Abstract

This community service (PKM) is focused on basic English language training for Al-Ikhlas Hawila Mosque Youth, Namo Bintang village, Pancur Batu sub-district. The background to this training was the low English language skills of the youth or teenagers at the Hawila mosque (Musholla). he objectives to be achieved in this PKM include: 1) helping to improve the English language skills of mosque youth or teenagers through conversation training activities, 2) providing an understanding of how to make basic English sentences, 3) providing opportunities and work experience for lecturers and students, 4) fostering cooperation with various related parties, especially the prayer room, as a collaboration to introduce the Akademi Pariwisata Nusantara Medan to the community. The method used to achieve this PKM goal is through lectures and training. Training-related materials are delivered through lectures and discussions. Then the training is carried out directly with direct practice.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of reference book writing for students of Budi Darma University Medan as an active learning method. Reference book writing is considered as a form of active learning that can improve students' material understanding, research skills, and academic writing. The research method used was a mixed approach, involving surveys, interviews, observations, and document analysis to collect data from students and lecturers involved. The results showed that reference book writing had a significant positive impact on students' material understanding, research skills, and academic writing ability. Most students reported improved understanding and skills after engaging in the project. However, there were some challenges, including difficulties in team coordination, high workload, and problems in editing the material. The discussion revealed that the reference book writing method was effective in deepening students' understanding of the material and improving their academic skills. Nonetheless, the challenges encountered point to the need for better project management strategies and consistent mentorship support. In conclusion, reference book writing as an active learning method proved effective in improving students' academic skills at Universitas Budi Darma Medan. To maximize the results, it is recommended that the university provide additional training, more intensive guidance, and effective project management guidelines. This research provides valuable insights into the implementation of active learning methods and provides recommendations for improvement in its application in higher education.

Abstract

This community service aims to collect data on victims of violence against children in the Districts of Mandau, Rupat and Rupat Urata, and to assist victims of violence against children. The results of this dedication are case data in three sub-districts in Bengkalis Regency, namely Mandau District, Rupat District and North Rupat District, so data on cases of gender-based violence against children can be obtained in 2022, namely: In Mandau District there is 1 person, namely: 16 year old female with sexual harassment and rape cases, 1 person in Rupat District, namely: 11 year old female with sexual harassment case, 3 cases of sexual harassment in Rupat Utara District, namely 13 year old female with obscenity and rape cases, 13 year old male 13 years old with physical and psychological violence cases, 13 year old female with physical and psychological violence cases. The assistance carried out includes: Case Data Collection, Case Chronology Assessment, Assisting Victims to make reports at the Mandau Police, Conducting Counseling with the LK3 Alhi Team (Counselors) Against Victims, Together with the LK3 Expert Team (Counselors) Conducting Counseling to their parents and Closest Relatives, Referring Clients (Victims) to the Al-Ghasyiyah Orphanage to receive Guidance and Education.

Abstract

This service was carried out for Langkah Muda, students of Mataram University which is located at Jalan Majapahit-Mataram NTB. This community service activity was carried out on Saturday, 24 August 2024. The theme for this community service was Sex Educations for students at Yayasan Assulamy. Thru this education, students will learn about their bodies, sexual health and relationships. It also promotes healthy relationships by discussing consent and respect. As the nation's generation and hope, students' knowledge about sex education needs to be improved in order to make child marriage number in NTB decrease. The service method is carried out in namely the lecture of Perkumpulan Keluarga Berencana Indonesia Kota Mataram. The results of this service activity are expected to prepares students to make informed and healthy choices about their sexuality.

Abstract

The application of solar-based water pump technology in Desa Besar II, Pantai Cermin District, Serdang Bedagai Regency, aims to overcome the irrigation challenges faced by local farmers. This village, which is an agricultural area with great agricultural potential, has experienced a decline in crop yields due to inadequate traditional irrigation systems, especially during the dry season. The application of solar water pump technology is expected to increase irrigation efficiency by utilizing solar energy as a clean and sustainable source of energy. The implementation of this activity includes the installation of a solar water pump system, intensive training for farmer groups on the operation and maintenance of the system, and monitoring and evaluation to assess the effectiveness of the technology. The evaluation results showed an increase in crop yields of 20-30% and improved crop quality, thanks to more consistent irrigation. Positive responses from farmers regarding the ease of use of the technology and the training provided also reflect a significant impact on their independence and welfare. Recommendations for further development include the expansion of this technology and increased technical support in the future.

Abstract

The making of tandok handicrafts in Pantai Cermin Kiri Village, Pantai Cermin Sub-district, Serdang Badagai Regency has a role in improving the community's economy. But on the other hand, there are problems in developing skills and diligence in making woven crafts. Many people in Pematang Panjang Village work as farmers or agricultural laborers. Similarly, the youth of Pantai Cermin Kiri Village have chosen to work outside the city. This research uses a qualitative method that emphasizes the descriptive qualitative type. The data collection technique used was focus group discussion. The results that have been achieved in the implementation of training on the development of woven handicrafts are (1) increasing the skills of craftsmen in making tandok products; (2) increasing the competitiveness of tandok  handicraft production; (3) increasing the economy of the Pantai Cermin Kiri Village community, Pantai Cermin Sub-district, Serdang Badagai Regency.

