Abstract

Literacy is not limited to the ability to read and write, but also includes the skills to understand information, think critically, and express ideas effectively. Developing a culture of literacy from an early age is essential as a foundation for shaping a smart generation that is ready to face the challenges of a changing world. The closest environments—family, school, and community—play a key role in this process. The purpose of this writing is to highlight the urgency of instilling a culture of literacy from an early age and to describe the strategic roles of families, educational institutions, and social environments in fostering a competent and competitive generation. Based on a literature review of various studies conducted in the past five years, it is evident that the roles of the family, school, and community are crucial in nurturing children's literacy culture. This article adopts a descriptive qualitative approach using the literature review method. The analysis results indicate that early literacy has a significant impact on children's cognitive, social, and emotional development. The success of character formation in children's literacy is strongly influenced by the active roles of families, schools, and communities. Parents serve as primary role models, teachers act as inspirational learning facilitators, and the community, through institutions such as community reading centers (Taman Bacaan Masyarakat or TBM), provides access and literacy activities that holistically support children's character development

Abstract

The material of the solar system tends to be abstract so that it is difficult for students to understand, especially if it is delivered using conventional methods. The PBL model emphasizes the active involvement of students in solving real problems, while animation media helps visualize abstract concepts. This study aims to determine the effect of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by animation media on the learning outcomes of fifth grade elementary school students on the material of the solar system. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group design. The subjects of the study consisted of two classes, namely Class V A with 25 students as an experimental class using the PBL model with animation media and Class V B with 25 students as a control class using conventional methods. Data collection was carried out through pre-test and post-test tests, observation, and documentation. The results of the t-test showed a significant difference between the learning outcomes of the two groups after treatment, with a significance value of 0.001 (p <0.05). These results indicate that the application of the PBL model assisted by animation media has a positive effect on improving student learning outcomes. This study recommends the application of innovative learning models to improve the effectiveness of science learning in elementary schools

Abstract

Mathematical critical thinking is one of the essential competencies students must possess to face the challenges of the 21st century. However, the 2022 PISA results show that Indonesian students’ mathematical abilities are still relatively low. A preliminary study at SMP Negeri 3 Kuningan also revealed low levels of students’ critical thinking skills, as indicated by difficulties in analyzing and solving mathematical problems. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Math Adventure media with a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) approach on students’ mathematical critical thinking skills. The research employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design of the non-equivalent control group type. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, involving two classes as samples: the experimental class using Math Adventure based on STEM, and the control class using conventional learning methods. Research instruments consisted of tests (pretest and posttest) and a student response questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using normality tests, homogeneity tests, t-tests, and N-gain analysis. The results showed a significant difference and improvement in students’ mathematical critical thinking in the experimental class. Student responses to the learning media were also very positive. Thus, Math Adventure media with a STEM approach is effective in improving students’ mathematical critical thinking skills.

Abstract

The acceptance of new students is one of the important processes in the world of education that determines the quality of students in an institution. At MIN 2 OKU, the selection process is still done manually, which risks causing subjectivity and inefficiency in decision-making. To address this issue, a Decision Support System (DSS) was developed using the Profile Matching method. The purpose of this research is to design and build a DSS based on the Profile Matching method in order to improve the accuracy and efficiency of new student selection at MIN 2 OKU. This method is used to assess the suitability between the candidate students' profiles and the predetermined criteria, such as academic scores, potential academic tests, interviews, and memorization. This system helps the school provide objective and systematic assessments. The test results show that this decision support system is able to provide student admission recommendations more accurately, fairly, and transparently compared to the manual process. Therefore, this system is expected to improve the quality of the selection process at MIN 2 OKU.
