Abstract

Communication skills are one of the important aspects in mathematics education, which aims to make students more enthusiastic, broad-minded, and focused on a problem. Efforts to improve students' mathematical communication skills include applying appropriate learning models. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) learning model on students' mathematical communication skills. This study adopted a quantitative method through a quasi-experimental design. The population studied consisted of all seventh-grade students at SMP Swasta Dharma Patra Pkl. Susu. Two classes were selected as samples: class VII-1 with 30 students as the experimental class and class VII-2 with 30 students as the control class. The research tool used was an essay test on the topic of quadrilaterals measured by providing pretest and posttest questions. The data analysis process was carried out using the T-test in the SPSS 22 application. The results of the study showed a difference in mathematical communication skills between students who received learning through the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) model and students who received conventional teaching. Based on the results of the T-test at a significance level of 5% with degrees of freedom (dk) = 58, the t-value obtained was 2.589, which exceeds the t-table value of 2.0017. This means that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that students taught with the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) learning model have better mathematical communication skills than students taught through conventional learning.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has transformed education and social interaction; thus, Islamic education plays a crucial role in building social awareness through moral values, empathy, and solidarity derived from the Qur'an and Sunnah. This study utilised a literature review with the keywords "Islamic Education," "Social Awareness," and "Digital Era," and the inclusion criteria were original articles published in Indonesian or English from 2020 to 2025. The study's findings indicate that Islamic education fosters character and social awareness, addressing challenges in the digital era such as individualism and the dominance of virtual interactions, while simultaneously leveraging technological opportunities, including AI and collaborative learning, with an understanding of digital literacy. Comparisons from several countries confirm that both religion-based and ethics-based education emphasise a balance between digital competence and social character development. In conclusion, Islamic education equips students with digital competence and social awareness, fostering integrity, wisdom, and responsibility. Collaborative integration with parents and the community is recommended.

Abstract

This journal discusses a critique of secular Western scientific thought, which views knowledge as value-neutral and recognizes truth only based on empirical observation. This perspective has influenced Islamic education in Indonesia, particularly by creating a division between religious knowledge and general knowledge. This problem is evident in the secondary-level Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum, which applies a purely procedural learning approach, thereby failing to fully support the holistic character development of students in accordance with Islamic teachings. This study aims to develop a model for renewing Islamic scientific thinking that can be practically applied to address the influence of secularism in education. The research adopts a qualitative approach through library research. Data are analyzed by interpreting Islamic sources, comparing them with Western modes of thought, and synthesizing them into educational concepts aligned with Islamic values. The results show that the renewal of Islamic scientific thinking must be grounded in Tawhid as the primary foundation, integrating revelation, reason, and empirical experience in the learning process. The proposed model is a Tawhid-based spiral curriculum that connects Islamic Religious Education with general sciences, along with an assessment system that measures not only knowledge but also students’ attitudes and spiritual development through teacher observation, self-reflection, and peer assessment. In conclusion, renewing Islamic scientific thinking is essential for producing knowledge that is beneficial, ethical, and aligned with the core objectives of Islamic teachings. Abstract

The implementation of Indonesia's Merdeka Curriculum relies on digital technology integration to create flexible and student-centered learning. This systematic review synthesizes evidence from 21 research articles (2019-2025) to map key enabling factors and challenges. Results reveal three key enablers: the effectiveness of specific digital tools (such as interactive e-worksheets and LMS), the alignment of technology with the curriculum's pedagogical principles (differentiated and project-based learning), and curriculum flexibility that provides space for innovation. Conversely, five systemic challenges were identified: digital infrastructure disparities, limited teacher techno-pedagogical competence (TPACK), scarcity of contextual digital learning resources, complexity of authentic technology-based assessment, and policy fragmentation across government levels. In conclusion, digital transformation requires an integrated approach that simultaneously addresses infrastructure gaps, empowers teachers through continuous TPACK development, strengthens digital content ecosystems, and improves policy coordination. Future research directions include longitudinal studies to measure long-term impact, design-based research for curriculum-specific digital tools, and analysis of implementation policies at the regional level.

