan through Microsoft Word training. The main problem faced was students' low skill level in using word processing applications due to limited facilities, limited computer practice, and the predominant use of smartphones over computers. The activity method consisted of initial observation, development of training modules, implementation of step-by-step practice, intensive mentoring, and evaluation of results. The training materials included an introduction to basic features, document organization, insertion of images and tables, and preparation of reports in accordance with academic standards. The results showed a significant improvement in students' digital skills, demonstrated by their ability to create simple documents, adjust text formatting, and compile neat reports. Furthermore, the training fostered learning motivation, increased self-confidence, and encouraged students' creativity in utilizing technology. The program's impact was felt not only by students but also by teachers and the school through the availability of training modules that can be used continuously. Thus, this Microsoft Word training is an important first step in realizing the digitalization of education at SMPN 1 Trowulan.

Abstract

This community service program addresses the digital transformation gap between urban and rural areas that limits market reach for micro-entrepreneurs in Palrejo Village, Sumobito District, Jombang Regency. The activities focus on improving visibility, credibility, and service responsiveness by using Google Business Profile as an information showcase and WhatsApp Business as a customer communication channel. The program aims to establish complete and verified business profiles, provide product catalogs, and cultivate consistent and ethical management of digital identity. The approach employed is Participatory Action Research, with stages that include joint planning with the village government and business owners, face-to-face training, door-to-door mentoring, and monitoring of simple metrics, such as profile views, route requests, and customer conversations. The results show that ten business profiles were created and verified, most participants activated product catalogs and automated messages, and early increases in reach indicators began to appear. Local leaders emerged to support their peers, post-transaction review requests became a habitual process, and information updates were carried out more regularly. Recommendations include regular digital clinics, a minimum standard for village digital business identity, and a monthly monitoring panel to sustain behavioral change and enhance economic impact.
