Abstract

This community service activity aims to analyze the implementation of the compost bag method as an educational medium to improve students' understanding of organic waste management at SD Negeri 2 Batuan Kaler. The main problems identified were students' low awareness and skills in sorting and processing organic waste, as well as the limited capacity of the existing waste storage facility (teba modern). The method used was a descriptive qualitative approach with a Design Thinking framework. The compost bag method was implemented through hands-on learning activities, where students were directly involved in collecting, sorting, and composting organic waste using compost bags. The results showed an improvement in students' understanding, indicated by an increase in the average pre-test score from 87.71 to 95.71 in the post-test. In addition, there was a reduction of organic waste volume by 400 kg, from 1,177.5 kg to 777.5 kg after the composting process. The compost bag method was also proven to be practical, cost-effective, and easy to implement at the elementary school level. Therefore, the compost bag method can serve as an effective and sustainable environmental education medium for organic waste management in elementary schools.

Abstract

The management of cadre development within the Muhammadiyah organization requires a structured administrative system to ensure effective and sustainable member development. However, at the Muhammadiyah Sorong Timur Branch, data management was still conducted manually, with about 80% of administrators relying on non-digital records, requiring 15–25 minutes to retrieve a single member's data. This community service aimed to improve organizational capacity through the implementation of a web-based Integrated Cadre Information System accompanied by training and mentoring. The method used a participatory approach, including needs analysis, system implementation, training, and evaluation. The results showed that the system facilitated more efficient and integrated data management. Post-test results of 21 participants showed an average score of 97.6, with 71% achieving perfect scores, indicating a high level of understanding. Interviews also revealed improved administrative efficiency. This activity supports organizational digital transformation through the integration of technology and human resource development.

Abstract

This community engagement program aimed to improve pre-service teachers' ability to manage research references using Zotero software through a participatory training and mentoring approach, involving 67 students from four study programs at Universitas Ibrahimy — Islamic Education (27 students), Arabic Language Education (20 students), Early Childhood Islamic Education (8 students), and Mathematics Education (12 students) — assisted by two supervising lecturers, with activities covering software installation, library management, citation integration in Microsoft Word, and structured evaluation. Average mastery rose from 38.75% before training to 87.50% afterward (a gain of 48.75 percentage points), attendance averaged 94% across all sessions, and 85% of participants reported satisfaction with the program, alongside reduced citation errors and improved ability to compile systematic bibliographies. While these results indicate that Zotero-based mentoring effectively strengthens students' academic writing quality and digital literacy, long-term effectiveness depends on continuous monitoring and institutional support to ensure consistent adoption beyond the training period, positioning this program as a replicable model for technology-based capacity building in higher education.

Abstract

Children of Indonesian migrant workers in Penang Island, Malaysia face some challenges in accessing decent and sustainable education. This study aims to analyze efforts to improve basic competencies as a strategy to develop their scientific capacity. This study focuses on two main aspects in improving educational character, such as religious and national knowledge. Improving religious competencies is through learning Islamic values and worship practices. This aims to form a strong religious character in a multicultural environment. Furthermore, efforts to improve national competencies are implemented through educational history, nationalist values, and introduction to Indonesian culture so that children continue to have a sense of love for their homeland. The results refer to a systematic educational approach based on the needs of migrant worker children so that they can significantly improve their basic competencies. Therefore, education for migrant worker children does not only function as a means of transferring knowledge but as a strategy to strengthen their identity, social integration, and future opportunities either nationally and internationally.

Abstract

Dependence on professional financial consultants remains a persistent barrier for most SME owners, particularly those operating with limited resources and minimal exposure to formal financial education. The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has created a concrete opportunity to address this gap — not through expensive systems, but through accessible tools such as AI-based chatbots. This community service program was designed to strengthen financial literacy and business self-reliance among SME owners through structured training on AI chatbot usage as a financial consultation medium. The program was carried out in three stages: training sessions, direct hands-on practice, and guided mentoring. A pre-test and post-test assessment was administered to measure knowledge gains across four indicators — financial literacy, AI concept comprehension, chatbot operation skills, and financial decision-making. Results show substantial improvement across all indicators, with the sharpest gains recorded in chatbot operation (114%) and AI comprehension (95%). Participants also reported greater confidence in managing daily financial records and making structured business decisions. These findings suggest that AI-based chatbot training is a viable, low-cost approach to accelerating the digital shift of SMEs in Indonesia.

Abstract

Verbal bullying still frequently occurs in elementary school settings, such as physical taunts or name-calling directed at parents, which students often dismiss as jokes. This behavior can negatively impact children's friendships and their sense of comfort while learning at school. This activity was designed to enhance students' knowledge and attitudes regarding verbal bullying and ways to prevent it. The activity was conducted at Dalung State Elementary School 1, involving 21 students through an educational outreach session. The material covered included the concept, forms, impacts, and prevention of bullying. The material was delivered interactively through brief explanations, discussions, and crossword puzzles. A pre-test was administered one week before the session, with 14 students participating, while 15 students took the post-test on the day of the activity. Data analysis of the 14 students who took both the pre-test and post-test showed improvements across all measured aspects, including understanding of bullying (42.9%), understanding of verbal bullying (42.9%), understanding of bullying prevention methods (42.9%), anti-bullying attitudes (21.4%), and commitment to not engage in bullying (28.6%). These results indicate that interactive socialization is effective in improving elementary school students' understanding of and anti-bullying attitudes toward bullying.

Abstract

The quality of Al-Qur'an recitation is often hindered by non-ideal teacher-student ratios and low student focus. This study aims to describe the implementation of the Ummi method to improve students' tartil skills at SDII Luqman Al Hakim 01 Batam through the School-Based Internship (PLP) program. The research follows a qualitative descriptive method with a case study approach. Data were gathered through participant observation and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that the presence of internship students helps maintain a proportional teacher-student ratio (1:11), allowing for more intensive guidance. The systematic application of the seven stages of the Ummi method shows improvements in makhraj accuracy and student fluency. Furthermore, modifications to the seating arrangement proved effective in minimizing focus distractions, which directly correlates with the progress recorded in students' achievement books. This study concludes that standardized methodology, systemic school support, and adaptive classroom management are essential factors in optimizing students' tartil recitation skills.

Abstract

This community service activity was motivated by the low understanding of students regarding Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) at SDN Bataan 2 Bondowoso. The objective of the activity was to improve students' understanding of PHBS through interactive education. The methods used included lectures, game-based learning, direct practice, and discussions on four materials, namely balanced nutrition, physical activity, personal hygiene, and environmental cleanliness. Evaluation was carried out using a written pre-test and oral post-test administered to 18 students in grades IV and V. The results showed an increase in student understanding across all materials. The highest increase occurred in personal hygiene at 44%, followed by environmental cleanliness at 37%, physical activity at 19%, and balanced nutrition at 6%. Direct practice was proven to help students understand PHBS material more readily than theoretical learning alone. This activity demonstrates that interactive learning is capable of improving PHBS understanding among elementary school students.

Abstract

This community service activity was motivated by the community's limited knowledge and skills in processing Nile tilapia into economically valuable products. The approach used was participatory counseling and training, including material delivery, practical demonstrations, discussions, and evaluation through pretest and posttest. The program involved 30 participants, consisting of housewives and local fishery entrepreneurs. The results showed an improvement in participants' understanding, with the average pretest score of 61.10 increasing to 82.23 in the posttest, along with the ability to comprehend all processing stages from raw material selection to packaging. This activity also encouraged the community's interest in developing fish-based businesses as an alternative means to increase household income and contributed to economic empowerment as well as strengthened participation in the development of local products.
