Abstract

This study aims to analyse the effectiveness of applying error analysis in improving English writing skills for tourism among Diploma 3 Hospitality students at the Mataram Tourism College, Lombok. This study uses an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) approach with a descriptive-analytical design and learning intervention. Data were obtained from the creative writing assignments of fifth-semester students, which were analysed to identify the types and frequency of language errors, particularly in terms of grammar. The results of the analysis showed that the most dominant errors were errors in the use of verb tenses, especially the present tense and past tense, with developmental errors occurring more frequently than errors due to interference from the first language. Based on these findings, remedial learning was provided, focusing on the types of errors with the highest frequency. The results of the evaluation after the intervention showed a significant improvement in the accuracy of tense usage in students' writing. These findings indicate that error analysis is an effective and data-driven approach to improving English writing skills for tourism and supports more targeted learning planning.

Abstract

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education, particularly in academic writing, is growing rapidly and bringing both positive impacts and ethical challenges. On the one hand, AI can assist students in writing essays and scientific papers, but on the other hand, it has the potential to encourage dependence and unethical practices, especially in thesis writing. This study aims to identify the strategies implemented by lecturers in anticipating the unethical use of AI in students' academic writing. This study uses a quantitative approach involving six lecturers from Bumigora University as respondents. Data were collected through a questionnaire and analysed descriptively. The results show that lecturers implement various strategies, including providing guidance on the ethical use of AI, checking and evaluating students' writing, and providing education on academic integrity. These findings indicate that lecturers play a very important role in guiding the responsible use of AI so that this technology can support the learning process without neglecting ethical values and academic honesty.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe the ethnomathematical elements found in the bedug, a traditional musical instrument used by the community in Loura Subdistrict, Southwest Sumba Regency. The bedug not only functions as a musical instrument, but also has historical, philosophical, and visual value that reflects the cultural practices of the local community. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive ethnographic research type. Data were collected through direct observation, interviews with traditional leaders and local communities, and documentation of the shape and structure of the bedug. The results show that the bedug contains various mathematical concepts, particularly the concept of spatial geometry, such as circles and cylinders, which are evident in the shape of the base and body of the bedug. These findings indicate that the Sumba community has intuitively applied mathematical principles in cultural practices and the creation of traditional artefacts. This study contributes to the development of ethnomathematics-based mathematics learning by integrating local wisdom, thereby making learning more contextual, relevant, and meaningful for students.

Abstract

This study discusses the influence of digital media use on language skills and language politeness among elementary school students. The study aims to determine the effect size of digital media use on these two aspects and to describe the pattern of effect variation based on previous research findings. This research uses a quantitative approach with a meta-analysis study design. Research data were obtained from 12 research reports that met the inclusion criteria and discussed the use of digital media in language learning for elementary school students. The effect size of each study was calculated and then analyzed using a random-effects model. A heterogeneity test was conducted to examine the variation of effects across studies. The results of the research indicate that the use of digital media has a positive and significant impact on language skills and language politeness of elementary school students. In addition, the synthesis results show diversity in effects across studies, which is influenced by differences in research context, types of digital media used, characteristics of the participants, and the learning approaches applied.

Abstract

This study was motivated by learning obstacles experienced by fifth-grade elementary students in understanding data representation using bar charts, particularly in determining scales and interpreting data. The study aimed to identify these obstacles and develop a didactical design based on Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) to reduce them. The research employed Didactical Design Research (DDR), consisting of prospective analysis, implementation, and retrospective analysis. Data were collected through diagnostic tests, observations, interviews, and analysis of students’ work. The findings indicate that the learning obstacles were epistemological and didactical in nature. The implementation of the RME-based didactical design improved student engagement and conceptual understanding of data representation, although learning outcomes varied due to differences in prior knowledge. This study recommends further research to apply similar didactical designs to other statistical topics and educational levels to enhance students’ numeracy literacy

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of educational decentralization on management effectiveness in elementary schools. Educational decentralization grants schools broader authority in resource management, decision-making, and educational program planning. This research employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method (library research). Data were collected from various sources such as books, national and international journals, scholarly articles, and relevant educational policy reports. The findings indicate that educational decentralization has a positive effect on the management effectiveness of elementary schools, particularly in the aspects of program planning, implementation, and evaluation. However, the implementation of this policy faces challenges such as capacity disparities, limitations in human resources, and suboptimal regulations. Therefore, comprehensive supporting policies and enhanced human resource capacity are needed so that decentralization can optimally contribute to improving the managerial performance of elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the provision and amount of Employee Additional Income Allowance (Tambahan Penghasilan Pegawai, TPP) on employee performance, with instrumentality as a mediating variable and compensation justice perception as a moderating variable. The background of this study stems from the importance of TPP policy within the remuneration system of Indonesian civil servants, particularly in the Department of Education of Padang Lawas Utara Regency, which plays a strategic role in improving the quality of public services.            A quantitative survey approach was employed in this research. The study population consisted of 138 employees of the Department of Education of Padang Lawas Utara Regency, with 50 respondents selected as the sample using Slovin’s formula. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using path analysis with a standardized composite (PLS-like) approach, complemented by 5,000 bootstrap replications to test indirect (mediating) effects. The findings reveal that both the provision (X1) and the amount of TPP (X2) do not have a direct significant effect on employee performance (Y). However, both variables significantly affect instrumentality (M), which in turn significantly influences performance. Mediation testing confirms that instrumentality fully mediates the relationship between TPP and employee performance (full mediation). The perception of compensation fairness (Z) was not proven to be significant as a moderating variable. An R2 value of 0.614 for M and 0.625 for Y indicates that the model is able to explain the variation in the construct well.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the efficiency of the teppanyaki production process for the Nishimura teppan beef steak set menu at Nishimura Restaurant, Shangri-La Hotel Surabaya, by reviewing three main indicators, namely material usage, production time, and labour. The study uses a quantitative descriptive approach supported by qualitative data. Data collection was conducted through direct observation of the production process, recording of raw material usage, measurement of time at each stage of production, and interviews with chefs and related parties. Quantitative data were analysed descriptively using material efficiency percentage calculations, while qualitative data were analysed through reduction and interpretation of work phenomena to reinforce quantitative findings. The results showed that material usage had reached an efficiency level with a yield percentage of 81% and waste of 19%, reflecting controlled raw material management in accordance with quality standards. In terms of time, all stages of pre-preparation and live cooking can be completed on time without disrupting service. Labour efficiency is demonstrated through the adaptive use of working time, characterised by minimal idle time. Overall, the teppanyaki production system is considered efficient and supports the smooth operation of the restaurant
