Abstract

Al-Qur'an regulates all forms of communication: with Allah, fellow humans, and spirits/jinn. In human Communication with Jinn, Allah reported through the story of the fall of the Prophet Adam and Siti Hawa from heaven after consuming the khuldi fruit. Both slipped because of a jinn's instigation in Allah's name. It proves that apart from Jinn and humans being able to communicate, the potential for deception is also genuine. Therefore, this research aims to explain the communication/relationship between humans and Jinn. This qualitative research method uses a thematic approach to verses from Al-Qur'an relating to human and Jinn communication. Data was from literature by analyzing books and scientific journals with similar themes. Data analysis uses the transcendental communication/magical communication paradigm. The research results show that Al-Qur'an explained that human Communication with Jinn exists. However, it does not need to be developed. Human and Jinn communication has many negative effects. The negative impact is that humans will always be filled with anxiety, will tend to commit crimes, and will be classified as the actions of people who are misguided and disobedient to Allah. Some Jinns are believers, and some are unbelievers. However, humans cannot differentiate them because they are supernatural beings. Communication between humans and Jinn generally occurs through ruqyah syar'iyyah rituals to improve the community's economy and shamanic practices.

Abstract

Communication allows individuals to express feelings, emotions, and opinions. Without communication, it would not be possible for the process of social interaction to occur, either individually or in groups. This study explored the communication method for memorizing short surahs, especially Juz Amma, at Taman Pendidikan Quran (the Quranic school). This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach in the field, where data collection is through observation, interviews, and documentation, which then involves three components of data analysis used, namely the Miles and Huberman interactive model approach, which includes the stages of data condensation, data presentation, and concluding. This study was conducted by collecting data from 10 ustadz and 30 students who were memorizing Juz Amma within a data collection period of six months, from January to June 2024. The results of this study found that the communication methods in memorizing short surahs, especially Juz Amma in the Quran education park, are divided into four, namely 1) Verbal communication, where the ustadz and ustadzah act as communicators who convey messages and the students as communicants who receive messages and respond to messages, such as pronouncing Juz Amma verses, questions and answers about tajwid learning, and delivering sermons. 2) Non-verbal communication, kinesis (body language); through eye contact, touch, gesture, posture, emotion, facial expression, and paralinguistic (vocal); through voice quality, volume, and speed of voice when the learning and memorization process takes place. 3) Steps before memorizing Juz Amma, such as sincere intentions, managing time, and learning tajwid and Tahsin. 4) Using the correct method according to the abilities of the students, namely, the wahdah method (repeating), and the jama’ method (reading together).

Abstract

West Java is a province that is synonymous with a polite, courteous, and friendly society. Still, ironically, West Java is claimed to be a province that is considered intolerant in matters of communication between religious communities. Even though in West Java there are many religious organizations, there are ulama in various regions, but the label as an intolerant province is challenging to get rid of. This research uses qualitative research with phenomenological theory to determine the da'wah communication by Sundanese ulama in maintaining religious tolerance in West Java. The research results show that the ulama is little involved because the ulama is busy coaching the congregation, solving fiqh problems, and improving the practice of ritual worship. Even if there are ulama who are busy with tolerance activities, this is initiated by the government, which holds various ceremonial activities; the ulama themselves do not have the initiative to keep them. The formal activities most often carried out by the government and ulama include the socialization of Governor Regulations, Laws, guidance, and dialogue between religious communities. There are two types of mass organizations and ulama in implementing ummah harmony, namely mass organizations and ulama, which are strict and firm without compromise. There are mass organizations and ulama who are moderate and love pluralism.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the da'wah model carried out among industrial communities. Sociologically, industrial society is characterized by various aspects of heterogeneity in life. As a transition from a phase of social life, industrial society is filled with individual characteristics of society and in multicultural, educational, economic, political, and religious groups. In subsequent developments, the transition to industrial society occurred due to the contribution of technological sophistication, especially information and communication technology. Specifically, research is directed at analyzing the development of cyberculture and its relationship to the transformation of preaching discourse in urban areas. The Pemuda Hijrah Community is the subject and object of the research being observed. The research was conducted from March to June 2024, using an interpretive paradigm, a qualitative approach, and case study methods. Data was collected using observation, documentation, and literature study techniques. The research results show that Hanan Attaki and the Pemuda Hijrah Community in Bandung City can be seen as a case of da'wah activities in industrial society. The characteristics and models of da'wah carried out by Hanan Attaki and Pemuda Hijrah can be a model for developing da'wah activities in urban areas. Therefore, this research found several essential aspects that can be used as a reference in observing the sociological process of da'wah activities in urban areas, which initially only involved young people but influenced various groups development. The impact was not only in Bandung but also became a trendsetter for urban da'wah in multiple regions (villages or cities) in Indonesia.

