Abstract

One of the sectors that contribute to the Indonesian economy is agriculture, forestry, and fishery with around 13.28% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Among them, coffee is known to be one of the essential commodities. Girimoyo village, one of the known coffee producers in Malang Regency, has a special coffee product called Bajing Coffee. Pamanjur Coffee Processor, one of the coffee production businesses, wants to make Bajing Coffee more popular. However, Pamanjur Coffee Processor fails to recognize the consumer and that makes the business grow slowly. Hence, Pamanjur Coffee Processor needs to raise people’s awareness of their products by methods that suit youngsters, especially through appealing social media content. As a result, this community service aims at helping Pamanjur Coffee Processor to gain more awareness. This community service program uses several methods, assessment, training, and assistance. The result shows that Pamanjur Coffee Processor did not have the “energy” to spend on the branding process of Bajing Coffee, but all the skills provided by the community service team are used to develop the identity and promotion of their cafe business line. As a result, this community service program was successful at the skill transfer level but failed to increase the branding of Bajing Coffee.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) represent a prioritized program within the framework of the Indonesian government's initiatives, bearing substantial potential to enhance a self-reliant and prosperous Indonesian economy. The village of Tonjong in the Bogor Regency, West Java, exhibits significant potential as a locus for MSME activities. This is evident from the occupational pursuits of the Tonjong village community, ranking third in frequency, engaged as MSME operators. In the era of globalization, marked by the advent of highly sophisticated technologies, a considerable number of MSME practitioners in the Tonjong village remain inadequately acquainted with proficient strategies for digital marketing. Consequently, this circumstance has culminated in diminished sales or revenues for the MSME practitioners producing a diverse array of items such as handicrafts and cassava crackers, among others. This predicament underscores the impetus behind community empowerment efforts, realized through the dissemination of insights pertaining to digital product marketing and innovative diversification of cassava cracker flavours within the Tonjong village. The overarching objective centers on amplifying market appeal and garnering broader public interest in these products. The execution of this exposition is meticulously orchestrated to maximize its allure, facilitating the populace's seamless assimilation of diverse knowledge. The didactic approach extends beyond didactic lectures to encompass practical engagements, exemplified by the direct involvement with a digital product marketing application and the multifaceted cassava cracker production process incorporating an array of flavour innovations. The ramifications of this exposition-induced community empowerment yield multifarious outcomes. Notable among these are (1) on the social front, heightened community collaboration for collective advancement; (2) on the economic axis, the community exhibits elevated determination to ameliorate the socio-economic landscape toward public welfare; (3) concerning the educational facet, the community gains fresh insights into the digitalization product of MSME products and acquires novel knowledge regarding innovative cassava cracker flavour profiles.

Abstract

The Strengthening Student Pancasila Profile Project (P5) is an implementation of the Merdeka curriculum, in which students undertake a project to enhance their competence and character in accordance with the Pancasila student profile. The community engagement team from Malang State University links the implementation of P5 to themes and project objectives that align with the needs and conditions of our partners. Based on the results of a survey conducted at our partner site, one of the issues identified is a low level of understanding of waste management, especially plastic waste, within the environment of Sidoarjo Public High School 3. Consequently, expert guidance is required to assist our partners in conducting activities related to the production of organic pots from waste materials. This has led to the emergence of an innovation for utilizing and processing waste into organic pots, which can be achieved through P5 activities. The methodology employed in this community engagement project consists of three stages: preparation, observation, and implementation. Data collected include documentation, observations, and the results of respondent questionnaires, which are analysed descriptively and qualitatively. The results of this community engagement project demonstrate that students can generate creative ideas to produce a variety of attractive organic pot products from waste materials. Furthermore, the questionnaire survey distributed to training participants regarding the Pancasila student profile achieved a 100% response rate, indicating that the students comprehend the significance of the Strengthening Student Pancasila Profile Project (P5).

