Journal International of Lingua and Technology is published by Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam Al-Hikmah Pariangan Batusangkar, West Sumatra, Indonesia. is an international peer reviewed and open access journal in language education. The aim is to publish conceptual and research articles that explore the application of any language in teaching and the everyday experience of language in education. Its scope is international in that it welcomes articles from academics, researchers, graduate students and policy makers. All articles should be in English. The rapid growth of digital technologies has significantly transformed communication, particularly in online spaces where people engage in diverse forms of interaction. In Indonesia, online communities have become central to shaping public discourse and social norms. However, the increasing reliance on digital platforms raises concerns about digital literacy and the responsible use of language. This study explores the role of digital literacy and wise language use within online communities in Indonesia, focusing on how individuals navigate online interactions and the implications of their language practices. The aim of this research is to examine how members of online communities in Indonesia exhibit digital literacy and how they incorporate wise language use in their interactions. A qualitative research design, utilizing semi-structured interviews and content analysis of online communication, was employed to collect data from members of various online communities. The results revealed that while most participants demonstrated strong digital literacy skills, there was a notable variance in the application of wise language use. Some members employed respectful and thoughtful language, while others exhibited aggressive or harmful communication. In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of fostering both digital literacy and wise language use to improve the quality of online interactions. Recommendations for promoting these skills in online communities are discussed.

The development of parallel corpora plays a crucial role in the fields of translation studies, computational linguistics, and comparative linguistics. While significant parallel corpora have been developed for major languages like English, the availability of such resources for Indonesian-English translation research remains limited. This study aims to develop a comprehensive Indonesian-English parallel corpus, specifically designed to aid translation research and enhance linguistic comparisons between these two languages. The corpus is intended to serve as a foundational resource for further studies on machine translation, linguistic patterns, and cross-linguistic influence. The research adopts a corpus-driven methodology, where the corpus is compiled from diverse sources, including literary texts, news articles, academic papers, and everyday discourse, to ensure a broad representation of language use. The corpus is annotated for both syntax and semantics, with a focus on aligning sentence structures and identifying key linguistic features in both languages. The analysis of the corpus reveals significant differences and similarities in sentence structure, word order, and translation equivalence between Indonesian and English. The findings highlight the potential of the corpus to facilitate various types of linguistic research and translation studies. It serves as a valuable tool for enhancing the quality of machine translation systems and provides insights into the challenges of translating between Indonesian and English.

The integration of Augmented Reality (AR) technology into language learning applications has become increasingly popular due to its potential to enhance user engagement and improve learning outcomes. However, the usability and user experience (UX) of such applications are critical factors that determine their effectiveness. This study explores the usability and UX of language learning applications utilizing AR technology, aiming to evaluate how these applications meet the needs and preferences of users, and how they influence learning efficiency. The research adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews with users who have engaged with AR-based language learning applications. Participants were asked to assess the usability aspects, such as ease of navigation, user interface design, and responsiveness, as well as their overall experience and satisfaction. The results show that users generally find AR-based language learning applications engaging and enjoyable, particularly for vocabulary acquisition and interactive learning activities. However, challenges related to technical issues, such as device compatibility and software glitches, were identified as barriers to a seamless experience. The study concludes that while AR has the potential to revolutionize language learning, further improvements in application stability, content design, and personalization are necessary to optimize usability and user satisfaction.

The design of user interfaces for early childhood education applications plays a crucial role in facilitating effective learning experiences. With the rise of digital technologies, natural language interfaces have become an essential tool, particularly in language learning applications for young children. However, there remains a gap in understanding how to design natural language interfaces that are both engaging and educational for early learners. This study focuses on the design and evaluation of a natural language-based interface for an English language learning application aimed at children aged 4 to 7. The primary objective is to explore how a conversational, child-friendly interface can enhance language acquisition while ensuring usability and engagement. The research employs a design-based approach, involving iterative prototyping and testing with a group of 30 preschool children. The interface incorporates voice recognition and conversational AI to facilitate interactive learning. User feedback and performance data were analyzed to assess usability, engagement, and learning outcomes. The results indicate that children responded positively to the natural language interface, with improved engagement and retention in language learning tasks. The intuitive design and conversational elements were found to be particularly effective in maintaining attention and enhancing comprehension. This study highlights the potential of natural language interfaces in early childhood education, demonstrating that well-designed interfaces can significantly contribute to language learning in young children.

The increasing need for cross-lingual communication in a globalized world has driven innovations in machine translation, with the aim of breaking down language barriers. Traditional machine translation models rely on large parallel corpora for training, but zero-shot machine translation (MT) offers a promising alternative by enabling translation between language pairs without requiring direct training data. This study explores the potential of generative AI in zero-shot MT, focusing on its ability to bridge languages with minimal linguistic resources. The research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of zero-shot MT using generative AI models in translating between languages that lack extensive parallel corpora. The study uses a comparative approach, assessing the performance of generative AI models against traditional MT systems on several language pairs, particularly focusing on low-resource languages. The results show that generative AI-based zero-shot models can produce high-quality translations across multiple languages, even those with limited or no parallel data. The findings suggest that zero-shot MT has the potential to revolutionize global communication by offering a scalable, efficient solution for languages with insufficient resources. This research concludes that generative AI's ability to perform zero-shot machine translation has significant implications for improving cross-cultural communication and expanding access to information, with important applications in education, business, and diplomacy.

