Abstract

The problem of the research is: “How are the students’ perception between distance learning and classroom learning at English Education Study Program of STKIP PGRI Lubuklinggau”. The objectives of the research were to find out and to describe Students’ perceptions about distance learning and classroom learning at English Education Study Program of STKIP PGRI Lubuklinggau. The sample was 30 students of English Education Study Program. The samples were taken through stratified random sampling. The researcher used a survey research, and the data were collected by using questionnaire and interview. Techniques for analyzing the data used simple basic statically techniques. The data were score by using Likert Scale. The result of the research was the students studied negative and positive with distance learning; students cannot handle the whole material perfectly because distance learning was signals of phone and the mobile data, they had a flexibility in taking time on work. They more understanding the material when they used technology. Besides, in the result studied negative and positive of classroom learning; the time and energy that is used more in learning activities. They had better interaction between students and lecture because learning in class interaction between lecturers and students is closer both emotionally and verbally. Abstract

This study was conducted to know the students’response toward collaborative writing in narrative text. The study participants were selected based on the teacher's recommendation from the computer networking class of the vocational school in Karawang's eleventh grade with six students were asked to fill the task writing narrative text, and fill the interviewees to share their opinion about writing English narrative text pair with friend. The data from observation and interviews.the result of this study is , students response to collaborative pair writing experience were mostly very positive and only 1 out 6 said that would have preferred to write individually. The learners who wrote in pairs tended to prefer this condition, because it encourage more opportunities for active in the text . However, those who wrote with pairs felt that there were more ideas and knowledge to share, and therefore more possibilities for language development. Abstract

This research aimed to explain the English Pragmatic Competence of Col language speakers in using directive act and to find out the extent to which Col language pragmatic competence influence the production of English pragmatic competence in directive act. The method used descriptive qualitative. The research subjects were 20 students who studied English consisting of students, collage students and graduates at Lubuklinggau. The data were collected by using questionnaire and pragmatic competence test. After that, the data were analyzed with description. The result of this research is that the pragmatic competence of Col language using directive acts is more understandable because respondents understand the use of language in the right situation may be different. The tests that have been carried out show that many of the respondents' answers are appropriate. They use English only in educational domains such as schools, colleges and courses. Therefore, the frequency of use of English is limited and other languages are used more frequently. In almost all expressions there is no significant negative transfer from L1 and L2 production to English, as all percentages below 50% except 57,5% command expressions have little influence on English production. These errors were found in the use of expressions in several formal situations, but they were not significant because not many pragmatic errors were found. In conclusion is that Col people understand how to use appropriate expressions in different situations, namely formal and informal situations, even though only the expressions of command have little influence. Abstract

This research aimed to explain the English Pragmatic Competence of Col language speakers in using expressive and commissive acts and to find out the extent to which Col language pragmatic competence influence the production of English pragmatic competence in expressive and commissive acts. The method used descriptive qualitative. The research subjects were 20 students who studied English consisting of students, collage students and graduates at Lubuklinggau. The data were collected by using questionnaire and pragmatic competence test. After that, the data were analyzed with description. From tests conducted by researcher, informants answered all tests according to different situations. The pragmatic competence of Col language speakers in using expressive and commissive acts, most of them understand that. Of all the expressions, there is no significant negative transfer from L1 and L2 production to English because all percentages are below 50%, which means they don't influence in English pragmatic production. In conclusion, Col speakers understand the use of appropriate expressions in different situations, namely in formal and informal situations. Abstract

Beliefs (understanding) are something that consciously or unconsciously influences a person's habits. Therefore, Beliefs influence what a person says, means and does. So, Beliefs will have an impact on the teacher's treatment in teaching. Especially in developing autonomy (independence) in students. This research includes descriptive qualitative research. Participants in this research were teachers at SMK N 1 Kec. Luak and SMA N 1 Kec. Lareh Sago Halaban 2016/2017 academic year. There are 4 (four) teachers at SMK N 1 Kec. Luak and there are 3 (three) teachers at SMA N 1 Kec. Lareh Sago Halaban. The author uses a questionnaire as a data source. There are 24 items in the questionnaire. Questionnaires were analyzed using a Likert scale. Based on the results of the Likert scale, the author uses an interval formula to find the score of the teacher's understanding of independent learning. The results of this research describe English teachers' understanding of learning. First, overall English teachers do not have enough confidence that independent learning can be implemented well in their schools. Second, English teachers lack understanding of the definition of independence. Third, English teachers have very little understanding of the role of teachers, students and teaching materials in teaching children to be independent. Fourth, teachers really believe their students can be responsible for their learning. Fifth, English teachers do not understand how to develop students' independence. Abstract