Abstract

Tisane is an infusion beverage composed of a mixture of various ingredients such as leaves, seeds, herbs, legumes, tree bark, fruits, or flowers that are dried, or parts of plants that provide aroma and flavor while also being beneficial for health. Tisanes can offer health benefits such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, antihemolytic, and cytotoxic activities. Red dragon fruit peel contains a significant amount of natural anthocyanin colorants, rich in polyphenolic compounds, betalain compounds, vitamins C, E, and A, alkaloids, terpenoids, flavonoids, thiamine, niacin, pyridoxine, cobalamin, phenolics, carotenes, and phytoalbumins, making it a potential source of natural antioxidants. Therefore, red dragon fruit peel can be used to make tisanes due to its proven health benefits. Empowering members of the PKK (Family Welfare Movement) in the Kauman Subdistrict of Malang City in tisane production aims to increase the knowledge and skills of PKK members regarding the benefits and methods of tisane production using red dragon fruit peel waste. The community service activity was conducted in three phases. The first phase involved an explanation of the health benefits of tisanes. The second phase covered the method of making tisanes using red dragon fruit peel, and the third phase included practical tisane production and evaluation. Evaluation results showed an improvement in participants' understanding, with an average pretest score of 61.74 and an average post-test score of 90.87, with an average participant skill score of 28.61 (categorized as skilled). Abstract

One of the reasons that the act of intolerant occur is because of the ambiguity factor in the term “tolerance” itself. The logical consequence of this ambiguity has led to the vagueness of meaning of the tolerance boundaries. Furthermore, intolerance and even radicalism often occur in a society. There are serious problems that must be faced if we narrow it down to the life of Gen-Z. Based on the research by the Center for Islamic and Community Studies (PPIM) UIN Jakarta 2018, there are more than 50% of Gen-Z were exposed to intolerance and radicalism through social media. By focusing on the Gen-Z, specifically to the 12th grade students at SMAK Santa Maria, we began to provide provision for deepening and expanding their understanding on tolerance boundaries and the relationship between the intolerance and social media. This activity is conducted through concrete activities such as role-play, poster campaigns on social media, and games method like building “Tolerance Tower”. Such activities are important to be implemented so that students’ self-value appreciation as well as actualization in a society can be manifested. After the survey conducted, students’ understanding, and awareness is increased by approximately 30%. It certainly did not quantitatively achieve a complete successfulness. Therefore, it is important to carry out such activity that is more systematic and comprehensive way. However, the overall “Character Building Training on Gen-Z Tolerance” activity has laid to the fundamental foundation for a better change in awareness for the next future generations.

Abstract

Sweet corn (Zea mays Saccharata) is a promising legume commodity suitable for agricultural business ventures. The prospect of developing sweet corn farming is bright, aiming to improve farmers' income, enhance their welfare, and contribute to national revenue. In Sidera Village, farming practices for sweet corn are predominantly conventional, lacking adherence to principles of sustainable development, characterized by the use of inorganic fertilizers and chemical pesticides not in accordance with recommendations. A community engagement program aims to assist farmers in implementing cultivation techniques following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to boost sweet corn production. Specific targets include enhancing farmers' knowledge and skills to increase sweet corn productivity, addressing healthy food provision and income elevation. The program is conducted in Sidera Village, Sigi Biromaru Sub-District, collaborating with the Tunas Sejahtera farmer group as partners. Methods employed encompass training, practical sessions, technology package demonstrations, pilot plots, participatory mentoring, and coaching. Training covers standardized corn cultivation systems, organic granular and liquid fertilizer development, and bio-rational pesticides. Subsequently, practical sessions, demonstrations, and pilot plot cultivation according to SOP are carried out. The program's outcome includes a 40% increase in participants' knowledge and skills in optimal sweet corn cultivation techniques, with pilot plot yields reaching 7 tons/ha of good-quality corn, thus holding significant economic value for community income enhancement.

Abstract

The seafood processing business group in Sukolilo Baru, Kenjeran, Surabaya consists of 43 units. Among these, 29 units are household-scale seafood processing businesses and seafood product retail shops. Following the Covid-19 pandemic, these entrepreneurs are striving to restore their businesses' turnover to pre-pandemic levels. Hence, they require training and mentoring as a follow-up to the community service program previously conducted by the community service team. The achievements of the team's previous community service program include: improved product packaging skills, labeling and branding of products, as well as the issuance of Business Identification Numbers (NIB) and suitability certifications for household-scale businesses to the entrepreneurs. The ongoing community service activities currently include training, mentoring, and halal certification registration. These activities aim to enhance the marketability of the partners' products. The partners in this community service endeavor are residents in the area engaged in seafood processing businesses. Participants are involved in three activities: pre-community service preparation, community service implementation, and post-community service follow-up (monitoring-evaluation). Preparation activities are realized through preliminary studies involving pre-surveys to evaluate the conditions and readiness of the entrepreneurs. Implementation activities include: (1) training on the importance of halal certification, (2) mentoring and practice in filling out halal certificate registration forms using the Si Halal application, BPJPH Kemenag, and (3) evaluation of the process of these activities. This evaluation is conducted to understand the extent of understanding of halal certification for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