Abstract

The novel Dua Barista by Najhaty Sharma discusses equality in the background of Islamic boarding schools. As a caretaker of the Islamic boarding school, Najhaty Sharma makes her novel a da'wah medium to spread religious discourse, fiqh, kindness, fairness, and equality. As a tool of the author's da'wah, this novel provides an impressive perspective on living a polygamous life. This article examines the idea of equality in the novel Dua Barista. The method utilized in the research is novel-based literature, which is the object of research. The qualitative description method is used to look at data by its quotations in the text that show the idea of equality. The results of the study show that through narrative strategy, the author shows the partiality of the female protagonist in responding to body and reproductive matters and making monogamous marriage an option. This research has implications for the study of literature and gender through the literature of Islamic boarding schools depicting the character of beautiful, intelligent, brave, rebellious female characters and having a leadership spirit reflecting the idea of equality and resistance to the patriarchal culture in Islamic boarding schools. As a da'wah medium, literature can voice the idea of equality in Islamic boarding schools that are considered patriarchal

Abstract

This study explores how TikTok social media narratives affect public opinion on social issues related to Rohingya refugees in Aceh. This study analyzes the narrative of Rohingya refugee rejection in Aceh by studying TikTok social media content produced by Ali Hamzah, a content creator with 1.1 million followers. The focus of the research is the shift in the perspective of the Acehnese people from acceptance in 2015 to rejection in 2023-2024. This research uses a qualitative approach with a content analysis method to examine TikTok videos uploaded by Ali Hamzah from December 2023 to July 2024 with the theme of Rohingya refugees. The data were analyzed using thematic coding techniques to identify dominant narrative patterns. The results show that the narrative of rejection is formed through three main themes: criticism of the shelter system, security and legality issues, and socio-economic impact. Ali Hamzah uses a narrative strategy that includes emotional language, persuasive visual techniques, and framing the issue as a national security threat. The content produced by Ali Hamzah strengthens the shift in Acehnese’s perception of Rohingya refugees. This shift in perception has an impact on the refusal of Rohingya refugees by the Aceh people. The study concludes that social media plays an important role in shaping and reinforcing the sentiment of rejection towards Rohingya refugees in Aceh.

Abstract

This research critiques the conventional understanding of da'wah, often limited to propagation (tabligh), while overlooking other vital dimensions such as guidance (irsyad), administration (tadbir), and empowerment or consolidation (tathwir/tamkin). The study examines the development of transformative da'wah in Islamic institutionalization, education, and economic progress within Indonesia’s nation-building process.  The research adopts a social conflict perspective using a qualitative descriptive approach with a literature review and Max Weber's social change theory. Findings indicate that government focus remains centred mainly on da'wah as tabligh. However, transformative da'wah, particularly through Islamic educational institutions, requires a roader commitment to ensure equitable access across the nation. In the economic realm, establishing Islamic banks reflects significant progress in transformative da'wah. However, further improvement is needed in educational funding allocation. In the microeconomic context, Baitul Mal Wa Tamwil (BMT) faces regulatory overlaps that necessitate clearer policy support. The research concludes that while transformative da'wah in education and economy is moving positively, sustained government commitment is critical to optimize its role in strengthening Islamic values and contributing meaningfully to national development.

Abstract

This study examines the desensitization of Muslim society towards the quality of infotainment on television. Although the results of the KPI survey stated that infotainment broadcasts on television were considered to be of poor quality, the reality is that they persist and are in demand. Based on the theory of value and expectation, audiences tend to consume media content when their expectations are met repeatedly. This field research uses a mixed method with a quantitative approach to test the level of desensitization. The respondents also serve as informants as data in qualitative research to determine perceptions, influencing factors, and consumption patterns of infotainment. The sample was a purposive sampling of 47 Muslims in Pekalongan with instruments adopted from the KPI survey. Data analysis used regression analysis and value and expectation theory. Desensitization in this study can be interpreted in two forms: (1) hypothesis, the audience is aware of the low quality of infotainment but still watches it, or (2) findings, the audience considers infotainment to be of good quality but rarely watches it. Compared to the national and quantitative KPI survey, this study focuses on the Muslim society in Pekalongan using a mixed-method approach. The results show that the majority of Muslims in Pekalongan still watch infotainment solely for entertainment, not because of its quality.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the tendency of religious discussions carried out by grassroots communities 'untouched by online media' in the southern region of East Java. This research employs a quantitative approach to measure the tendencies of grassroots communities in Southern East Java regarding beliefs, practices, experiences, knowledge, and expectations of reward consequences. The study focuses on the regions of Malang, Trenggalek, Lumajang, and Blitar. Data collection was conducted through semi-open interviews with 40 purposively selected respondents. Data analysis utilized descriptive statistics to explain the trends in religious communication within these communities. The findings indicate that the propensity to engage in discussions about religious beliefs is intricately connected to topics such as the Oneness of God, appeals for assistance, concepts of destiny, the nature of Allah, and the interplay between religion and government. The highest score for religious communication is associated with discussions on the Oneness of God, which reached 82.50%. Examining tendencies related to religious knowledge and practices includes topics such as prayer, zakat (obligatory charity), fasting, Hajj, and approaches to attaining closeness to Allah, with prayer services achieving a significant score of 77.50%. In the analysis of religious experiences encompassing Islamic teachings, virtuous behaviors, immoral conduct, and individual experiences, the highest recorded score is 72.50%. The results reveal that discourse surrounding cooperation in righteousness is the most prevalent form of religious communication within grassroots communities, attaining a score of 90.00%. The emphasis on the Oneness of God and the observance of prayer services also underscores the community's commitment to core religious beliefs and practices.
