Abstract

Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem that affects physical growth, cognitive development, and the productivity of future generations. Prevention efforts need to be carried out upstream, including among adolescents who will become future parents. This community service program aimed to empower adolescents in preventing stunting risk factors through knowledge enhancement, nutrition education, and health screening. The program was implemented at Bali Dewata Health Vocational School in June 2025, involving five lecturers and two students from STIKES Wira Medika Bali. The activities included coordination with the school and primary health center, pretest, health education sessions, health screening (blood pressure measurement and medical history), distribution of educational booklets, and a posttest to evaluate knowledge improvement. A total of 61 students participated in the program. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge about stunting prevention, with the proportion of students in the “good” category rising from 50.8% to 88.5%. Health screening also revealed a small number of students with anemia, a condition that may contribute to future stunting in their offspring. This program highlights the crucial role of adolescents as agents of change in stunting prevention through healthy lifestyles, balanced nutrition, and peer education. With the active involvement of schools, health centers, and students, the program successfully improved adolescent awareness of stunting issues and produced outputs in the form of scientific publication and educational media. Continuous monitoring is planned to ensure program sustainability.

Abstract

Self-medication refers to an individual’s effort to treat their own health complaints based on symptoms they experience. This practice commonly involves purchasing over-the-counter drugs, using leftover prescribed medicines, or taking medications recommended by family members, friends, or the media without medical supervision. Such self-treatment carries the risk of irrational drug use; therefore, education is essential to enhance public literacy regarding the proper use of medicines. The Inayatullah Islamic Boarding School Alumni Family Community consists of former students and their families, most of whom are in the 25–35 age range and have recently started families. This community service program aims to improve participants’ knowledge and attitudes toward self-medication through a community-based educational approach. The activity was implemented through the Smart Community Movement for the Rational Use of Medicines (GeMa CerMat), conducted in the form of interactive lectures and discussions during a regular monthly gathering at one of the alumni’s residences in Dukuh Nandan, Sariharjo Village, Ngaglik District, Sleman Regency. Participants actively engaged in discussions about appropriate and rational self-medication practices. It is expected that this educational initiative will enhance the community’s understanding of responsible self-medication, enabling them to make wiser decisions in treating minor health problems and to prevent irrational drug use.

Abstract

Abstract

The community service activity focused on increasing faculty publications through alternative channels such as Letters to the Editor in reputable journals, as a solution to the slow peer-review process for full articles. This activity was carried out through technical guidance that integrated the use of artificial intelligence technology, namely ChatGPT as a content writing tool, and Typeset.io as a reference search and formatting tool. The activity was held on Friday, July 25, 2025, in Room GW 6 of the Permata Indonesia Polytechnic, involving 19 lecturers from four study programs (Hospital Administration, Midwifery, Pharmacy, and Medical Records and Health Information). The evaluation method used a pre-test and post-test consisting of 10 questions to measure the increase in knowledge. The test results showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge after the technical training, as evidenced by an increase in the average score from 55 to 88,42. The discussion showed that the use of AI and digital tools can facilitate lecturers to contribute quickly to scientific discourse through LtE, while fulfilling their obligation to publish reputable works. This activity was concluded to have successfully improved lecturers' understanding and skills in publishing scientific ideas efficiently.

Abstract

Healthcare services at Permata Bunda Hospital in Yogyakarta face challenges in handling patient complaints, which impact hospital satisfaction and image. Complaint handling techniques training was conducted to equip medical personnel and service staff with effective communication, empathy, analysis, and problem-solving skills to handle patient complaints professionally. The training, conducted on July 14, 2025, included communication materials, simulations, case studies, and role-plays, with evaluations using observation and short quizzes. The training results demonstrated a significant improvement in participant skills, with complaint response times reduced from 24 hours to less than 6 hours and patient satisfaction increasing from 65% to 92%. This training reinforced a culture of excellent service and continuously improved service quality. It is recommended that training be conducted regularly and that a complaint monitoring system be developed for effective follow-up. Strengthening the complaint handling team and supporting facilities also needs to be improved. Keywords: complaint handling; training; Interpersonal communication; patient satisfaction; healthcare

Abstract

This community service aims to increase the awareness of children aged 4-14 years in the Al-Qur'an Education Park (TPA) about waste sorting as a solution to environmental problems in Indonesia, where waste production reaches 68 million tons per year with suboptimal management. With the integration of Islamic values, this activity supports the formation of an environmentally friendly generation and contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) point 12. The implementation method uses an interactive approach at two landfill locations in Condongcatur, Sleman (Raoudlotul Jannah Mosque Landfill on September 8, 2025 and Gandok Mulia Mosque Landfill on September 13, 2025), including lectures, questions and answers, singing, games with prizes, and direct practice of sorting organic, inorganic, and B3 waste. The activity was attended by 57 participants with high participation (90% enthusiasm) and effective in forming environmentally friendly behavior. The discussion confirmed that this approach is more effective than the passive method, with the potential for replication to reduce plastic waste by up to 20-30%. The conclusion affirms the success of the activity as an educational model at the TPA, with suggestions for follow-up, age differentiation, and stakeholder collaboration.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are diseases that are not caused by bacterial infection and cannot be transmitted from one person to another. These diseases are chronic, develop slowly over a long period, and are often influenced by lifestyle, environmental, and genetic factors. Examples include heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Early detection of a disease is a crucial step in disease prevention and treatment. Early detection of a disease is a crucial step in disease prevention and treatment, or a testing procedure to identify potential health problems or disorders in an individual. Conducting screening tests for healthy individuals can be beneficial for early prevention and to determine the prognosis of a disease. Screening tests are also beneficial for the wider community if the identification leads to primary and secondary prevention, detecting disease risks and preventing further impacts of disease risks. Screening activities are provided selectively, aiming to detect disease risks using specific methods. The purpose of implementing screening activities is a primary preventive measure to determine the health condition of the community. This community service program aims to determine the health status of the elderly and the need for advanced health services.