Abstract

This community service aims to improve the management of tofu industry liquid waste in Suka Makmur Village, Deli Tua District, Deli Serdang Regency, through training and counseling on the construction of a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) based on phytoremediation with water hyacinth. The tofu industry in this area produces liquid waste with a capacity of 2,000 L/day, which contains high organic pollution with BOD 50.5 mg/L, COD 130 mg/L, TSS 135 mg/L, and pH 5. Through the implementation of phytoremediation, after processing in an equalization tank, sedimentation, and phytoremediation, the quality of the waste increased significantly with BOD decreasing to 20.5 mg/L, COD to 39.5 mg/L, TSS to 22.5 mg/L, and pH to 6. These results indicate that the quality of the effluent has met the quality standards according to Permen LHK No. 68 of 2016. This activity not only helps overcome waste pollution but also provides practical training for UMKM actors in the area.

Abstract

The Student Creativity Program (PKM) aims to increase the income of corn farmers in Pematang Kasih Village, Pantai Cermin District, through the introduction and application of corn threshing tools. The background of this activity is the low productivity of corn farmers caused by the threshing process which is still done manually, so it takes a lot of time and energy. Through this activity, socialization, training, and distribution of corn threshing tools to local farmers are carried out. The methods used in this activity include designing and making machines, theory and lectures, and training in using the tools. For a corn harvest of 1 hectare, if the corn cobs from the corn harvest are sold to collectors by corn farmers in the amount of 1 ton with the price provision from the collector of Rp. 3,100 / kg, then the funds obtained are Rp. 3,100,000. With the acquisition of Rp. 3,100,000, corn farmers have made a profit including the cost of jetting the land, buying seeds and fertilizers, spraying pests. The use of corn threshing tools will certainly make corn farmers experience even greater profits after drying the corn that is ready to be sold for Rp. 6,500/kg to each animal feed store with the consequence of having land for drying. The results of the activity show that the use of corn shellers can increase the efficiency of the shelling process by up to 70% and significantly increase farmers' income ≥75% including operational costs. In addition, this activity also improves farmers' skills in utilizing modern agricultural technology. Thus, this PKM activity is expected to be a model for empowering rural communities through technology, which not only improves farmers' welfare but also contributes to local economic development.

Abstract

The development of digital technology today has transformed the way its users carry out activities, making the involvement of Information Technology highly essential in supporting daily life. Currently, the use of Information Technology has become commonplace and highly beneficial in various fields of human life. Unfortunately, many school students today only use electronic devices for entertainment, without utilizing them for learning and enhancing their knowledge. MTsN 4 Tanah Laut, as one of the educational institutions under the Ministry of Religious Affairs, has faced significant changes due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Although the pandemic has now ended, knowledge and skills in using Information Technology remain important, especially with the adoption of computers or laptops in the school learning process. Therefore, Information Technology introduction training is crucial for MTsN 4 Tanah Laut students to improve their understanding and skills in utilizing Information Technology. The purpose of this community service is to help students develop technological skills, enhance students’ understanding of digital literacy, improve learning efficiency, encourage creativity and innovation, prepare students for the workforce, promote positive use of technology, and foster research and innovation in the field of education. This community service is conducted through lectures and discussions on the introduction of information technology. The results of the research show an increase in participants' understanding of information technology.

Abstract

Physical inspections of construction are the result of follow-up activities from document analysis conducted by the relevant parties, where weaknesses in the reporting of audit results or physical inspections of construction are identified. The physical inspection of construction also seeks significant issues due to differences in interpretation regarding the calculation of work volume during the tender process and the evaluation of work progress. Community Service Activities (PKM) are one of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, alongside education, teaching, and research. Through this activity, it is hoped that the target community can obtain useful information and then apply and further develop the information provided by the speakers. The implementation method is carried out in two ways: desk audits and direct field inspections. Preliminary surveys/desk audits are conducted on the packages being examined, in accordance with the Work Order, aimed at detecting potential early deviations in the implementation of the packages to be examined. The results of the community service indicate the need for learning development activities through collaborative or community service initiatives aimed at providing assistance in line with the area of expertise. The results of this service also provide recommendations and analyses from experts that are useful for maintaining orderly public financial administration in its usage, thereby allowing for the anticipation of irresponsible parties. The assistance in community service activities also imparts specific knowledge to students regarding the direct application of scientific knowledge. The objective of the construction inspection is to ensure the orderly execution and results of construction work, covering physical aspects including volume and quantity of construction, planning, procurement, management of implementation, and contract control in building construction projects. Therefore, the implementation of PKM provides a supportive solution in the physical inspection of items related to building construction.