Understanding how the human brain processes language has been a long-standing challenge in neuroscience and cognitive science. Recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), particularly in neural networks, have opened new avenues for investigating the representation of language in the brain. This study explores the relationship between semantic and syntactic representations in neural models and human brain activity. By comparing how deep learning models and the human brain process linguistic structures, this research seeks to bridge the gap between computational models and biological systems. The research aims to analyze the similarities and differences in how neural models and the human brain represent syntactic and semantic information. Using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data from brain activity during language processing tasks, and applying AI models trained on large language datasets, this study investigates the neural correlates of syntax and semantics. The results show that certain regions of the brain correspond to the syntactic structures processed by AI models, while others align more closely with semantic representations. The neural network models exhibited high correspondence with brain activity patterns, particularly in tasks involving sentence structure and meaning comprehension. This study concludes that AI models can be used to enhance our understanding of how language is represented in the brain, offering valuable insights into both neuroscience and artificial intelligence.

The rapid decline of regional languages poses a significant challenge to cultural preservation and linguistic diversity. As globalization and digitalization continue to spread, regional languages are at risk of being overshadowed by dominant languages. This research explores the potential of technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI) and gamification, to revitalize regional languages by enhancing language learning applications. The study aims to develop and evaluate an AI-driven, gamified language learning application designed to promote the acquisition and preservation of regional languages. The research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining the development of the language learning application with usability testing and user feedback. The application integrates AI to provide personalized learning experiences and uses gamification elements to increase engagement and motivation. The effectiveness of the application was tested through pilot studies with users from different age groups, focusing on language retention, engagement, and user satisfaction. The results show that the AI and gamification-based application significantly improved language retention and engagement among participants. Users reported higher motivation and enjoyment compared to traditional language learning methods, and the application was particularly effective in making learning more interactive and appealing for younger audiences. This study concludes that integrating AI and gamification into language learning applications can play a pivotal role in revitalizing regional languages, providing a scalable and engaging solution for preserving linguistic heritage.

The purpose of this study was to provide the need, feasibility and practicality of the Ispring Suite-assisted Teaching Skills Guidebook to Improve Professional Teachers of Nurul Yaqin Islamic Boarding School in Batipuh Ateh Tanah Datar. The research method to be applied in this study is the 4D research and development (R&D) model, which involves four stages, namely define, design, develop, and disseminate. This research focuses on the first three stages, namely define, design, and develop. The participants in this study were nine Arabic language subject teachers using the yellow book at Pondok Pesantren Nurul Yaqin Nurul Yaqin Batipuh Ateh Tanah Datar. Data collection was carried out through validity sheets and practicality sheets as research instruments. The result of the research is that the basic guide material for teaching Arabic using iSpring Suite is Very Effective to use.

Social media is part of the digital change that colors the world of communication. The increasingly rapid development brings changes in the language structure adopted from online platforms. The TikTok and Instagram applications that are currently often used by teenagers present an informal language style. This informal language is called slang. Slang is often used by teenagers to simplify language and find identity. However, this often leads to hate speech, violence, and even impoliteness in communication. So this study aims to pay special attention to the challenges posed by slang. Politeness as a necessity must not fade among teenagers. This will also affect acts of violence, hatred and other immoral acts. In this study, researchers used quantitative methods. This is useful for determining the influence of the use of slang among teenagers in communicating. Comparison of views from the questions asked will be the results and discussions. The results of this study in the form of TikTok and Instagram allow teenagers to create and spread new slang quickly. Usage tends to adapt words and phrases according to trends and popular content on this platform. Teenagers who use social media intensively are more likely to use slang in everyday communication. The conclusion of this study is that social media, especially TikTok and Instagram, contribute significantly to the development of slang among teenagers. These platforms accelerate the spread and adoption of new terms, enable language creativity and help build group identity.

The rapid evolution of language in the digital age has led to significant lexical changes in contemporary Indonesian, particularly in online mass media. The rise of digital platforms, social media, and internet-based communication has contributed to the rapid development of new vocabulary, slang, and expressions. This study aims to analyze these lexical changes over time, focusing on their manifestation in Indonesian online mass media. By using computer-based corpus analysis, the research investigates how language evolves within this digital context, identifying the frequency, usage, and context of newly coined terms and shifting meanings. The research employs a diachronic approach, analyzing a corpus of Indonesian online news articles and social media posts from the last two decades. The study focuses on lexical items that have emerged or significantly changed in meaning during this period. Through computational tools such as natural language processing (NLP), the study tracks these lexical shifts and examines their social and cultural implications. The findings show a marked increase in the adoption of digital and globalized terms, as well as the reshaping of traditional Indonesian vocabulary to reflect contemporary issues and technological advances. The study concludes that online mass media plays a critical role in shaping contemporary language and accelerating lexical change in Indonesian.
