Abstract

Self-efficacy is an important factor that influences students' success in solving mathematical problems. This study aims to describe the differences in self-efficacy characteristics between students with high and low self-efficacy scores in solving mathematical problems on the topic of the Pythagorean Theorem. This research employed a qualitative approach involving two junior high school students selected based on the results of a self-efficacy questionnaire. Data were collected through questionnaires, mathematical problem-solving tests, unstructured interviews, observations, and time triangulation to obtain accurate and in-depth data. The research instruments included a self-efficacy questionnaire based on Bandura's theory with seven indicators, as well as a problem-solving test based on Polya’s stages. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions interactively until the data were saturated. The results of the study showed that students with high self-efficacy scores were able to utilize mastery experiences, had stable self-confidence and expectations of success, were able to develop structured strategies, and could recover from failure with positive social support. These students also used the success of others as motivation in solving problems. In contrast, students with low self-efficacy scores showed less stable self-confidence, were more dependent on others for assistance, and had difficulties in developing effective problem-solving strategies. Their self-efficacy also tended to decrease easily when facing failure.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the problem of the low level of mastery of mathematical concepts regarding multiplication of whole numbers up to 100 in elementary school students in phase B. Based on the findings of an initial study conducted in an elementary school, as well as the results of a review of various previous studies, it was found that one of the causes was the learning process that had not integrated the use of contextual and relevant learning materials to students' lives. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to have teaching materials based on a mathematical approach, namely the RME-based "KOPER" learning material which is made for the material on multiplication operations of whole numbers up to 100. The choice of the word "KOPER" is taken from the syllables contained in the sentence "Multiplication Concept" which is the content of the learning material which is adjusted to the principles of the RME approach. This study aims to examine whether the implementation of RME-based “KOPER” learning materials has an effect on improving the ability to understand mathematical concepts of elementary school students in Phase B, in the topic of multiplication of whole numbers up to 100. The research method used is quantitative with a quasi-experimental design in the form of a non-equivalent control group design. The subjects of this study were third-grade elementary school students, divided into two groups: a control group and an experimental group, each consisting of 20 students. Data collection was carried out using test instruments in the form of pre-tests and post-tests. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of the “KOPER” learning material oriented towards Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) has an effect on improving students' ability to understand concepts, especially the multiplication material in elementary school students in phase B.

Abstract

This study aims to systematically examine the use of learning media for the area of flat shapes in upper elementary school. The method used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) of 21 articles from national journals accredited by SINTA 3–5 published between 2023 and 2025, and 12 articles were selected that met the criteria. The results of the study indicate that the learning media used are divided into three categories: concrete media, digital media, and a combination of both. Concrete media such as tangrams, geoboards, SMARD cards, and true or false cards have proven effective in improving learning outcomes through direct experience that is in accordance with the concrete operational stage according to Piaget's theory. Digital media such as Wordwall-based E-LKPD, the Genially application, and augmented reality provide visual and interactive learning experiences that support conceptual understanding in accordance with Edgar Dale's Cone of Experience theory. Combined media such as KOMET-QR combines concrete and digital elements to provide contextual and comprehensive learning. The results of the study conclude that the selection of appropriate and varied learning media, in accordance with student characteristics and pedagogical principles, can effectively improve the quality of mathematics learning in elementary schools. Educators are expected to be able to explore and develop innovative and effective learning media that are adapted to student needs and developments in educational technology.
