Abstract

Moral and theological education plays a crucial role in shaping children's behavior. Morality, as manifested through ethical conduct, and aqidah (faith or belief) are interrelated elements that significantly influence personal development. This study aims to examine the impact of moral education and the application of aqidah on fostering positive behavior in children. Children who receive proper instruction in morality and aqidah tend to develop a positive outlook on life, form healthy social relationships, and grow into individuals who are kind, patient, and tolerant. Such education also provides a strong moral foundation that prepares them to face challenges and resist negative influences in their environment. The integration of aqidah and moral values into formal religious or character education curricula can enhance their effectiveness. Moreover, a comprehensive approach that involves families, educational institutions, and the wider community is essential in cultivating children's behavior. In conclusion, moral and theological education has a profound influence on children's development, enabling them to become ethically grounded individuals capable of contributing positively to society. Abstract

This study explores the significance of ethics education at SMPN 16 Krui, Pesisir Barat, with a particular focus on the implementation of values derived from Surah Al-Isra' verses 23–24, which emphasize respect for parents and other core Islamic ethical principles. The background of the study highlights behavioral challenges among students, such as a lack of respect toward teachers and low moral awareness. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that ethics education is implemented through both formal instruction and non-formal activities, including a "Character Week" program and daily routines such as queuing culture and congregational prayers. Interactive methods like group discussions and role-playing have proven effective in helping students internalize ethical values. The values embodied in Surah Al-Isra’ verses 23–24—such as compassion, humility, and patience—are highly relevant to contemporary educational contexts and are integrated into students' daily activities. Challenges in implementation include students’ low awareness, limited parental support, inadequate facilities, and a lack of teacher training. Nevertheless, regular evaluations and strong collaboration between schools and parents serve to enhance the program’s effectiveness. This study makes a tangible contribution to the development of character education based on Qur’anic values, particularly at SMPN 16 Krui, and presents a model that can be adapted by other schools.

Abstract

This article explores the ethical values within the Islamic tradition as a meaningful response to the contemporary global moral crisis, which permeates various dimensions of modern human life. Employing a qualitative-critical approach through library research, this study delves into classical and contemporary Islamic ethical texts, particularly the works of seminal thinkers such as Al-Ghazali, Ibn Miskawayh, and Al-Raghib Al-Isfahani. The findings reveal that Islamic ethics are not solely anchored in the normative framework of Shari'a, but also encompass profound spiritual dimensions and universal moral consciousness. Core values such as honesty (ṣidq), justice (ʿadl), trustworthiness, and compassion (raḥmah) are demonstrated to retain enduring relevance across diverse contemporary global contextsranging from politics and economics to intercultural relations. The article advocates for a dynamic reinterpretation of these transhistorical ethical principles to address pressing modern issues such as rampant individualism, systemic corruption, and the erosion of empathy. The study's implications extend beyond the field of Islamic studies, contributing to a broader, inclusive global ethical discourse grounded in religious moral traditions. Ultimately, the article calls for a revitalization of Islamic ethical values in education, public policy, and societal life to help shape a more just, compassionate, and spiritually enriched world.

Abstract

Many university instructors assess academic essay writing using general rubrics or borrowed instruments that do not align with specific course outcomes and learner profiles. This study was initiated to address this gap by developing a valid and reliable assessment instrument for academic essay writing among EFL university students, focusing on argumentative essays. The instrument was constructed systematically, involving needs analysis, expert validation, pilot testing, and statistical evaluation for reliability and validity. The trial was conducted with 6 students from the English Language Education Study Program, and their essays were rated by two trained raters. The results showed that the rubric successfully captured performance variation across six key writing components and allowed for consistent scoring with minimal discrepancies between raters. Expert validators confirmed that the rubric is clear, relevant, and aligned with academic essay writing expectations. Rater reliability analysis showed consistent inter-rater scores (score differences ≤1 point), indicating strong rubric usability. Based on these findings, this instrument offers a practical and theoretically grounded tool for assessing academic essay writing in EFL higher education settings.