Abstract

This study aims to explore English teachers’ experiences in implementing joyful learning amid administrative and bureaucratic constraints within schools. Employing a qualitative phenomenological design, the research investigates the meanings, challenges, and strategies developed by teachers in their daily instructional practices. The participants were 12 English teachers from various educational levels in North Sumatra, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and analysis of instructional as well as administrative documents. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that teachers perceive joyful learning as an approach that enhances student engagement, motivation, and positive classroom atmosphere; however, its implementation is frequently constrained by administrative burdens such as curriculum documentation, performance reports, and formal evaluation demands. Teachers experience tension between pedagogical ideals and bureaucratic expectations, yet they develop adaptive strategies including integrated planning, professional collaboration, and the use of simple technologies to sustain instructional quality. The study concludes that the successful implementation of joyful learning is strongly influenced by institutional support and educational policies that prioritize teachers’ pedagogical needs. Therefore, it is recommended that policymakers reconsider teachers’ administrative workload and strengthen professional development programs that promote a balanced integration of systemic demands and humanistic teaching practices.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the integration of Ki Hadjar Dewantara’s philosophical thoughts into the development of school principals’ entrepreneurial competencies within the context of modern education. In an era of global disruption, school principals are required to transcend traditional administrative roles, evolving into independent innovators capable of calculated risk-taking. However, contemporary entrepreneurial models often risk drifting toward pure commercialization. This study employs a qualitative library research method, utilizing content analysis to examine the primary works of Ki Hadjar Dewantara alongside contemporary educational management literature. The findings indicate that school principals’ entrepreneurial competence is deeply rooted in the concept of “Independence” (Kemandirian) and the “Trikon” principles (Continuity, Convergence, and Concentricity). The entrepreneurial spirit, through Dewantara’s lens, is manifested as an innovative “Pamong” leadership style that balances modernization with cultural roots and student-centered interests. Furthermore, the Niteni, Nirokke, Nambah (3-N) strategy serves as a practical framework for sustainable institutional innovation. This study concludes that the synthesis of modern management and local wisdom produces a humanistic entrepreneurial leadership model, enabling school organizational independence while preserving the core identity of national education.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of using the ELSA Speak Application integrated with the demonstration method on students' pronunciation practice. Pronunciation is an essential aspect of English language teaching that directly influences speaking ability, yet many students face challenges due to native language interference and lack of oral exposure. This research was conducted at SMP Plus Nusantara Medan involving 12 seventh-grade students selected through a purposive sampling technique. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a single group pre-test and post-test design. Data were collected from the results of students' pre-test and post-test scores, which were then analyzed using statistical tests. Before hypothesis testing, normality and homogeneity tests were conducted, showing that the data were normally distributed and homogeneous. The result of the paired t-test showed a p-value (sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000, which is significantly smaller than the significance level (α=0.050). It was obtained that the t-statistical value was higher than the table t-value (43.203 > 2.201). Therefore, the null hypothesis (H0 ) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha ) was accepted. The findings demonstrate that the ELSA Speak Application integrated with the demonstration method significantly improved students' pronunciation practice. This approach is recommended as an effective teaching strategy to enhance students' phonetic skills.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and describe the mathematical concepts embedded within the Gedogan Karo weaving loom at the Jamin Gintings National Hero Museum. The primary focus is to identify the application of ethnomathematics in the tool's structure and the process of weaving traditional Karo cloth (Uis Karo). The methodology employed in this research is qualitative with an ethnographic approach. Data were collected through direct observation of artifacts in the museum, technical documentation, and a literature study regarding the weaving techniques of the Karo people to dissect the underlying mathematical elements. The results and discussion indicate an integration of formal mathematical concepts across four main aspects: (1) Geometry, through the formation of parallel lines in the warp threads and perpendicular relationships in the weft threads; (2) Geometric Transformation, evident in the symmetry, reflection, and translation patterns of the Uis Karo motifs; (3) Binary Logic, in the thread-lifting technique that resembles computer algorithm systems; and (4) Trigonometry, in the thread tension mechanism which depends on the leaning angle of the weaver's body. The conclusion of this study is that the Gedogan Karo loom is a manifestation of local wisdom that intuitively applies complex mathematical principles. The author suggests that these ethnomathematical exploration results be integrated into the formal mathematics education curriculum as contextual learning material. This is crucial for increasing students' interest in mathematics while simultaneously strengthening efforts to preserve Karo cultural heritage in the modern era.
