Abstract

Obesity is a condition of the body resulting from excessive fat accumulation which leads to health problems. The increase in fat metabolism affects increased production of free radicals in the circulation and in adipocyte cells. Free radicals that increase in the body are not in line with antioxidant enzymes, causing a condition called oxidative stress. The body's defense mechanism against free radicals is the synthesis of antioxidants. When there is a decrease in the activity of endogenous antioxidants such as the catalase enzyme, it provides a strong indication of oxidative stress. The presence of polyphenols and monounsaturated fatty acids in olive oil is useful for preventing chronic damage that causes oxidative stress. The catalase enzyme can be used as a parameter for an uncontrolled increase in ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species) or disruption of the function of the antioxidant defense system. To determine changes in levels of the catalase enzyme in an obese male Wistar strain white rat (Rattus norvegicus) animal model that was given olive oil. This research used a true experimental laboratory with a pre- post test design. The results of the study were significant changes in catalase enzyme levels in the olive oil intervention group (p-value 0.003<0.05) on day 14 and day 28 with (p-value 0.002<0.05 and 0.005<0.05). In the group given olive oil, the effect on the level of catalase enzyme was most significant on day 28 (p-value 0.002<0.05).

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever ranked among the top 10 diseases with 193 cases in the Inpatient Hospital of Haji Hospital, Makassar City in 2018. The WHO's Dengue Virus Infection (IVD) classification with 7 Warning Signs helps identify severe IVD risks in both pediatric and adult patients. A retrospective cohort study analyzed 132 medical records of pediatric patients aged 4 months to 18 years using Purposive Sampling. Most IVD patients were aged 5-18 years (72.8%), male (56.1%), had good nutritional status (69.7%), and experienced fever for <4 days before treatment (58.3%). Significant risk factors for IVD with Warning Signs included gender (p-value 0.029) and nutritional status (p-value 0.025), while age (p-value 0.914) and duration of fever (p-value 0.323) were not significant. Gender and nutritional status are significant risk factors for IVD with Warning Signs.

Abstract

Anemia poses a growing health concern within the community, particularly among pregnant women who require special attention due to increased nutritional needs for fetal development. The aim of this research is to identify the factors associated with anemia among pregnant women at the Kotaraja Health Center. This type of research is analytical observation with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample consisted of 156 individuals selected from a population of 202. The study utilized simple random sampling as The sampling technique. The results indicated a significant association between age and anemia in pregnant women P-value (0.035), nutritional status P-value (0.004), the ANC frequency P-value (0.009), and infection diseases P-value (0.035). However, the parity variable showed no significant association with anemia in pregnant women, as indicated by a p-value (0.097). In conclusion, age, nutritional status, frequency of ANC visits, and infection diseases all have a significant association with the incidence of anemia in pregnant women.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) affects over 693 million adults globally by 2045, with complications like neuropathy underscoring the need for effective monitoring. This observational case-control study at Ibnu Sina Hospital, Makassar, explores the relationship between HbA1c levels, fasting blood sugar (GDP), disease duration, and diabetic neuropathy. Analyzing 77 medical records, the study found that most participants were aged 56-65 years, predominantly male, with high rates of uncontrolled HbA1c (80.5%) and GDP (67.5%). Diabetic neuropathy prevalence was 61.0%. Statistical analysis revealed significant correlations between neuropathy and HbA1c levels (p=0.000), GDP (p=0.002), and disease duration (p=0.041). These findings highlight the impact of glycemic control and disease duration on neuropathy in DM patients.

Abstract

Otitis externa is an inflammation of the ear canal that can extend to the outer ear or tympanic membrane, commonly caused by bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Warm, humid environments and risk factors such as age, gender, body weight, physical activity, and environmental conditions contribute to its development. Symptoms include ear pain, discharge, itching, and occasionally hearing loss. This Narrative Review analyzed 10 articles from 2020 to 2024 to identify characteristic risk factors of otitis externa. Findings reveal that the condition predominantly affects late adolescents and individuals aged 17-40 years. The review concludes that otitis externa can occur in any age group or gender, with certain occupations, like those involving art materials, showing higher incidence rates, and diffuse otitis externa primarily impacting productive age patients.

Abstract

Flood is one of the hydrometeorological disasters that have occurred in Indonesia in recent years. Jakarta is one of the cities that is prone to flood. This research was conducted to analyse the infrastructure affected by floods in Kembangan Sub-district, West Jakarta based on Geographic Information System. Data processing was processed using QGIS 3.16, and then analysed using Excel. The results show that Kembangan Sub-district has low physical vulnerability. However, physical vulnerability can increase if more infrastructure is affected if flooding is not taken seriously by the community and government.
