Abstract

Agroforestry in North Kalimantan offers a promising avenue for balancing community livelihoods with carbon sequestration, crucial for the REDD+ initiatives. This paper examines the potential of agroforestry in North Kalimantan to support the REDD+ program, addressing both environmental sustainability and socio-economic development. Through field observations and interviews across four regencies and one city in North Kalimantan province, various agroforestry practices were identified, including improved fallows, alley cropping, scattered trees on cropland, living fences, and silvofishery. Challenges such as cultivation practices, post-harvest processing, market access, and financing were also explored. Three potential agroforestry models were proposed to enhance carbon capture while promoting local economic resilience. The paper underscores the importance of further research and community involvement to refine and expand these agroforestry approaches, offering hope for both local prosperity and global carbon reduction efforts.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze and describe the problem of a weak human development index in North Kayong Regency using the Public Policy, Governance, and Human Development approaches. The phenomenon that occurs is important to discuss for three reasons: education is still low, health and supporting facilities are still lacking, and the standard of living of the community is still lacking. The method used in the research is the descriptive qualitative method. The results of this study indicate that the low HDI of North Kayong Regency is influenced by three indicators. First, education in North Kayong Regency is low, this is also influenced by the mindset of the community regarding the importance of education which is still lacking, and the weak government support regarding supporting facilities and infrastructure, especially in the Karimata Islands District area. Second, public health which is still lacking makes people vulnerable to diseases that can also affect a person's lifespan. The weakness of health improvement programs and the lack of health facilities and personnel are obstacles in the process of implementing health programs in North Kayong Regency. Third, community livelihoods in North Kayong Regency are also still lacking, such as high unemployment and poverty.

Abstract

Sea transportation documents, especially bills of lading, play an important role in regulating the rights and oblig ations of the parties involved. A bill of lading is not only a proof of delivery, but also serves as a contractual instrument, proof of ownership, and a basis for dispute resolution. In addition to bills of lading, there is also a letter of indemnity document which has become a growing issue in the world of sea transportation. This document is used as a guarantee by the shipper to the carrier to replace the bill of lading in certain situations, such as speeding up the delivery of goods or resolving administrative issues more efficiently. However, the use of letters of indemnity also poses various legal challenges and risks that need to be considered by all parties involved. This research aims to analyze the position of the issuance of a letter of indemnity without the submission of a bill of lading and evaluate the Indonesian legal perspective on the practice in sea transportation. The research method used is normative juridical, with reference to legal literature and related legal documents. The results show that the issuance of a letter of indemnity without the submission of a bill of lading can lead to various significant problems, especially related to legal uncertainty. This uncertainty includes aspects of the ownership rights of the goods, the responsibility of the carrier, and the potential for misuse of documents that can harm all parties involved.
