Abstract

The Sangihe Islands Regency is an outermost Indonesian archipelago with a significant number of adolescents and faces serious challenges related to adolescent mental health. One prominent case was a suicide attempt by a student at SMK Negeri 3 Tahuna due to depression, reflecting the importance of psychosocial interventions in the school environment. The "GAMBLANG" Community Service Program (PMUP) was implemented as a promotional and preventive effort to increase students' knowledge and awareness of mental health. Activities included counseling, pre-post tests, and early detection of mental health using the LiveWell by Zurich application. The analysis showed a significant increase in student knowledge (p < 0.05) after the counseling, and 1 in 12 students showed signs of a real mental disorder. This program was also followed by the provision of a first aid kit to support the establishment of a school health center (UKS). The GAMBLANG program is expected to become an effective school-based intervention model in increasing the mental resilience of adolescents in border areas.

Abstract

Children’s school readiness is a critical factor in determining their future academic and social success. The transition from Early Childhood Education (ECE) to primary school often presents a significant challenge for young learners. At this stage, the role of parents and ECE institutions becomes crucial in ensuring children are adequately prepared to navigate this shift. Failure to achieve a smooth transition can result in anxiety, discomfort, and difficulties adapting to the new school environment. Therefore, special attention must be given to support children’s readiness for entering the next level of education. Purpose of the Study: The primary objective of strengthening the involvement of parents and ECE units in preparing children for school is to foster a positive and low-stress transition from early education to primary education. Methods: This initiative was carried out on September 12, 2024, using a combination of interactive dialogue, lectures, group discussions, and Q&A sessions. Results: Through awareness-building efforts directed at parents and ECE educators, children’s readiness for school can be enhanced by stimulating essential social, emotional, and academic competencies required in a primary school setting. (5) Conclusions: By conducting outreach to parents and teachers at Al Hidayah Kindergarten Sanankulon, this program aimed to facilitate a joyful and confident transition to primary school. As a result, children are expected to enter elementary school with a stronger sense of self-confidence and enthusiasm for learning.

Abstract

The advancement of information technology has had a significant impact on public services, including in the area of regional taxation. One of the innovations introduced by the Government of Magelang Regency is SIPBB Trengginas, a web-based application designed to facilitate the management of Land and Building Tax (PBB) data, expedite the data updating process, and enhance transparency at the village level. This community service activity was carried out through the thematic Community Service Program (KKN) in Trenten Village, aimed at improving the capacity of village officials in using SIPBB Trengginas, particularly in the features of rights transfer mutation and the addition of new objects. The method employed was hands-on practice, starting with basic training at the BPPKAD of Magelang Regency, followed by intensive assistance to village officials. The results of this activity indicate that the assistance was effective, as village officials were able to operate the mutation and new object addition features independently, allowing for faster and more accurate updates of PBB data. However, several challenges were encountered, such as a lack of understanding of the overall system workflow and varying levels of digital literacy among village officials. As a sustainability measure, the KKN team has developed and submitted a user guide module for SIPBB Trengginas to support self-learning and long-term utilization of the application.

Abstract

The community service program at MI Ihsaniyah, Jambi City, aimed to strengthen the development of students’ religious character through collaborative mentoring between teachers and parents, based on effective communication. The background of this initiative was the low intensity of school–family communication and the lack of alignment in character education between home and school. The Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach was employed, involving teachers, parents, lecturers, and students in the planning, implementation, and evaluation processes. The activities included monthly communication forums, training on effective communication strategies for parents, and ongoing mentoring. As a result, there was an improvement in the quality of two-way communication, alignment of the values instilled, and consistency in students’ religious behavior both at school and at home. Parents became more confident, empathetic, and actively involved in the character-building process. The communication forum served as a sustainable collaboration platform, fostering a synergistic educational ecosystem and becoming a replicable model for religious character development in other schools.

Abstract

This community service program addresses the critical role of food security in national development, acknowledging that agricultural productivity is often challenged by pests and diseases. While chemical pesticides are commonly used for pest control, their long-term application leads to negative environmental impacts, including increased pest resistance and harmful residues on food products. Therefore, there is a clear need for environmentally friendly, easy-to-use, and safe alternative pest control methods for household scale application. This initiative focuses on the potential of papaya leaf extract (Carica papaya L.) as a natural pesticide due to its bioactive compounds like papain, alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, and tannins, which possess insecticidal and antimicrobial properties. The program employed a participatory educational approach in Dukuhmencek Village, involving community members, particularly active women farmers. Activities included socialization on the dangers of chemical pesticides and the benefits of natural alternatives, demonstrations of simple papaya leaf extract preparation, distribution of the natural pesticide, and guidance on its application in home gardens. Primary data was collected through interviews and observations to understand community perceptions, knowledge, and needs regarding eco-friendly pest control. The results showed that the application of papaya leaf extract effectively controlled pests like caterpillars and aphids, leading to healthier plants and reduced leaf damage. This successful implementation fostered community confidence in natural pesticides as a reliable, long-term solution, promoting environmental sustainability and reducing reliance on synthetic chemicals. The program not only enhanced technical skills but also contributed to community self-reliance and strengthened food security.

Abstract

Library management assistance at SDI Malafai aims to increase the role of libraries as a source of student learning. This activity began with observations and interviews to identify problems, such as limited space, lack of book collections, and lack of literacy programs. Assistance is carried out in four stages, namely planning, preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The results show that there is an improvement in library governance, including room arrangement, book procurement, and SOP arrangements. Obstacles such as the lack of special staff and inadequate facilities remain challenges, but it is recommended that there is training, appointment of officers, and cooperation with external parties to improve the quality of the library in the future.

Abstract

Plastic waste is a significant environmental issue, particularly due to its slow decomposition and incresing accumulation. One solution to mitigate plastic waste is the Ecobrick method., where non-organic plastic is compacted into plastic bottles to create durable building materials. This study focuses on the socialization and assistance program for plastic waste recycling using Ecobrick method at SDN Kawungsari, Bandung Regency. The program aims to raise awareness among students and the community about the importance of waste separation and the potential of Ecobricks, along with follow-up assistance to ensure continuous practice. Surveys and observations were conducted before and after the program to measure changes in knowledge, attitudes, and participation levels regarding plastic waste recycling. The result showed a significant increase in awareness and active involvement from students and teachers in the creation of Ecobrick. This initiative demonstrates the potential of educational interventions to foster sustainable waste management practices in local communities.

Abstract

This community service activity was carried out to improve the knowledge and skills of fishermen in Ketaping Beach, Padang Pariaman Regency, in maintaining and repairing boat engines. The background of this activity is the low awareness of fishermen of safety at sea and the frequent breakdown of boat engines during operation. The methods used are in the form of socialization and training consisting of lectures, discussions, and the practice of disassembling boat engine components. The results of the activity showed that there was an increase in fishermen's understanding of work safety and boat engine maintenance techniques. The fishermen also gave a very positive response and hoped that similar activities could continue in the future. This activity is expected to be able to reduce the risk of engine damage at sea, increase the efficiency of seagoing activities, and encourage the improvement of the welfare of fishermen in Ketaping.
