Abstract

The Community Service Program activities carried out in Wates Village focused on empowering Women Farmers Groups (KWT) in the production of organic fertilizers as a solution to improve the welfare of farmers and support sustainable agriculture. The program involved training in the production of organic fertilizers using local materials, such as livestock manure and plant residues, which are easily found around the village. This training has successfully improved the skills of KWT members in producing organic fertilizers using efficient techniques. The use of organic fertilizers has shown a significant improvement in soil quality, plant resistance to pests and diseases, and agricultural productivity. In addition, this activity also helps reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers, which contributes to reducing production costs and negative environmental impacts. Thus, this program contributes to the achievement of more environmentally friendly and sustainable agriculture, and improves the economic welfare of KWT members in Wates Village.

Abstract

The mismanagement of waste poses serious environmental and public health issues in Indonesia, exacerbated by the increasing volume of waste due to population growth. To address this problem, this research develops a mobile application based on Flutter, utilizing YOLOv8 object detection technology to classify organic and inorganic waste. The application aims to simplify household waste sorting, raise public awareness, and support better and more sustainable waste management. The research methodology involves using a dataset of waste images trained with the YOLOv8 algorithm via google colab. The dataset is divided into training (70%), testing (20%), and validation (10%) portions. The model training process is conducted over 25 and 50 epochs, showing improved accuracy with more epochs. At the 50th epoch, the model achieved a precision of 0.81 and a recall of 0.61, demonstrating good performance in detecting and classifying waste. The implementation of this application is expected to facilitate waste sorting, reduce environmental pollution, and improve public health. Recommendations for further development include enhancing detection accuracy, expanding the range of detectable waste types, and optimizing application performance to ensure a better user experience.

Abstract

Traditional games offer valuable potential to support English vocabulary learning in ways that are interactive, culturally relevant, and enjoyable. This community service initiative aimed to introduce and model the use of local games—specifically Snakes and Ladders and Vocabulary Domino—as tools to enrich English language learning among students. The program targeted English teachers and pre-service teachers in Ambon, with 40 participants attending a two-hour workshop. The methods combined short lectures with hands-on practice, allowing participants to experience the adapted games directly. The content of the games focused on daily activity vocabulary and was presented in both English and Indonesian. A post-workshop questionnaire indicated that participants found the approach engaging, practical, and applicable to their teaching contexts. Many expressed interests in developing similar games based on local wisdom. These findings support the idea that integrating game-based learning with local content can promote contextualized teaching, enhance learner motivation, and preserve cultural identity in the classroom.

Abstract

The aim of this community service project is to investigate the implementation of the "Talk Dice Game" to improve the students' vocabulary skill in sentence construction in the fifth grade students of SD Kristen 1 Dobo which amounted to 28 students (Class VA). Although animals and body parts were previously introduced in English, students’ lexical knowledge was extended to four new categories: hobbies, food, family and jobs. Students played a game in which they rolled three dices to get a topic, a sentence starter, and the style of speaking; and then they each had to read the sentence they created in the style indicated by the third dice. The game promoted the technique of thinking on-the-spot, and also, created some rather surprising sentences. The findings were that not only did the game serve to promote vocabulary retention, it also enabled students to experiment with sentence-construction even with minimal training in grammar. The game supports the value of gamified, scaffolded language learning methods to early English instruction in an Indonesian primary school.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the blue economy in supporting the sustainability of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in coastal areas. Referring to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) indicators, this study explores the role of the blue economy in improving social welfare, economic growth, and environmental conservation. This study uses a qualitative method with data collection through in-depth interviews with MSME actors in coastal areas. The data is processed using Nvivo.  The analysis shows that the implementation of the blue economy supports various aspects of the SDGs, such as poverty alleviation, job creation, environmental conservation, and improving food security. Business actors around coastal areas are well aware that the sustainability of their business depends on coastal natural conditions so that awareness to preserve the environment is very high. However, challenges related to capital, technology access, and policy support remain major obstacles. Recommendations include strengthening strategic partnerships, training in environmentally friendly technologies, and developing sustainable business models. The results of the study also show the need for closer collaboration between local governments and universities in providing coaching and mentoring. The results of this study provide important insights for policy making and development of blue economy-based MSMEs to support the sustainability of coastal areas.

Abstract

This study analyzes the influence of knowledge, motivation, and skills of health workers on the reporting of patient safety incidents at the West Kotawaringin Regency Health Center. This study uses an observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The research sample consisted of 116 health workers who were randomly selected in six health centers in West Kotawaringin Regency. The independent variables in this study were knowledge, motivation, and skills, while the dependent variable was patient safety incident reporting. Data were collected using questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability, then analyzed using binary logistic regression. The results showed that knowledge (p=0.001), motivation (p=0.002), and skills (p=0.000) significantly affected patient safety incident reporting. Simultaneously, these three variables contributed 56% to patient safety incident reporting. Good knowledge increases understanding of the importance of reporting, high motivation encourages reporting consistency, and adequate skills ensure reporting is done correctly and efficiently. The conclusion of this study confirms the importance of improving the knowledge, motivation, and skills of health workers in supporting patient safety incident reporting systems. As a recommendation, Puskesmas are advised to organize continuous training that includes aspects of knowledge, motivation, and skills, as well as providing incentives to increase the motivation of health workers. The implementation of this strategy is expected to improve the quality of incident reporting and improve patient safety.

Abstract

This community service program investigated the application snowball throwing as an instrument to augment English vocabulary acquisition among fifth-grade learners at SD Kristen 1 Dobo, situated in the Aru Islands. Teaching of English has some challenges, especially in primary school. The students do not speak English as their mother language; therefore, it is quite difficult for them to acquire English fluently particularly in rural areas. The program encompassed 29 participants and extended over three sessions, during which students engaged in cooperative gameplay that integrated written vocabulary, physical activity, and verbal expression. This approach facilitated students' comprehension and retention of vocabulary, provided them with lists of words, and instructed them on the accurate pronunciation of these terms through the use of engaging visuals and thematic content, while also modifying the classroom environment to enhance the learning process. The findings revealed a notable enhancement in vocabulary acquisition, heightened student motivation, and favorable teacher feedback. These results underscore the efficacy of embodied, game-based learning in fostering language development within an Indonesian primary educational context.