The research aims at 1) identifying the variety choice among native Lubuklinggau as EFL speakers between H and L variety and 2) explaining the attrition as the effect of language attitude. This is a descriptive-qualitative research. The data were collected from questionnaire and interview derived from 17 participants who are the Col language speakers in Lubuklinggau as EFL speakers. The result shows that H variety is preferred to use in public speaking, talking to a superior and doing assignment. L variety is used in chatting online, and talking to someone close. By analyzing the data, it is also found out that the informants has positive attitude toward their H and L variety to use them in different settings. Therefore, the language attrition can be fainted to avoid the language shift or lost. Keywords: Col Language, Diglossia, Language Attitude

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the University Students’ Needs in Learning General English Subject at PGRI Silampari University and the lecturer needs in designing RPS. The method in this research was descriptive qualitative. The population of this research was non English education study program students especially history education study program consist of 130 students. The sample of this research was sixth semester students with 28 students that was choosen by using purposive sampling. The data were collected by using questionnaire and interview. After that, the data were analyzed with description. The results showed that the purpose most of students learn English is being able to communicate with English and can speak English fluently. The students’ want from the lecturer were to help them to mastering English skills, make an enjoyable class, and give them interesting teaching method. Students’ wants of using English skills were they can being able to communicate with English, they can understand what the lecturer said in English, and can help them in applying job in the future. Furthemore, the students’ lacks were in speaking English, lack in writing, lack in listening and less of confidence with their skills. As the conclusion, the students’ needs more spesific English material that related to their major and interesting learning method from the lecturer to fulfil their needs. The lecturers’ need in designing syllabus were the lecturer should know the used of curiculum and what do the students usually learn. From those aspect the lecturer looking for the references that can be used to design materials to be given in one semester, which are on the syllabus add English components and English skills that related to their need and major. Abstract

This study analyzes the translation process used in the Hans Christian Anderson short story "Thumbelina," which was translated into Indonesian by research participants, students. The researcher applied translation theory, which is based on Newmark Theory, in translation analysis procedures. The researcher saw that there were many different approaches showing up in the translation results, therefore we were interested in finding out what kinds of equivalency translation the participants were doing to improve the target language's readability. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach that incorporates document analysis and observation. As a result, the researcher discovers that the university students employed six different techniques to translate the short story "Thumbelina" into the target language. Literal Method was employed by the five participants the most frequently (87 times). Communicative Method came in second place with a total of 72 instances. However, with just 14 translation methods utilized, Free Translation was the least popular option among the participants. In contrast, the participants employed the word-for-word technique 43 times, the adaptation method 42 times, and the faithful method 26 times. In this case, the students translated the narrative text using multiple approaches. This study is useful for teaching and learning practice as the research highlight the importance of considering target language readability when translating literary works from the source language. Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has compelled the Indonesian government, via the Ministry of Education and Culture, to enact laws switching from traditional classrooms to online learning environments. This study, which is a collective case study, analyzes survey data regarding students' opinions of their online education during the pandemic. This study involved 71 students from Nurul Huda University Sukaraja's English Language Education Study Program. Using a survey, the opinions of the students regarding online education during the COVID-19 pandemic were noted and documented. This study concentrated on how the students felt about their involvement in the online course, how accessible they felt about the material and assignment delivery, and how they used e-learning platforms to complete their homework at home. Tables and narrative summaries of the findings followed .Additionally, this study found three main issues with the way the Nurul Huda University English Language Education Study Program conducts online instruction. The first concerns the accessibility of the teaching materials, the second the availability of the internet connection, and the third the interoperability of the student devices. Based on the findings, it appears that the primary element contributing to the success of online learning is still accessibility. Keywords: Covid-19 E-Learning Student’s Perception.

Abstract

This research purposes are to find out how the student’s emotional engagement towards in the use of read, cover, remember and retell strategy in Reading comprehension This student uses qualitative research with design case study. In this study researcher conduct research at Indonesia public junior high school in a town in west java. the participant 6 student in one class for collecting data researcher used observation and interview. This research carries four main findings, they are: 1) RCRR strategy crates student interest in reading comprehension in reading comprehension; 2) RCRR strategy creates a positive emotions and enjoyable learning. these findings substantiate the notion that the RCRR strategy not only enhances reading comprehension outcomes but also enriches the emotional dimension of learning. By fostering interest, engagement, and positive emotions, the strategy emerges as a valuable approach in promoting holistic and effective learning experiences within the realm of reading comprehension. As educators seek to optimize instructional methods, the RCRR strategy offers a promising avenue to elevate both student engagement and comprehension outcomes.
