Abstract

Background: The Early Warning Score (EWS) is a clinical monitoring system based on vital signs, designed to support early detection of patient deterioration. However, its implementation in hospitals is often hindered by limited knowledge and skills among healthcare professionals. Objective: To evaluate the impact of EWS training on improving doctors' and nurses' knowledge regarding the application of the system at Laras Hospital, PT. Prima Medika Nusantara. Methods: A quasi-experimental pre-post study without a control group was conducted involving 155 participants. The EWS training, delivered through lectures and simulations, was followed by pre- and post-intervention knowledge assessments using a structured questionnaire. Statistical analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test. Results: The findings demonstrated a significant improvement in knowledge after training (p = 0.00), indicating the effectiveness of the intervention in enhancing clinical readiness among medical staff. Conclusion: EWS training plays a vital role in strengthening the clinical competencies of doctors and nurses. Its routine implementation can serve as a practical strategy to enhance early detection systems and improve patient safety and care quality in hospital settings.

Abstract

Adolescent girls are future mothers who will give birth to the next generation of the nation. Currently, the government continues to promote programs aimed at reducing stunting rates to help create a "golden generation" by 2045, with adolescents being one of the primary targets. This is evident in the establishment of adolescent posyandu (integrated health service posts) as an effort to accelerate the reduction of stunting rates and to increase awareness of adolescent health. Through stunting prevention education and hemoglobin screening activities, the community service team from the Department of Medical Laboratory Technology (TLM), Poltekkes Kemenkes Aceh—consisting of lecturers and students—hopes that female adolescents at Dayah Insan Qurani will gain a better understanding of healthy lifestyles and be able to maintain their health, especially in preventing anemia caused by low hemoglobin levels. The female students and the management of Dayah Insan Qurani responded positively and showed great enthusiasm for this program. The results obtained after the activity, measured through pre-test and post-test assessments, showed an increase in knowledge about stunting prevention among adolescent girls from 58% to 94%. Hemoglobin screening results also indicated that 86% of participants had normal hemoglobin levels, with an average of 14 g/dL, while 14% had below-normal levels, averaging 10.6 g/dL, indicating the presence of anemia. The head of the madrasah at Dayah Insan Qurani, through the person in charge of the health clinic, expressed hope that similar activities will continue so that the adolescent girls at the dayah can maintain their health.

Abstract

During pregnancy, physical and psychological changes occur, causing discomfort for the mother, which can then impact the well-being of the fetus. Therefore, management efforts are needed to minimize the impacts that occur. Meditation and positive affirmations can be an alternative, one of the non-pharmacological therapies claimed to have a positive effect on the physical and psychological health of the mother and are beneficial for the health of the fetus, such as reducing excessive anxiety and pain. The implementation of meditation and positive affirmations in community service aims to provide information and empower mothers during pregnancy to improve health. This activity is carried out in three stages. The first stage is a pre-test, the second stage is the delivery of material and practice of meditation and positive affirmations, and the third stage is a post-test. The results show a difference in the level of knowledge and complaints with a p-value of 0,000 for each variable. There is a difference in the level of anxiety of the target group compared between the pre-test and post-test. With a p-value of 0,001. It can be concluded that the application of meditation and positive affirmations is effective in increasing knowledge, reducing complaints, and reducing the level of anxiety of pregnant women.

Abstract

Oral health issues remain a significant challenge for children with special needs, particularly at the Special Needs School for Special Needs (SLB) in Aceh Province, located in Gampong Lamreung, Aceh Besar Regency. Initial observations indicate that 70% of children suffer from dental caries, with an average Oral Hygiene Score (OHIS) of 2.8, well above the national standard of <1.2. This condition is exacerbated by children's limited ability to maintain dental hygiene independently. The decreased quality of life of children due to chewing difficulties, pain, and lack of sleep has become an urgent need for this community service initiative. This activity aims to improve the dental health of children with disabilities through home-based dental care. The method used is a descriptive quantitative approach with an educational approach for parents, particularly mothers, through counseling, demonstrations of toothbrushing techniques, and three home visits over 14 days. The evaluation was conducted using a questionnaire through pre-test, post-test I, and post-test II on 20 pairs of mothers and children. The intervention results showed an improvement in maternal behavior, from 65% in the adequate category (pre-test) to 90% in the good category (post-test II). The children's dental hygiene status also improved significantly, from 100% in the poor category (pre-test) to 80% in the good category (post-test II). In conclusion, the home care approach has proven effective in improving maternal roles and improving the dental hygiene status of children with disabilities. It is recommended that similar programs be replicated in other special needs schools with ongoing involvement of schools and healthcare professionals.

