Abstract

Rice bran (Oryza sativa) is a layer of bran that is separated from the rice during removal during milling. In some literature, it is stated that rice bran has ingredients such as B complex vitamins, B15, vitamin E, protein, minerals, fat, fiber, calcium, essential amino acids and phenolic acids. This study aims to determine the formulation for gel peel-off masks with the active ingredient of rice bran acetone extract combined with grapefruit peel essential oil with concentrations of 5, 10, 15% (F1 without extract and F2, F3 and F4, each extract concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 15 %). Physical evaluation of peel-off gel mask preparations was carried out by organoleptic test, pH test, homogeneity test, drying time test, spreadability test, adhesion test; followed by a hedonic (favorite) test. The results of the evaluation of physical properties show that the formulas F1, F2, F3 and F4 have good physical properties and appearance. The hedonic test conducted showed that the panelists liked the peel-off gel mask preparation with the F2 formula the most. Based on this, it can be concluded that, the best formula is F2 ( 5% extract).

Abstract

One of the cardiovascular diseases is commonly known as hypertension, which is high blood pressure. It is recognized as a cause of death and is often referred to as the "silent killer." This is because hypertension frequently occurs without symptoms and is only detected after it has caused serious damage to the body. Many hypertension sufferers utilize traditional therapies, one of which is the use of celery plants (Apium graveolens L.). Utilization of celery planted could have been made into a syrup that used natural sweetener content, namely natural sweetener stevia left (Stevia rebaudiana). This research aims to determine the effect of storage time on the results of the stability test of celery leaf syrup preparations with stevia leaf sweetener using the cycled tested method which carried out as many as 6 cycles with temperatures of 4oC and 40oC each for 24 hours by testing parameters included organoleptic, pH, viscosity, clarity and homogeneity. This type of research uses experimental research. The results of the stability of celery leaf infusion syrup preparation (Apium graviolens L.) obtained by the organoleptic test were liquid, had a distinctive celery smell and were yellowish green in color. Celery syrup preparation is homogeneous and cleared during storage, the pH test stability results had an average value of 5.27 and a viscosity of 3.8 cP. The results of the stability tests for organoleptic properties, homogeneity, clarity, pH, and viscosity indicate that no significant differences were found between the cycles, meaning the syrup remains stable during storage

Abstract

Soap is a self-care product that plays an important role in maintaining body hygiene. The development of the cosmetic industry encourages innovation in soap formulations, one of which uses natural ingredients such as essential oils. Citronella oil is an agribusiness sector commodity with a good market share and high competitiveness. This study aims to develop a solid soap formulation containing Cymbopogon Nardus L. essential oil, which is known to have antimicrobial and antioxidant properties. Soap was made using a mixture of Virgin Coconut Oil and palm oil, NaOH with the addition of Cymbopogon Nardus L. essential oil and distilled water with varying concentrations. The basic physical and chemical properties of soap, such as organoleptic, pH and foam stability were evaluated with good soap parameters based on SNI 3532:1994. Based on the test results on the four formulas with the three parameters carried out, it can be concluded that the addition of citronella essential oil to the tested formulas strengthens the organoleptic characteristics of good solid soap. All formulas have pH values in the range that are slightly less safe for the skin (pH 10-13) as bath soap with SNI criteria (pH 9-11) and foam stability that tends to decrease during the 28 days of testing and outside the range of solid soap foam stability of 60-70% required by SNI 3532: 1994.

Abstract

Dry skin is a problem that bothers many people. One of the causes of dry skin is skin dehydration, which can be overcome by using moisturizing cosmetics. Vaseline is a moisturizer commonly used by the public because it does not cause allergies and has good moisturizing capabilities. However, it is derived from non-renewable petroleum, necessitating alternatives. Animal fats can be used as cosmetic moisturizers and are considered safer than chemical substances like zinc oxide. According to BPOM, cosmetic products must pass safety tests such as microbial contamination, heavy metal contamination, and chemical contamination tests. Beef fat contains water and fatty acids that can create a suitable medium for microbial growth. However, temperature and water content affect microbial growth, necessitating further research on the microbiological quality of beef fat using low temperature and double boiling methods. This study aims to determine the microbiological quality of beef fat moisturizer bases using low temperature and double boiling methods through Total Plate Count (TPC) testing. This research is a pre-experimental study with a one-shot case study design. The results show that the TPC values of beef fat using low temperature and double boiling methods are each 1 x 10^4 CFU/g. This indicates that the TPC values of beef fat using low temperature and double boiling methods do not meet BPOM criteria, which is < 500 CFU/g. Keywords: Moisturizer; Beef Tallow; Low Temperature; Double Boiling; Total Plate Count.