Abstract

Farmers’ skills in maintaining water pumps remain limited, although these skills are essential for sustaining agricultural production. This study is presented as a pilot study aimed at assessing the effectiveness of participatory training in improving the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of water pump mechanics. The study involved nine mechanics under the guidance of UPTD ALSINTAN Dinas Pertanian Kabupaten Bandung, each representing one of nine affiliated areas. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test instruments with 20 items on a five-point Likert scale, analyzed descriptively without inferential statistics. The initial findings indicated an increase in the overall mean score from 3.55 to 4.78, with the largest improvements observed in skills (+46.27%) and knowledge (+39,83%). These results suggest improvements in competence, although they remain exploratory. The main limitations of this study are the small sample size and reliance on self-reported measures. Further studies with larger samples and stronger designs are recommended.

Abstract

Yoboi Village, Sentani, Papua, has the potential for local food resources, including sago caterpillars and tilapia. These commodities are important sources of animal protein and play a strategic role in supporting food security among Papuan communities; however, their utilization has been limited to household consumption, often using simple techniques without adherence to hygiene standards, packaging, or labeling. This community service program aimed to improve community capacity in hygienic processing, vacuum packaging, labeling, and marketing of smoked sago caterpillars and tilapia products. The method applied was a community-based participatory action research approach, covering needs assessment, module development, structured training, hands-on practice, and rapid reflection. A total of 60 participants were involved, representing fishermen, sago caterpillar collectors, homemakers, and youth. Evaluation was conducted through observation, station checklists, and pre- and post–knowledge tests. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge, with the proportion of participants having high knowledge rising from 11,6% to 71,7% after the training (p = 0,023). Sample products of smoked sago caterpillars and smoked tilapia were successfully produced with vacuum packaging and minimal labeling, showing more consistent quality and longer shelf life. Participants also agreed to establish a community group/MSME and initiate early marketing strategies, both online and offline. This program, as a participatory training, strengthened both the community’s technical skills and institutional readiness.

Abstract

The target community of posyandu is in accordance with the target of specific nutrition interventions for handling stunting. Posyandu is a place for pregnant, lactating mothers, infants and toddlers to get services that include maternal and child health in the form of growth and development monitoring, provision of vitamin A capsules, immunization, prevention and control of diarrhea, nutritional counseling according to their problems and family planning. Posyandu cadres are the main drivers of all activities carried out in the posyandu. One of the most basic posyandu problems is the low level of knowledge of cadres both from an academic and technical perspective, therefore to be able to provide optimal services at Posyandu, it is necessary to adjust the knowledge and skills of cadres, so that they are able to carry out Posyandu activities according to the norms, standards, procedures and criteria for developing Posyandu. In preventing stunting, the thing that must be considered is the balanced nutrition of pregnant women and nursing mothers. The purpose of this community service in general is to empower cadres to increase knowledge and skills in compiling and processing menus for pregnant women and nursing mothers as an effort to prevent stunting. The benefits of this activity are to increase the knowledge and skills of cadres in processing a balanced menu for pregnant women and nursing mothers so that cadres can provide this nutrition education widely, sustainably, and independently.Evaluation results showed a significant improvement in cadres' knowledge and skills, as evidenced by the comparison of pre-test and post-test results. A total of 85% of cadres showed a better understanding of nutrition and were able to develop a balanced menu.

Abstract

Peuniti Village is one of 10 villages in Baiturrahman District, Banda Aceh City, with diverse socio-cultural characteristics and a high prevalence of childhood dental caries. The initial survey showed that 85% of families experienced caries and children's dental hygiene was generally poor (PHP-M score = 38), far from government standards (<15). The purpose of this activity was to improve mothers' knowledge, attitudes, practices, and children's dental hygiene through the implementation of a home visit model of family dental nursing care. The method used was descriptive, targeting 60 children and their mothers as respondents. The intervention was conducted through three home visits over 21 days, with pre-test, post-test I, and post-test II evaluations. The results showed a significant increase in all indicators. Mothers' knowledge increased from sufficient to good (76,7%), mothers' attitudes from poor to good (80%), mothers' actions in assisting with tooth brushing from sufficient to good (83%), and children's dental hygiene status (PHP-M) from poor/very poor to good (93,3%) and very good (6,7%). This family-based educational approach has proven effective through interactive methods, demonstrations, and visual reinforcement. This activity also demonstrates the importance of mothers' roles as agents of change in children's dental care at home. In conclusion, the home visit model has proven effective in fostering healthy family behaviors independently. It is recommended for replication in other regions with cross-sectoral support to reduce caries rates preventively and sustainably
